Welcome to the Ancient Greek Language thread!

Χαίρετε φίλοι ἐμοί! Τοῦτο τό νῆμα διαλέξεως ἐποίησα, ὅπως διαλεχθησόμεθα πρός ἀλλήλους περί τῆς αὐτῆς γλώττης. Ἔγωγε μέν τήν γλῶτταν οὔκ εὖ οἶδα, ἀσκῶ ἐμαυτὸν δέ, ὡς ἥν νομίζω ἐκ τῶν καλλίστων εἶναι. Οἱ τοῦ Δημοσθένους λόγοι καί αὐτοί τοῦ Θουκυδίδου τέρπουσι με καί παιδεύουσι. Λέγετε δή, τίς ὑμῶν τήν γλώτταν μανθάνει;

Feel free to comment on my grasp of the language, and point out any mistakes (I am certain I have made some).

You can use this thread to ask questions about the language or help with your homework (although I can't be fully relied upon

), and, of course, chat.
I will be moderating this thread, btw.

I am Greek, so I understand what you said, however there's "To Kafeneio" for the modern language

Ι looked up the paradigms you use at your school. I hope this helps:

τιμῶ, τιμήσω, ἐτίμησα, τετίμηκα
ποιῶ, ἐποίουν, ποιήσω, πεποίηκα
δηλῶ, ἐδήλουν, δηλώσω, δεδήλωκα

To really understand how these verbs work, have a look at the contractions:

Oh don't worry about the contractions, I've got a pretty nice summary about them in my workbook,

I think it is exactly like your's though

Liddell and Scott's Greek-English Lexicon is fantastic.

Ancient Greek is the precursor of Modern Greek. What I hope to see in this thread, is people that are studying it or that are just fond of it, talk about matters pertaining to the language of the ancients and also post in it.

If you teach me how to make accent marks on the PC, I'll try.

Right click on the language button on the right hand corner, click setting (should be the 5th option), click "Add", look for polytonic Greek in the keyoboard section under Greek, tick the box, click ok. When you're done doing this, ask me to show you the correct key combinations that add the accent marks.
