    Indeed, I was thinking the same thing - even the hairstyles seem accurate (though, for some reason, I always imagined them with more/bigger/flashier ribbons )!

    Indeed, especially since another group of his Elves are called the Nandori, which is the medieval Magyar name for the Danubian Bulgarians (more or less in the same region).

    Tolkien was a scholar and an expert on Germanic languages/cultures. The languages of Middle Earth were heavily influenced by this. He also drew heavily from Finnish culture (as well as the language) for Middle Earth cosmology. The language of the Rohirrim is essentially Anglo-Saxon.
