This might have a obvious answer, but how do I run SS via steam in windowed mode?
I tried searching for it, but couldn't find a clear solution.

Greetings team mates, creative minds and friends.
Firstly i congrulate your work on MTW II modding. You've done a great effort and job.
and let me explain my questions and suggestion to you.
Some of you may realize me and my work from Anatolian Principalities mod and 'my artwork' page in TWC.
When I play SShip mod in single campaing, i notice that, middle eastern shield and-banners are looking little bit strange.
So,
if the mod team approve, i would like to share my Turkish shields and banners textures with you.
Shield ornaments have been drew by me with the refference of Armies of the Middle Ages(Ian Heath), Osprey series and much more histroical sources that i have.
If you interest, please let me know.
With my best regards
I was watching a video from Legend of TotalWar and he seemed to be able to direct where the reinforcing allied army, which was under AI control but under his command, would set up once battle commenced. How is this done? Thanks.
It's not a question of where it grips it. It's a simple questions of weight ratios; a five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
CURRENTLY, the only ones that continue to improve are their submods ss6.4 , I recommend you play this magnificent improvement of ss.6.4----

Hey everyone, just a couple of general questions about SS6.4:
- Until when is the campaign designed to be "more or less" accurate in terms of unit composition etc.? I guess typical pike & shot is covered by SS6.4... so the mod would lose its historical accuracy sometime during the 17th century, so shortly before Empire: Total War?
- I heard that if you want gunpowder units to be introduced at a proper time, you should start the late campaign, as the early campaign will delay gunpowder somewhat?
- What is the typical AI progression throughout the campaign like? What I mean is: Let's say I play passively for about 150 years, what is the likely condition of the campaign map in 1370? (Assuming late game start) Only a few super powers left? More or less the same as at the start?
Currently looking ahead and collecting ideas for my next AAR and I'm interested in doing an AAR in the Pike&Shot era at some point.
Thanks for the info!
Cheers

Sounds like the modders don't check this forum much but hopefully there's someone floating around that knows the answer.
I'm wondering what are the requirements to build knightly order Chapter Houses now that they're no longer part of the guilds system. The outline indicates that only certain regions can build those houses - but what's needed other than owning one of those regions? Playing as France I own two regions, Toulouse and Clermont, both listed as Templar capable, but the Templar Chapter House isn't available in either. This is in the late campaign so I believe both would be available from the start of the game.
I assume I need to upgrade my city (Clermont) and castle (Toulouse) before the order houses become available, but I want to confirm if that's the case, and if so, to what level they need be upgraded. Tried a search for this information but couldn't find it.
How are my units improved when I join a crusade with them?
I just came back to SS after years and it seems I forgot a lot, so here are my questions:
1) Unit experience
- What does it change if my unit gets 1 experience level?
- When i have an experienced unit with losses, how do i get it back to full strength without losing the experience bonus?
2) How does diplomacy work?
- Sometimes (for example at start of game) i get tons of alliances, but later on, without having any war going on i don't get any.
- How do i get my Allies to help me actually fight a foe?
3) What are princesses for - are they really useless?
4) Is there any Video of some pro explaining the basics stuff? For example the pope often excommunicates me, while i just fight back an agressor, but when i am attack quite often nothing happens?!
[QUOTE=HansBertVogl;14803699]I just came back to SS after years and it seems I forgot a lot, so here are my questions:
1) Unit experience
- What does it change if my unit gets 1 experience level?
- When i have an experienced unit with losses, how do i get it back to full strength without losing the experience bonus?
Unit Experience:
There are three levels of experience chevrons: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Every time you progress up to the next level your unit gains an extra +1 attack.
It is worth repeating your unit gets the extra +1 when he moves up through the "colours", not going from, say, 1 chevron to 2.
The effect of this is that there is no difference in statistics between a 1 gold chevron unit and a 3 gold chevron unit (other than your own satisfaction).
Replenishing a Unit:
In order to retrain a unit you need to:
1) Move it into a settlement
2) The settlement has to be able train (create) that type of unit already. (i.e. you cannot retrain a Chivalric Knight recruitable from a Baron level Stable in a settlement with only a tier 1 stables).
3) Press the settlement button and the ordinarily greyed out "Retrain" button will now be available. Hit that and you will see all the units currently in the city eligible for retraining.
4) Replenishing a unit drains the recruitment pool. i.e. if you are retraining a unit of spears with only, say, 7 guys left and the replenished unit has, say 120 guys, It may take a while to become available if the recruitment pool is already fully exhausted.
There is another option and that is to "Merge" units. Merging units is available to you only with units of the same type. You can Merge two, say, depleted archer units to get a combined unit, (once merged you cannot separate again). You do this by clicking and dragging [or Shift/Cntrl + highlighting] and pressing the "M" key.
Merging will have an effect on experience. If you Merge 50 gold chevron guys with 50 no chevron guys the unit chevron experience icon will change to the Average, Say, 1 Silver Chevron. The individual sprites will actually still be the same (50 guys with gold [+3] and 50 guys with nothing [+0], But it will appear as though the experience rating has gone down but it hasn't. Interestingly, I think this effect is the same for armour upgrades, check out the variety of graphics on the sprites on the battle map.
Experience:
It is worth noting that if you retrain a unit with, say, gold chevrons, (i.e. +3 attack) the entirety of the replenished unit will be raised with the level of experience. So you go from having a unit of, say 3 knights that have been through hell and back to earn their gold chevrons. Stick them in a castle, retrain them and you get a whole unit of, say, 40 guys with the stats of gold chevrons. so it is well worth retraining.
Hope this helps
Princesses:
Princesses can act as diplomats and negotiate with other factions.
They can also approach unmarried generals from other factions and "Marry" them. This wins the general over to your faction giving you another valuable unit to play with. Needless to say, the general is usually in the other factions territory and so once they have been "won" move them out of that territory into your once quickly otherwise you relations with their native faction will suffer.
iirc (haven't played the game in years, even longer not submodded) only certain places get certain levels/ability. there basic, adv (?), and hq. You get just mounted knights at the first. Unmounted and mounted at the next ones. Also iirc you can build the 1st at level 3 castles and the next at lvl 4 and/or citadels.

Hey guys, any idea why sometimes factions get destroyed even though they had more than 1 settlement ? Norway just got destroyed out of nowhere and left behind them 5 rebels settlements, this doesn't make any sense to me.
All FM died.
Hey. I'm having a lot of problems with my Stainless Steel singleplayer campaigns. I usually play on H/H and with Lusted AI.
In my first campaign as Denmark, Norway starts out with a much better castle than yours which can produce better heavy inf. This was fine at first since I was stomping them in Scandinavia anyway. However, going to the HRE or Poland for any alliances almost always resulted in failure. No matter what they refused to ally with me. Even if the offer was considered very generous. So of course I get a full HRE stack and a half at my capital after a few turns preparing to attack. Then an excommunication, then suddenly Norway is able to defeat my army simply because they would not rout no matter how many losses they took in the battle. So thanks to that, I lost my main army, and my Arhus garrison is basically just spammed spear militia against HRE heavy inf and knights so I figured this wasn't going anywhere.
Another time this happened with the Novgorod faction. I try and try to form alliances, no one takes them. And I get ganged up on by both the Cumans who have two full deathstacks coming into my settlements and the Kievan Rus who manage to take a settlement only with their general and a few mercs because generals are OP as hell still and my militias despite outnumbering him significantly could not kill him. I had lost three settlements by this point and now Lithuania was going to attack me. Needless to say I quit at this point.
You get the picture. What exactly is happening here? Every game I try ends this way with full stacks of spammed AI armies invading en masse and I can't get anyone to ally with me. Am I doing something wrong? Do I just have to be hyper aggressive and take all their stuff before they take my stuff and start cheesing the game? I really would rather not. This seems to happen with every game I'm playing with this mod and I have to say it's significantly damaging my enjoyment of the mod. It's a great mod, but it's not great when it seems no matter what I do, doomstacks will spam at me unless I simply go to war with everyone.
I would like to know what the hell are Mongols doing that it makes my game crash almost everytime their turn is being processed. I have to restart SS 2,3,4 times before it goes through. Any solutions?
PS: this is not a bug report, just a question.
