Default RTD Development and Suggestions Thread

(I didn't find the old one, so here we are for a new beggining)

Dear RTDers, we have come to the end of another great RTD. But as we all know, many disagree with some rules. Also, someone might want to create a new one and is looking for the community's approval and ideas. We are all like a big family here.

Right now, we must find a GM for EWIX. Who is up for the task? (Cuz I'm sure not )

Okay the meta game I created with the countering move should be forbidden in any of the future

RTD. I think we can ALL agree that was BS from my part

Also I suggest a army system, but this time the army does not really function as the old one, this

one the army can be used every three/five turn and give you a automatic plus ones. This is

so that expanding is not so difficult and everyone can expand a little easier. Of course in PVP

it will act like the old rule army system, but against the rebels I suggest no role to role battle.

Also since summer is starting for me soon I might start a RTD called the old world. Going to

    use a "new" map

Rhinelander made a good point, it takes way too long before there are any real conflicts in the game. His suggestion was that everyone would start with bigger factions. Going forward with this I'd suggest that every player starts with 10-15 regions and the region count for winning goes up to 125 (this obviously depends on the game, this suggestion is for EW). The prestige needed for winning should be adjusted too. Additionally at least half of the regions should be connected to the capital via land (with no rebel regions in-between) so that a faction can't have a foothold everywhere from the start.

By the way, why are we not using the group?

Because Rogue created that one and we can't invite the "new" people

But then make it easier to conquer regions and let's not all place our factions in Europe.

Movable armies are not the right solution for a game like this.

Yeah, moving armies is just another dice to roll. What about automatically conquering rebels? Or just having a bigger success rate? Like... 3 should be a success too.

That's why I said NEW army rule system. I am working on the

rules so it wouldn't act like the army in LOTR RTD.

One of the function of the NEW army system is going to serve is that

if you attack a rebel region/player region without a

army in it, you get plus one attacking with it and automatically take the region if you get 4-8 roll

(much like using a spy, expect you get a sure rate of getting a plus one so using this with a spy

will have benefits), though if you attack a player region with a army with it you just get to automatically attack

it and commence into a land battle roll, if you win the land battle you just take the region, seems fair enough

Moving armies (or fleets) shouldn't take dice rolls. It should just take time, like 24 hours per region. Double the time if you're trying to move across mountains or rivers. Armies and fleets should be recruited based on a really simple resource system. Dice rolls should only be used to resolve combat imo.

I have a game idea called Rise and Fall of Empires that I might launch in June if anyone's interested. There's also my Interstellar Civilizations game I could perform necromancy on.

    Cheers! Cats

    Historical map background

What do you guys think of having a historical map of eurasia in 1500 (because it is easier to find maps then than it is for 1470. Like this

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This is just an idea, the real map would be the one we've been using, just coloured. Each state would be a light grey and most of them would be the same, as we'd only have to know where the borders between them are, so it's fine if France and Poland-Lithuania have the same grey, but for the Ottomans and Mamluks it would not. Each grey tone would be very similar to each other to preserve as neutral a tone as possible, and for it to not look too busy. No labels either and preferably the Holy Roman Empire should be in one colour.

If so, then the borders will have to be painted onto our map. As it's from Victoria 2 (if I recall), it'll look a bit off, but that's worth it for consistency.

This would add another fresh spin on the 'background story' we're not fighting at giant mess of rebels, but rising nations taking on established states. It could help with role-play, and of course, no ones obligated to use the background nations for deciding their moves.

    Armies
Just putting my opinion here. How will they be represented on the map? Small regions are a pain for drawing icons and finding a colour for them will be tricky with factions, icons and my suggestions above.

Well how about the players choose a faction and there army color? Have it

so that the army color and faction colors are separate (so a person who

choose red should have their color light red or something)

    @Lord of Cats...
Time simply takes away the turn based thingy. We are not making alliance games.

    Edit: I am working on a super-secret project. #gethyped

I'm going to start my War of the Ring Map Game in a few weeks. Besides battles between armies, this is not a roll-to-dodge game. Movement will be in real time and there is a super simple economy system. I hope you are willing to play something new and different. Cheers! Cats

    Faction list:
    Gondor -- Kirila the Kitten
    Mordor
    Eriador
    Isengard

    Rohan
    Harad
    Erebor
    Gundabad
    Lothlorien
    Misty Mountains
    Lindon
    Rhun
    Dale

Bold = must be claimed before the game can start.

If there are more players than factions, I'll create more factions.
