Thread: Your favorite army

I don't mean what's your favorite faction, I mean an army you built during a campaign. Give some detail to the units (general included), purpose, and legacyof your favorite campaign army!

I have a couple, the first one being one of the funniest scenarios I've ever encountered in this game. In my last Rhun campaign, I had a general buying mercenaries from Harad to form an all Haradrim army under my Easterling general (I think it was the heir) xD I was planning on using the army to uppercut into Gondor, but Mordor, Harad, and Isengard were tearing it apart. Harad broke our alliance and declared war on me, but they were completely exposed to me and had barely any units garrisoned in its cities. So, seeing the potential irony, I used my Harad merc army to conquer Harad

My other favorite army was my Sylvan full stack of just archers with Haldir at the lead. I don't remember how many of each tier there was, but I used this army soley to conquer any town below stone castle. Never lost a man, almost never had to break down the gates, almost never had to even step inside the settlement

I once built an army full of Mumakil, I was so deep in debt, but Denethor and Boromir were squashed.

So I was wondering if you had 20 catapults, could they completely halt an advancing line and rout them with flaming ammo. I even did it against the dwarves to avoid cavalry. Well even with 20 of them, the accuracy is poo but it definitely looked like armageddon.

Once I played dwarves, and thought I'd make Balin conquer Moria just like it happened. I let him train some lower tier lever units, while upgrading the Barracks in Erebor, and after he took Dain's Halls I had Iron Guards, Erebor Axemen and Crossbowmen. My finances where crap, but with a full stack of elite units I took Gundabad, Orc Town, Orc Outpost and Moria. It was quite bittersweet though as Balin died in the battle for Moria, and a large orc army came from the east two turns later and took back some regions.

    I played Silvan Elves

I depend on their deadliest bow skill so my army usually full of Silvan Archer, They can be both melee and range specialist

Massive volley of arrow is way enjoy for me
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.

My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.

    - Dwarven crossbows in the middle. Pikemen in the center, Axemen and other shield wall capable units on the flanks of the pikes, then regular non shield warriors (miners, axemen ect.) on the way flanks with 2-4 units of catapults behind it all and my general behind the pikes... if im lucky ill have 2 units of dale cav in the rear flanks....

This army here can steam roll anything..

Playing as High Elves, with one of three Generals I always add to my campaigns (Feanor, Finarfin and Fingolfin, not terribly lore accurate but meh ).
Besieging Moria, Fingolfin is slain by the Balrog who then enters combat with Glorfindel my other general present, whom manages to kill the Balrog but dies of his wounds in the process. (actually a goblin stuck a sword into his back but I refuse to accept that )

It was incredibly similar to the disastrous siege of Angband in the First Age where Fingolfin is killed (I think), and Glorfindel dies as well except I won that battle. He should come back to life though eventually as he is one of the immortal heroes isn't he?

Celeborn, sentinels and two forest wardens took the one above lothlorien. Silvan spearmen and 2 elf archers added for Beorn's hall's and another sentinel added to the army took Moria. By then the original sentinels had 2 silver chevrons but only about 45 men left I think (it was a while ago). No retraining for them at all.

It was a shame when an orc army (no trolls) killed them, including Celeborn, after beating both balrog scripts. The few prisoners that got ransomed set up ambush nearby and almost took out a near full orc stack. Even killed the general but all the elves died. They did well though. The mightiest of elves could achieve death or glory. They got both.
