Icon3 [RELEASED SUBMOD] Fire and Blood [UPDATE - 0.9 STABILITY TEST VERSION RELEASED 12/6/15 ]

Work in Progress: 'Fire and Blood' - An 'Alternative Universe' Standalone Version of Westeros: Total War

PLEASE NOTE - THIS MOD WAS DEVELOPED ON TOP OF THE OLD 2012-ERA W:TW Beta - It should still run as a standalone but no not attempt to combine with the more modern 2018 W:TW 1.0 Beta!

    VERY RELATED

    Backstory:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The year is 297AL and the Seven Kingdoms are in strife. The reign of Robert Baratheon has nearly bankrupted the Kingdoms. After the somewhat mysterious death of the previous hand, Lord Arryn, Eddard Stark reigns as Hand of the King while Robert is off hunting. During this time, Eddard slowly discovers the truth behind the true parentage of Joffrey ‘Baratheon’. Tensions emerge between the Lannisters and the Starks, and Catelyn Stark’s seizure of Tyrion Lannister, ‘the Imp’ almost brings the factions to blows.

With Robert away, Eddard Stark is attacked in the streets of King’s Landing. With Northern blood having been spilled, the Lannisters and Starks begin to move towards an endgame when out of the blue, a rider from the Stormlands arrives at the gates of King’s Landing, bearing news that ships bearing Dragon banners sail across the Narrow Sea, bound for the remote Island of Tarth.
Will Lord Stark reveal the truth behind Joffrey’s parentage to Robert, or will he remain silent for the good of the realm? Will Tywin Lannister curb his daughter’s machinations, or will he seek to elevate House Lannister’s already dominant position?

Stannis Baratheon has long suspected foul play in Jon Arryn’s murder, and has retired to his meagre holdings around Dragonstone. As Robert’s Master of Ships he has the only fleet that has a chance of deterring a Targaryen naval assault. Will Stannis sail to meet the foe, or bide this time and gather his forces?

As for the other factions of the realm – who will they choose to side with? The Lords of Dorne and the Reach previously chose to side with the Targaryens during Robert’s Rebellion, while the Riverlands and the Vale were divided. Will their current lords call their banners in support of the dragon? Or will their levies drive the Targaryens back into the sea once and for all?

As for House Greyjoy, the Ironborn remained neutral during Robert's Rebellion yet none have forgotten the blood that was spilled during Balon Greyjoy's failed rebellion. Will this bad blood lead the Lord Reaper of Pyke to declare for the Targeryens? Or will he seize the opportunity to declare for independence?

    Summary:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Built on the enhanced 0.53 modification (+ a few other mini-submods) and with certain Targ details borrowed from the Blackfyre Rebellion, this submod presents a 'what if' scenario: Westeros is on the bring of war as plans are hatched and swords drawn in the shadows of King's Landing, yet a powerful threat sails from across the Narrow Sea. Will the great houses of Westeros continue in their spiral towards war, or will they unite against a common foe?

This submod takes place at time just before King Robert Baratheon's hunting accident. Word reaches King's Landing that ships have been seen crossing the Narrow Sea, bound for Tarth. Will the powers of Westeros unite to face this threat? Or will loyalties be strained as old alliances are re-born?

    Features:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - Improvements on the Enhanced 0.53 Submod
    - New artwork (Courtesy various sources - no ownership implied)
    - 7 New Factions (House Targaryen, House Frey, House Bolton, House Hightower, House Redwyne, House Yronwood, House Darry) with skins courtesy of the Blackfyre Submod and A Kingdom of Rivers and Hills (Thanks to Dux!)
    - A dozen or so new units
    - New Skins for many factions (Thanks to Prophet)
    - Multiple New Characters
    - New Ancillaries
    - New 'Declarations' System to encourage the AI to take action
    - Isle of Diplomats for all major factions (Sadly there is no room for Frey or Bolton, but they have princesses)
    - Unit balancing - Cavalry now fight properly in auto-resolve battles!
    - Other minor changes

A bit bit of advice for all players - Check out the map using the 'toggle_fow' command to see what is new, where certain characters are.

Most factions have at least two diplomats or princesses on the map - a few had to be cut at last minute but they are either on the 'Isle of Diplomats' off the coast of Dorne, or around King's Landing.

    • KorpsKog - For assisting with settlement creation, positioning, and research - among other things
    • Prophet1331 - For providing skins, lovely new maps, suggestions, and other areas of input
    • Dux and the KORAH Team - For letting me use some of their materials, and their inspiration
    • Buttswag - For the symbols
    • WithnRar, Gigantus, and Vegas_Bear for their support in scripting questions.
    • ComradeH - Research and faction descriptions
    • SoulGamesInc - For the publicity video
    • Uriyaca for settlement suggestions
    • Inarus for the Logo
    • Jemdkyl, Stefan1921, Megells, and Hackera96 for their help with text editing!

    Installation Instructions:

    1) UnRar to Mods/Westeros
    2) Double-Click the shortcut.
    3) Enjoy!

If you want a game with strong alliances, go with 'easy' or 'medium' - If you want a game with lots of backstabbing and total war, go for 'very hard'

This is a beta version - there is still a lot to be done!

Nice, but what's the background on the, Targaryen? Faction. I could do some writing if you need it. Looks awesome, support+rep.

    4) It is highly recommended that you play on VERY HARD Campaign Setting to get the most out of the game.

This is a work in progress, and lots of scripting still needs to be done. This is only a proof on concept!

    New Features:

    - 3 New factions: House Targaryen, House Frey, House Bolton
    - Multiple New Characters
    - New Ancillaries
    - New 'Declarations' System to encourage the AI to take action
    - Isle of Diplomats for all major factions (Sadly there is no room for Frey or Bolton, but they have princesses)
    - Other minor changes

    Known 'bugs'

    1) Robert's Battle Model fights with a lance, and not a sword (or hammer). THis looks odd but functions fine in game!
    2) The Gold Cloaks of King's Landing only have 77 men rather than 120. this is a weird bug and I have no clue what has caused this. Simply retrain them (Makes sense re:game lore aswell)
    3) House Frey's description is not showing.

I want to release this today (Sunday 11/11/2012) as I will not have much time in the next week for gaming.

Any issues, PM me on the Westeros board at Total War Center

    Badger-Dude

Happy gaming! I hope you all enjoy this!

Good luck bro, the mod really does look great. Its nice to see someone who actually puts there ideas to work instead of just wanting somebody to do if for them. I wish you all the best and will be keeping track of this.

If this is before the outburst of war then what will you doing in the game?
And if this is before the outburst of war then what are the Targaryen doing in the game...
No matter, I always enjoy when people make new submods, always something extra to play with after you complete your idea you should explain more about it.

If you want to change the "Byzantines" to Targaryens you need to edit Expanded.txt in data/text. Just find all entries with BYZANTINE in it and edit the thing on the line
    example

    Code:
    {BYZANTINE_ASSASSIN} Byzantine Assassin
    you change to
    Code:
    {BYZANTINE_ASSASSIN} Targaryen Assassin
Don't change the BYZANTINE in caps, just the usual text.

    Content's well good, innit.

In this alternate universe, wouldn't the Baratheon brothers be united in one faction?

It looks like Drogo and Dany come across the poison water to give Rhaego the Iron Chair.

Lets see who declares for the rightful Queen .

Also with this happening might be interesting to see an early Gold Company Invasion Event.

I wanted to present an alternative to the standard 'War of the 5 Kings' scenario in a way which would upset the typical alliances we normally see in a game. I decided to use an alternative scenario, taking place slighgtly before the standard submod. See below...

Many thanks. The screenies are actually of a slightly earlier build. Apart from a little 'housekeeping' (icons) and some scripting, everything works perfectly as far as I can see. If I manage to get things tightened up tonight I will release an alpha. If now, sadly it will have to wait till I return from holiday!

    Essentially, yes...

Aegon will factor in somewhere, although his exact role is not certain yet.

You can use the Targaryen icons and unitskins from the Blackfyre submod, the skins are from prophet and free to use and I believe the icons and stratmodels are from Noobas, also free to use.

I think you should wait with a release until you have a solid version, no need to rush things.

So will the Baratheon brothers be one faction?

Originally, the story was to begin after Robert's death. I had started the story with a Targ surprise assault upon Dragonstone, which game-wise basically meant that Stannis' faction was a non-entity. As such, I removed his faction and gave Stannis as either a general to Joffrey, or the leader of House Baratheron. However, overnightI rethought this, remembering that many believe that Stannis will have some importance to Dany's storyline in the long run. As such, I removed my changes and instead left things as they are in #1:

    1) Eddard Stark has declined Renly's offer and made his pact with Littlefinger. He plans on seizing the throne in the name of Stannis and for thje good of the realm. However, before the debacle in the Throne Room can occur, a rider from the Stormlands interrupts proceedings, with warning of ships bearing dragon banners, making towards Tarth. The war of the 5 Kings is basaically about to begin, with the exception being that Eddard Stark remains in the capital and formal war has not yet been declared between Houses Tully/Stark and House Lannister. Beric Dondarrion andh is company, under orders from the Hand, ride to apprehend Gregor Clegane, but formal war hasn't been declared. It is up to the players to decide whose side to take in the upcoming war, and whether to put aside their differences for the good of the realm...

    2) This option would take place a few months before the above incident, in a scenario where the Targ invasion occurs before Robert's death. Game-play wise, it would only be possible to claim for Kingship AFTER Robert's death. This would require a little tweaking of the Kingship scripts.
