    Default [RELEASED]Real light infantry

Ok guys this is my very first mod so forgive my noobness. When the game came out I was shocked to see that only the first line of light infantry could fire. As it is right now in Darthmod, all men fire BUT they take their sweet time to get into position and they only fire at the same time. They even wait for all guys to finish firing before they start reloading. What this little mod does is give the light infantry units the ability for all ranks to fire AND light infantry behaviour. However, as long as mass fire is in, it will NOT work.

    How to install:
1.Use the pfm manager to open darthmod_shogun.pack and go to db-->unit to unit abilities junctions tables-->darth unit to unit abilities junctions version 0. There delete the rows that add mass fire to the light infantry units. This is crucial for the mod to work properly.
    2. Drop the file into your shogun 2 data folder. That's it.

This works without the bayonet submod. I have not found a way to overwrite that pack as well so if you use that you will have to do everything yourselves. Again, repeat steps one and two and then use the pfm manager to edit the bayonet mod(it overwrites darthmod shogun so this is the one you want to change). Go to unit stats land tables and once you find the all ''ranks can fire'' column, change it to true for the light infantry units.

I am trully sorry for the extra steps but I have found no way to completely overwrite darthmod shogun and the bayonet submod so some manual work is needed. Try it and tell me what you think

''Real light infantry'' is based on or uses many files of DarthMod: Shogun II originally made by DARTH VADER.
''Real light infantry'' is also registered here: DarthMod: Shogun II submods.

EDIT: It seems that Darth has removed mass fire in the latest version so step one is no longer needed.

    Elianus,

Any possibility that you could update this mod so that Matchlock Kachi also work the same way? They are an exceptionally useless unit without this.

Everyone has different strategies for using different units depending on their strengths and weaknesses. Lets examine the facts - the most important thing to remember is that Matchlock Kachi are samurai. They are effective in rough terrain where they can close with enemy to minimise their range and accuracy weaknesses. They are also very effective where they can volley and charge non-melee specialist unit - being samurai they are relatively effective in melee against regular troops. However, their diversity is their greatest weakness: they are not exactly light infantry, they are not melee troops and they are definitely not line infantry and, not being armed with bayonets, they are atrocious against cavalry unlike line infantry. In that respect, they are more like a Levy Infantry with good morale and melee but less effectiveness against cavalry. It's also important to remember that Matchlock Kachi are a traditional unit and traditional units/armies are all about numbers, morale and intelligent use of terrain. It is also important to remember that Matchlock Kachi don't get the modern research bonuses such as rifle accuracy or suppressive fire ability.

While they aren't modern light infantry they are definitely intended to be primarily ranged infantry ('Matchlock Kachi' as opposed to 'Samurai That Just Happen to Have Old Crappy Guns'). With that in mind, any sensible commander would realise that he has to employ Matchlock Kachi in a way that minimises their inherent weaknesses against modern troops, especially as they become stronger. One thing any sensible commander would do is have them fight in open order (loose formation) and fire as much as possible. Single rank fire in close or open order when already outgunned is definitely not an act of common sense. Even in their niche role as 'volley and charge' shock troops this lack sense: a volley should definitely employ maximum firepower to shake enemy resolve.

Considering the above, this is why I think they should have mass fire. I think whether or not they are by definition light infantry is debatable but also irrelevant: at some point any sensible commander is going to think - "these matchlock troops can no longer fight as line infantry/traditional matchlock troops and must compensate for their lower quality weaponry by employing different tactics." Mass fire would definitely improve their staying power in a long campaign.

    Hello Elianus,

Tested the latest iteration and while Matchlock Kachi are performing exactly as I would hope.

However, I have noticed that the modern light infantry now doesn't mass fire when using Light Infantry Behaviour. All modern Light Infantry units do however mass fire when not using Light Infantry Behaviour.

I believe what you have actually done is made version 2 only affect Matchlock Kachi, and version 1 affects modern light infantry. Therefore players wanting both modern and Matchlock Kachi units to massfire need both 1 and 2, is that correct?

A mate and I have been using this mod in our co-op campaign, but it keeps crashing. When we take out the mod, it runs fine, but any time we put it back in it takes a battle or two before it crashes. Any idea as to why that is?
