I“m following the work on several mods for RTW and I must say that Paeinsula Italica looks very promising. It“s one of my favourite projects and I hope you“re gonna bring this to a succesful end. I like your greek merceneries very much (as all I have seen yet). Not only because you obviously design fantastic models but also because you put so much effort in their historical accuracy. I“m very curious how your mod is gonna be overall.

I don't know how accurately they are depicted, but these Spartans are well made and look very good!

But Idomeneas, your avatar is a picture of a Spartan, isn't it? I've seen no skins for Spartans like that and I've been searching for them to look like that (I remember a book about the ancient Greeks where the Spartans (Hoplitai Spartiatai) were depicted almost exactly in this way: the same detailed and angled crest, the same type of helmet, long hair, white shoulder piece corselet with black and red details (ornamentation) on it worn over a red tunic, and a large, red mantle a little to the side to free their right speararm). Are there Spartans like that to be downloaded somewhere, and if it is believed that they used to look like that, to what era do they belong?

PS. Scrolling down to the mercenaries etc I must agree with all critics: this mod looks very promising!

Just a new regional unit reproducing a light spearman of the "Siculi" (Sicels), available in the center and in the eastern portion of Sicily.

The reference material for the Sicel warriors is very fragmentary. The archeological evidence suggests a mix of native and Greek items and features. The Chalcidian helmet comes from a Sikel tomb found at Adrano. Greaves and a leather belt with a bronze clasp covered with deocrated bronze plates were common among Sicel warriors. Some bronze statuettes depict belted spearmen with a short torso protection which ends just over the abdomen. The available sources report that the Sicels wore long wool tunics in ochre color, and used leather armour. The decorative motivs in use among the Sicels reflect the influence of the Greek art.

A parte le colonie Cartaginesi e quelle Greche,gli abitanti dell'interno (Sicani) non erano certo nč organizzati militarmente molto bene,nč sicuramente usavano la panoplia tipica dei greci,erano montanari/pastori,abbastanza grezzi e imbarbariti,che avevano come unica risorsa,il fatto di vivere in villaggi montani fortificati e poco accessibili,ed in territori poco appetibili per entrambi i Greci ed i Cartaginesi,se hai documentazione diversa al riguardo,mi piacerebbe conoscerla dato che mi occupo di archeologia...
Un'altra cosa,graficamente i tuoi modelli sono ottimi,purtroppo le decorazioni degli scudi (ammesso perņ che tu ricerchi la correttezza storica)sono molto improbabili,a volte anche l'aspetto generale non č corretto,complimenti comunque.

Prima di tutto i Siculi ed i Sicani sono due popolazioni diverse, una pre-indoeuropea (Sicani) l'atra indoeuropea, i Siculi, che precisamente sono ascrivibili alla pirma ondata indoeuropea che interessņ la penisola italiana, quella che comprendeva i Latini, I Veneti ed appunto i Siculi. I Siculi passarono in Sicilia dall'Italia e si stanziarono nella parte centro orientale dell'isola, relegando i Sicani nella parte occidentale, tranne la porzione delimitata dai territori di Entella, Erice e Segesta occupate da un'altra popolazione indoeuropea, gli Elimi, di probabile provenienza anatolica.
Visto che ti definisci esperto di archeologia forse ti sarą gradito apprendere che le tre popolazioni in questione, ovvero i Siculi, i Sicani e gli Elimi erano tutt'altro che semplici barbari/pastori con le pezze nel di dietro, sopratutto gli Elimi che ben presto si ellenizzarono completamente tanto da risultare indistinguibili dai greci, come si evince anche dall'evidenza archeologica. Gli stessi Siculi subirono dal V secolo in poi una fortissima influenza dalle vicine cittą greche tanto che in epoca ellenistica (quella del nostro mod per intenderci) i corredi tombali comprendono quasi per intero materiale greco, pur mantenendo qualche elemento tradizionale paleo-italico. Le tombe di Montagna di Marzo (la sicula Motyon, nei pressi della quale venne soconfitto Ducezio) hanno restituito panoplie in perfetto stile greco. La stessa Morgantina (sicula) presenta un impianto urbano di tipo ippodameo di schietta matrice ellenistica, con tanto di boulč e teatro.
Mi dispiace smentirti ma materiale ed armi di tipo greco sono la cosa pił diffusa che si trova anche nelle tombe sicane, dove invece manca del tutto il residuo di materiale di derviazione italica proprio dei Siculi. I Sicani rimasero comunque la meno progredita delle popolazioni siciliane.
Per quango riguarda l'organizzazione politica e militare delle popolazioni in questione, essa ebbe esiti diversi in epoche diverse; per lunghi anni L'elima Segesta fu acerrima rivale della greca Selinunte, poi le cittą elime entrarono nell'orbita politica cartaginese; i Siculi ebbero parte attivissima nella storia e nelle vicende militari dell'isola a tentarono anche con Ducezio (sovrano Siculo profondamente ellenizzato, come tutta l'elite Sicula) un vasto tentativo egemonico in Sicilia orientale nel V secolo. Le cittą Sicule in alcuni periodi le troviamo federate in una lega nazionale, ma poi finirono per cadere sotto il diretto dominio di Siracusa.

Un consiglio, mai dare giudizi drastici pensando di saperne pił degli altri se non si hanno le spalle pił che robuste in materia. Io stesso non mi azzardo a dare giudizi del genere sul lavoro altrui, e non mi ritengo esattamente l'ultimo arrivato. Le tue opinioni riguardo la poca storicitą delle unitą riprodotte naturalmente non le condivido affatto, e sono abbastanza sereno sulla fedeltą storica (nei limiti del possibile) di quanto riprodotto. Nulla č stato fatto a cuor leggero, ma c'č dietro un lungo e laborioso lavoro di ricerca, anche se tutto naturalmente č migliorabile.

Postare genericamente una lista delle fonti e dei riferimenti che ho uitlizzato sarebbe cosa troppo lunga ...chiedi qualcosa pił in particolare e vedrņ se potrņ esserti di aiuto.
