    Default The Great Forum Cleanup

So I've been exploring the less-used parts of the forum a bit lately, and I've come to realize that we are in desperate need of a clean-out (understatement). While it's nice to have threads around for the purpose of archiving/maintaining our history, there's really a lot of stuff here that hasn't been getting used or looked at at all and may as well be deleted. I don't want to do anything unilaterally, so I'm posting this thread here to ask you guys what you think ought to be done about the matter.

Basically my plan now is to go through and delete anything beyond a certain time period, perhaps from 2009-back, perhaps 2010, or maybe even more recent than that. I will, of course, be very discerning in what gets deleted, and anything of potential value will be zipped off to the archives (which are also in dire need of some purging). If you have any other ideas, please feel free to propose them for discussion here.

Discussion, by the way, does not mean I want to hear anybody say that they want things to be kept as-is. This is the only thing that I will do regardless of your opinion because this forum is way too cluttered to go down that road.

    I meant 2011.
You see? My memory is clouded by all these useless threads and the posts that dwell within stirring their evil memory cloudiness recipes to induce upon me.

They must be stopped at once.

For all avoidance of doubt, any votes by non-IH'ers do not count.

EDIT: Didn't see your post Cels, I meant the two other schmucks who voted.

Why delete anything, especially the beginning stuff? It's forum history mate. Leave it alone.

That's why. This forum is a mess and it's wasting TWC's already-strained bandwidth. As I already said, anything of "historical" significance will go to the archives where it can sit for the rest of its days, maybe it'll even find a place in the official History thread. Anything else that has no practical use will have to be deleted, for the sake of the entire forum.

Initially, yes, but it had its greatest growth under our own watchful eyes over the last two years. We have decided that it's time to trim down.

"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

Go on and vote, Jacb. You're one of us now.

However, would non-IH'ers PLEASE stop voting on this poll! It's completely screwing with the results. So far though it looks like the majority say that it should be from 2011-back

Their existence won't change via deletion. as long as nobody is viewing the stuff in the archives, it doesn't use bandwidth. Even if you do delete them, they will be soft deleted, and still technically there. (Remember the Bar on April Fools?)

All actual IH threads will be saved to the archives.

Since it has been around a week without discussion, I'm going to go ahead and begin the process this weekend.

I'm opposed to any deletions of anything, for Gunny's reasons.

Besides, very few things are being deleted anyway. Anything of actual significance will be moved to the archives, as previously discussed. I haven't had time this weekend to start anyway.
