Thread: I want to enjoy playing MW2, tips?

Default I want to enjoy playing MW2, tips?

So, i've been playing Shogun 2, empire and napoleon. I wanted to try Medieval 2 (It is my favorite scenario age, i LOVE medieval things) but the graphics are a bit too dated for me :S.

I mean, i'm loving the whole game, the only problem i'm having are the graphics, damn.

Is there any mod that enhances in some way the game, i mean, graphics too?

What are the best gameplay mods around (i saw that third age mod, seems AWESOME as i'm a big tolkien fan).

Any other tips and stuff are much appreciated, thank you!

Well, I think M2TW has alright graphics, I don't think Empire's or Napoleon's graphics are way better. You should try Stainless Steel, it improves gameplay and all factions have gotten a reskin. Furthermore, just look around in the hosted mod section, there's a lot of good released mods and some very promising ones too.

As for TATW, I really like it and enjoy playing it. It's just a little slower and some factions are pretty easy but it's fun overall. Besides, the custom settlements are amazing.

If you decide to play SS, then check out the submod section, there are many cosmetic submods and much, much more.

You could try ENBSeries by Boris Vorontsov, it adds new shader/lightning effects and make the game look much better imho.

If you like what you see in my spoiler, and want to have it yourself just do the following:

Go to http://www.enbdev.com/download_mod_re4.htm and download the file.
Put the contents of the file "Re4 enb series by octavio_sk8" in your M2TW directory.
Go here and follow instructions on how to edit the mod: http://www.enbdev.com/old_doc_en.htm#presetdescription

Alternatively, if you don't know how to edit the mod yourself I can provide you with my own presets of the enbseries.ini file. They're in the attachment with this post. Just replace the old enbseries.ini file with the new one.

You may want to play around with the ingame brightness settings to get the desired effects, I have mine set to around 30.

    Good luck!

    • Well one tip I would give would be to do all your agent actvities first, then start moving and attacking with your armies. That way your spies and other agents will show you where you need to go and where not to go. They also will provide you with some extra money which could come in handy for doing such things as building lookout towers and hiring mercenaries. You can get a list of agents by right-clicking on the agent tab at the bottom of the screen.
    • Another tip is to decide from the very start if you are going to go for chivalry or dread, this determines many ways that you will do things. For instance, you should not fight battles at odds much better than 1:1 if you are going for chivalry, even if it means leaving part of your army behind. If you can fight at odds worse than 1:1 then you are more likely to get an heroic victory, which gives a big boost for the general.
    • Another tip is to play on very hard/very hard, you won't find this much more difficult and the battles are much more enjoyable
    • For more tips, download the Medievalopedia (see Introducing the Medievalopedia below), even a brief look will help you a lot.
If you think there's something wrong with the graphics (other than the shape of the horses' heads') then perhaps you need to change your resolution or graphics settings. You can change the resolution for both the battles and the map screen. Usually the game auto-selects a resoulution far below what your computer is capable of using. If you want to see some graphics that will wow you, try anything involving the Aztecs (though they are not so much fun to play as they don't have any cavalry). Mods like Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent, and definitely Third Age do provide many improvements. You should probably not play Third Age first as it is for experienced players only.

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy playing M2TW! Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions on this forum:
