Thread: End Turn Slow Speed

    Default End Turn Slow Speed

Ok two days i have tried to search the forums, to no avail. Recently installed TATW and every time i click end turn it takes a little more than 2 minutes to cycle through all the AI players.

Initially i thought maybe that its my computer since MTWK2 only uses 1 core, but bothe METW2 and Kingdoms [all 3 remaining unmodified expansions] run smooth. They cycle through AI in the natural 5-10 seconds it ussually takes.

Please note i get no other lag, graphic or otherwise anywhere.

Actions that i took to no avail so far: Malware scan, Defrag, Glary Utilities, Lowest Graphic Settings, Disabled Sound, Closed [Through task manager] most other things running but bare windows services just in case there was a conflict. Restarted a few times. Continued up until turn 20 [Took me roughly 1 hour of not playing just clicking end turn] to see if it was just the first few turns. Scoured the forums in vain hope of somebody having a solution.

I found one more person that had the same problem but instead of a solution he just stopped playing the mod which doesnt help me at all.

Please note i have played the mod in 3.0 or 3.1 and i had absolutely no issue. Cant remember version though.

Its a steam installation, beyond that the mod works fantastic i get no lag in my turn, in battles or in menu.

Any ideas would be wonderfully welcome

There have been a few threads on this before. Are you using any submods?

The main culprit for slow end turn times is scripts. Trying to run the game on an old computer will also obviously make the game run slow. Many large submods add lots of extra scripts that can really slow down the turn time. If you have extra submods you might just want to go back to vanilla TATW 3.2. If you don't have any submods you can still try deleting some scripts.

Take a look at the campaign script file and see what you can live without.

    Medieval II Total War\mods\Third_Age_3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\campaign_script

When you find a script you'd like to delete highlight the lines and delete it. For example, if you'd like to delete the garrison script find the line that says:

    ;#################### Garrison Script Version 3.0 #####################
Remove everything below it until you find the line that says
    ;########################### MONEY SCRIPT ##############################

For more information you can see look here, here, and here.

Contrary to common opinion, deleting scripts doesn't really help. Turn time is mostly affected by Campaign AI (~90%), much less by ancillaries, traits, EDB, guilds and finally campaign script.

Existing AI projects don't differ much when it comes to turn time, I was working on a concept of a simplified version before I took what turned out to be 6 months break, but I may not have enough time on my hands to finish in in less than 6 months.

But unmodded 3.2 should never take that long to conclude a turn in initial stages of the game anyway.

I don't know... It's a very clear difference when I played with submods like Baron's that adds tons of scripts, and when I deleted some of them, there was a noticeably difference in turn speed. It's also seemed to help users in the past.

Yes, you're right in this manner, that with some submods there is such an amount of added data (ancillaries, traits, scripts), that they do influence turn speed.

But this is general forum and I hope the issue reported was with vanilla 3.2 - and vanilla isn't that script-heavy.

At some point I did some research (Here and Here) , it clearly shows AI as the culprit of the most of lag.

Of course there's another factor - quality of scripts - and by quality I mean optimising number of performed checks and existing monitors fot the best efficiency.

Users do often come here looking for help even with submods installed. I assumed in this instance there is a submods installed, because as you said, there should be no problem with vanilla 3.2.

I installed MoS and the game takes ages to end the turn of the AI Factions, what scripts should i delete that will make the game run faster?

The Garrison Script is optional for MoS so ill disable that. But is there anything else?

You should post about this in MOS submod thread, they can help you more with this.
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

A video of false chemical attack in Douma, Syria, which led to Western illegal attacks.
