    1) I don't think it is moddable, probably hardcoded in the engine
    2) I already have modded the smokes, and won't change it more than it is. I did some testing, and if the smoke stays longer, then it actually accumulate and never really dissipate. After a while, there's smoke everywhere and you don't see anything. Although it may seems more reallistic, what is the point of making nice uniforms and if you can't see them :op ?
    3) Won't do. Each new coat uses up a slot in the atlas, and they are already full. Beside, you can't change uniforms, so having great coats and no great coats requires doubling all the units. Too much work. And it creates side effects, like with the recruitment limits
    4) Not very easy to mod, and I like them as they are
    5) I have decided to make the limits in custom battle = twice the limits in the campaign. And in the campaign it will remain limited to 1 to preserve the elite character of the unit. So in custom battles you'll get 2.

    Hey Steph

On number 4) i don't understand how your happy with it, the way it is now is nothing. When the gun shoots all you see is smoke and you don't see blast of the gun were is it. I do hope you add it to make it realistic.

On another note the uniforms are just Awesome very good job on the mod cant wait for more.

Omg that is a reenactment video, There is no blast/sparks because they are just shooting smoke. Your mod is all great except this one thing, your making a reenactment Mod not a realistic Mod.

Look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxjKfzMU9go In your mod at least put a bit of a blast and some sparks it will make the Mod a hole lot better.

Is there any way that I could change General Von Blucher's head back to its vanilla version? I have tried but when I get into the game it crash's.

Maybe it hasnt been said yet or you have already thought about it but... will you use Lua script language to make the Coalition allies and France allies NOT fight each other while in the same coalition? It is very annoying to have allies fight for no apparent reason even if they are under France's protection or Britain's coalition.

Also, regiments that are under 50 men - the minimum required to form square - I believe it would be wise to disband them after a heavy battle with high losses. So you wont have to chase armies of, say, 5 units of 10 or 20 men all across the map.

I plan to so some Lua scripting, but I'm not sure how easy it is to do what you suggest (like automatically disbanding small size units).

Not really. Despite what some claims, we cannot mod the Battle AI. But I changed some parameters to give I think more reallistic battle experience.

Would it be possible to remove the Gaelic place names from Scotland? They are pretty anachronistic for this time period. By the early nineteenth century Gaelic was a language in strong decline. The Lowlanders spoke Scots or English, while the Highlanders had suffered a long diaspora thanks to the Highland Clearances following the Jacobite Rebellion. This is the time period of the great Scots writers, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott, for example, writing in Scots and English, but not Gaelic. Even in the case of a national uprising where Scotland became an independent nation it would be massively unlikely that they'd returned established cities and famous cities to ancient, pre-medieval Gaelic names.

Take Edinburgh, for example, although the spelling changes it's been called Edinburgh or a close form since the 1300s. Calling Edinburgh Dun Eideann would be akin to calling Paris Lutèce.

(The same can be said for Ireland, where English was pretty strongly imposed on the natives, but as a Scotsman, I'll limit my recommendations to my own country )

What would be the name in Scot then?
As for the name of the Scottish units (as emergent), if you want to suggest better names (in Scot), go ahead.
I can change the name to something more suitable, but only if I have a consistent and complete set of names.

However, the Act of Proscription was in 1746, so "only" 60 years before the game. So, if Scotland become an emergent independent country, I think it may be logical that it would be supported by the most anti English part of the population, and so that by reaction to former persecution, they could try to enforce some kind of return to the "old fashion", and so may be use Gaelic.

Scotland was populated by such fiesty and independent people that unifying them would have been quite a feat. Without delving too deep into historical facts Lowlanders and Highlanders tended to not like each other about as much as they didn't like the England. At the Battle of Culloden in 1746, a full fourth of the Government army was Lowland Scots. The Lowlands were the economic and population heartland of Scotland, without them any attempt at independence would not have worked. But I am digressing...

Regarding place names I would simply leave them in their "English" forms. Edinburgh & Glasgow are Scottish. As far as the names of units go it gets even more confusing. Scots is, I don't know how to put it, more of a dialect than a language. It doesn't have a set spelling; I heard it described once as simply writing what you hear. It's similar enough to English that the langauges can be understood without too much difficulty. Take "Scots wha hae wi Wallace bled"; it's not a stretch to see that address is to "Scots who have with Wallace bled".

Look at the term "Dragoon". In Scots I've seen it written as drawgun, dregune, dragoun, drawgounis, dregounes, and dragon. In every case the author is writing the word "dragoon", but his own take on how to spell it due to how it sounded to him. I apologise for writing so much...

I say all that to say all this; an emergent Scotland would most likely have unit names that don't read much different than English: Foot, Light Foot, Dragoon, ect. The would sound different when spoken, but this way it's clean and simple.

Again, sorry for such a long post. I love talking history

Too bad, I like the Gaelic names, it makes it more colourfull. It would be a pitty to just use plain English, wouldn't it?

I understand! At the end of the day it's your mod (and a great one at that) so if you want to stick with the Gaelic names of course it's your call It's just distracting for me as a native Scot to see names that I'm particularly proud of referred to by names that have been out of use by the majority of Scots for six hundred or more years.

    Hi Steph,

In a different sub-forum you talked about how you might rework the French a little.
As you know I'm a long time fan of your work, so I thought I'd make a few suggestions based on your magnificent work so far.
I hope it can help you make your mod even more realistic.

For starters I looked at the 1812-1815 period, for which I have the most complete documentation.
For now I mainly based my remarks on Ugo Pericolu, "1815 The Armies at Waterloo" and these sites:
    http://histoirevivante.forumculture.net/t41-reglement-d-habillement-1812-bardin
    http://www.reenactor.ru/ARH/PDF/Christian_B.pdf

First off. choosing a custom battle period 1812-1815 I could recruit "fusiliers de la Marine 1807".

    chasseurs de l'infanterie légère

    • the bardin habit-veste has the wrong "retroussis" or turnbacks on the "basques" or tales. They come together in a point, but that was pre (say) 1810. For the period they should be straight. Like the turnbacks on Euro/Torsos/German_Cavalry_Coat_2 (alas that hasn't quite got the right buttons)
    • The ornament on the retroussis should be a crowned N in the same colour as the habit veste.
    • 2 buttons are missing on the sleeves.
    • There shouldn't be a chevron on the side of the shako for chasseurs.
    • the shako plate has a "cor de chasse" or bugle in the middle of the shield
    • could you make a new model for the shako that has a cocarde. Now it looks just painted on?
    • the officer's shako is of a middle guard officer. It should have a silver stripe(s) according to rank.
    • The officers epaulettes are, as i'm sure you knew already, those of a superior officer, usually found on a horse. Could you make epaulette and counter-epaulette?
    • The officers full dress veste should come down to the waist for this period, like the habit-veste but with longer tales (and straight turnbacks)

fusiliers de l' infanterie de ligne

    • the "guêtres" or gaiters should come to just below the knee.
    • I believe the ^pompon is red, but
    • the bardin habit-veste made by CA ( like in Euro/Torsos/Variant02_Coat/French_Late_Infantry_Coat mesh) has the wrong "retroussis" or turnbacks on the "basques" or tales.
    • The ornament on the retroussis should be a crowned N in the same colour as the habit veste.
    • officer shako should have gold stripes according to rank.
    • for the officers vest and epaulettes same remarks as above
    • pompon should be dark green, sky blue, orange or pink. I believe now it is red?

    voltigeurs de l'infanterie légère

    • the epaulettes should be like the chasseurs but in yellow (chamois)
    • collar should be yellow
    • sometimes the 2 lion heads on the shako plate were replaced by 2 bugles, for the légère it also has a bugle on the shield in the middle.

    voltigeurs de l'infanterie de ligne

the epaulettes should be like the fusiliers but in yellow (chamois)
sometimes the 2 lion heads on the shako plate were replaced by 2 bugles
they sometimes wore ample bleu pants with yellow stripe on the side

    carabiniers d'infanterie légère

    • The ornament de retroussis should be a red grenade.
    • the shako plate has a "cor de chasse" or bugle in the middle of the shield

    grenadiers d'infanterie de ligne

    • the shako plate should have 2 little grenades instead of 2 lion heads
    • The ornament de retroussis should be a red grenade.
    • the officers should have red plumes instead of white and bigger ones than the rank and file (I feel the plumes for the grenadiers are too big)
    • grenadiers sometimes wore ample bleu pants with red stripe.

If you value these suggestions and remarks I am more than willing to look at your work in more detail.
I must confess though, that I have my best documentation is limited to the 1812 - 1815 period.
Also I am no expert like Prince of Essling and uniforms in the field tended to show great variety, still I'll try to be as secure as possible, if I can help you that is.

France won't be redone before a long time, since I'll do that only after all the other factions are done.

But if you want to make suggestion, it would be better if you can provide an image for each suggestion, and if possible an image showing how the unit currently is, and beside it how you think it should be.
It would help evaluate if the difference is significant enough to warrant a correction.

For exemple, the Shako plate with Grenade instead of Lion head, at this scale I'm not sure you can actually see much of a difference. For me, they are actually grenades.

Well I have played several custom battles using your modification and I would like to submit some suggestions for the current state of the BAI in your mod. To demonstrate what I have experienced I have attached a series of screenshots.

For starters, the enemy AI seems to have a difficult time forming proper battle lines as seen in the first series of screenshots. You mentioned before the BAI cannot be modified but “tweaked” (via parameters). Therefore I suggest when the time comes that the parameters be modified so that the enemy BAI (and ally BAI) form and march in proper formations and battle lines.

Another issue is that the enemy BAI is too eager to engage in melee. This happens in almost every battle I participate in. In the series of screenshots, the French advance towards my line. Some of the enemy regiments stop and let off a few volleys then suddenly charge my line in a big blob of sorts. Of course they are repelled but when they reform they try the same thing again! If you look at the screenshots there is a French regiment on the bottom right of the map that seems to be the only unit that engages my troops in a straight shoot out. I suggest the parameters be modified to discourage the BAI from jumping so eagerly into melee (perhaps you could look at the BAI in the modification Napoleon Empire Realism for reference). After all I am playing Napoleon Total War not Rome Total War!
