    Default Changing the flag

    Hi there!
Is there any method to mod the flag of a country?

Yes. First, go grab a visual editor that can edit tga images. GIMP and Paint.net are free and can do what you need. Then, find the ../hoi3/gfx/flags folder and open any of the tga files in there. This will be our reference. You should write down the pixel size of the existing file. Then, go find a picture of the flag you want to have in the game, edit it and shrink it down to the size you wrote down, then save it as a .tga file. Once you've done that, name the file TAG.tga, where TAG is the 3-letter country tag used in the game. I'll take a wild guess and assume the specific tag you'll want to use is GER Afterward, go replace the old GER.tga file with the new one you made, then delete the two files titled "flagfiles". Those two files are what the game actually uses; it builds the files from the tga images in the folder, so in order to refresh the flags you have to delete both "flagfiles" so the game rebuilds them. Start up the game and the new flag should be there

Check out the file ../hoi3/localisation/countries.csv. That's the file that associates a name to the country tag. You can open it with a spreadsheet or text editor. That folder is very useful for modders, because all of the in-game text, minus a few tooltips, comes from the files in that folder. Province names come from that folder, not the history files (the names in the history files are nothing more than comments), so if in the future you want to edit the provinces you'll need to go into the localisation folder to find the names that correspond to the province IDs in the history folder.

But if I rename one country, every country just has its tags as name

Either you edited the file wrong (left out or added a ; or something) or Windows UAC screwed you over and did something to the file after you edited it.

I edited it without making new ";"
I just wrote " Republic of Iraq", but in the german section, because I use german as language in the game.

Here's a file I modded that works on my end. I've changed the English entry for SOV to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (vanilla entry is just Soviet Union) and CHC to People's Republic of China (vanilla is Communist China), as well as added new countries and it works just fine. Feel free to use it as an example. If you have Windows Vista or 7, then Windows might have done something to your files if you have the game installed in the "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" directory.

    Thank you
Now it works! There are some really better names than in the original version! But You make a little mistake: You named the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in the German section " Sojus Sowjetskich Sozialistitscheskich Respublik"
The correct translation would be "Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken"
Thank you very much! You helped me a lot!

EDIT: Also you translated Fascist Spain or Francoist Spain in "Spanischen Staat", that means in german: Spanish (accusative) state

Are you aware of anywhere that provides replacement/alternative *.tga files for download?

I've downloaded two flag mods but they both include the German swastika battle flag which doesn't bother me but might be awkward when posting screenshots of my game.

Two things. One; What file? I'm not super good or experienced with these forums, bu I see no attachment or link or anything. And two; is there any way I can get some help with a personal pet peeve of mine(probably localised and probably undoable, but it bugs me anyway).

Vichy France is probably the most famous German Collaborationist state. But when playing as Germany on the longer campaigns(the ones where you or a modder have tweaked the end dates--mine's set for the current year, both because it seems appropriate and because I like having plenty of time to muck about in my campaigns--and I also think I may be a masochist), you can't create similar regimes out of Britain and the US, which I can seriously see happening, since both nations were largely considered to be more-or-less full of ubermensch--Hitler famously(I think famously, I may just be confusing 'Most history nerds I know know this' with 'The general public knows this') tried his damnedest to not only avoid war with GB but try to get them to be his allies. He admired their military prowess and Empire, Prussia and GB had often been allies, and GB's navy was not exactly to be trifled with. There are even flags that would work for this sort of thing(hence how I ended up here; I was trying to find a way to change flags and such).

So my question is if there's any way to make it so that, upon defeating these nations, you can make them into Vichy-French-esque puppet states to help you in the Alternate-Reality Cold War.

The main reason the flags are so important here, is because whether I go for 'puppet government' or 'seduced to the dark side', the stars-and-bars seem extremely inappropriate for a Nazi-supporting regime.

    Appreciate the help!
