Preview: Settlement Models - Part 2
Part 1 is here.
~~~~ Elven Castles ~~~~
The three Elven factions put their Elvish stamp on some castles.
Wooden Castle
Castle
Fortress
~~~~ Eryn Galen ~~~~
All settlements have their own wood-elven touch.
Various
~~~~ Kingdom of Khazad-dûm ~~~~
For standard settlements Leo's three generic models: Town, LargeTown / Minor City / Wooden Castle / Castle, Large City / Fortress.
Plus some of his custom ones:
- Azanulimbar-dûm, for Iron Hills
- Dain's Halls, for Mt Gundbad
- Thorin's Halls, for Narg-dûm
And his old Mountain Fort as a starting ruin for Kibil-dûm (lost upon upgrade).
Please see Leo's thread for images. We haven't made any changes.
~~~~ Númenóreans ~~~~
Some have had a bit of work done since the last preview.
Minas Ithil has only recently been captured by Mordor; some of its buildings and trees still remain.
Angrenost's Orthanc is now darker and a fetching symbol on the front gate reminds all who built this fine abode.
Aglarond (Helm's Deep) also has newer looking walls (not shown).
Minas Ithil
Angrenost
~~~~ Custom Tiles ~~~~
Not settlements, just interesting places to get some fighting done.
Arkay has kindly donated his Amon Hen and Undertowers ("White Towers").
Amon Hen's surrounding architecture has been repaired - this is a new place in DCILA times.
On the campaign map the tallest White Tower is now a watchtower.
The river crossing at The Carrock (either bank) now has a Carrock.
Thanks again to Leo for his stuff and Arkay for his custom tiles. And xHolyCrusader who repaired Amon Hen and did the Minas Ithil buildings.
Those elven settlements look really good! Great to see you're making progress!
Thank you; Withwnar is a splendid architect, artistic as an Elven carpenter, inspired as a Dwarven engineer
I will have to agree with the opinions of Akhenaten and Ngugi. It's great to see that time and effort is still being put into improving the game and still resulting in Wonderful results!
Must say that I personally love the new Elven Settlements! The Buildings, colours and Walls/towers, (Wooden Castle Towers, I'm looking at you!)!
Impressive Work!
Wow these look phenomenal. I have been away for quite some time from the scene and I didn't know you dabbled with settlements too, Withwnar. Is there anything you can't do? Terrific job!
great work
Thanks folks.
The tops of the Elven Wooden Castle wall towers come from Leo's Elven Large Town. Forgot to mention that. I don't know if he made them or transformed them out of some vanilla thing but they're an effective addition for sure.
Great work.
Better and better! It's sheer marvellous how polished the Lotr mods for Medieval II is. Your efforts are much appreciated, dear skilled modders!
Can't concur more, Karak Norn Clansman, because the guys I'm honoured to call team mates enjoy to constantly exceed my expectations, haha
I share here a screen shot, previously displayed on ModDB as a gift to the followers, but think folks here will like it just as much. Its a sneak peak of a work in progress test-play, of what may randomly occur in the great war of the Second Age.
As the merciless hosts of the Dark Lord covers Middle-earth in shadow, and His personal legion encircle the accursed stronghold of Imladris, out of the forest High king Gil-galad march up to the rescue, and strikes at his arch enemy.
The Eldar of Lindon divulge, even in the hour of Sauron's arrogant assumption of easy victories, why in Mordor 'dread' is spelled 'Noldor'.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I absolutely LOVE the new Elven castles. You guys have really outdone yourselves here. Bravo!
I just wish someone for any mod would improve the Elven city and large city model, though, from its original base in TATW. It seems a bit...barren inside of it. I understand that the Elves were naturalist aesthetes and loved to live in harmony with nature without disturbing it too much, but come on man, bounds of reason. It's a city! Those towers and gatehouses look awesome, though, I wouldn't complain about them. Funny enough, the Elven large town model looks and feels like a regular town should, with tightly packed rows of houses and other buildings. The Elven city has a huge amount of open space in comparison, making it a bit more difficult to defend properly during a siege. Perhaps this was intentional, considering how much more powerful the Elves are in comparison to the mass of Orcs trying to Zerg-rush them. Even a completely outnumbered Elven army at Rivendell can hold that bridge effectively, sometimes two sieges in a row! With minimal losses!
Another great preview, the White Towers map is astonishing. Just like I imagine that part of Middle Earth.
A little heads up on the strategy map for those interested, the latest version is now previewed here. Not much of a difference mind you, but it's up to date hehe:
There is a typo in that post, it should be Edhellond instead of "Edhollond". Other than that, it's great to see this awesome submod still being worked on (even though it sounds as if it's even better than being released, haha)! It's the last hope to see the Dark Númenórean faction (Umbar from DaC is somewhat lame). I must admit, you made up some nice-sounding names for those regions xD
By the way, it's probably been asked a quintillion number of times, but shouldn't Dunlendings inhabit Calenardhon? And will you change the name of the settlement currently called "South Rhudaur"?
The names are given with care; the coastal settlements have Sindarin names and/or related to earlier Númenórean kings, while the further inland settlement have Adûnaic names of later kings, to reflect the colonial history of Númenor.
The native inhabitants of Calenardhon are represented in the game already, in several ways, no worry. Their kinsmen in Dunland are not involved in that at this point in time, however.
