[SOLVED] CTD on load

Hi. First of all, I would like to say thank you for this mod. It's amazing work, and learning of it prompted me to reinstall Empire.

I played this mod for the first time last night, and got about 17 turns in with Spain, before saving a final time and shutting down. Upon trying to load my save, the game crashed. It also crashed on three previous saves that I tried. I then tried to start a new campaign, which also caused a crash.

In short: the game loads up fine, but when I attempt to load a game or start a new one, the game crashes.

Update: I uninstalled Darthmod, and got the same issue. I will now reinstall empire, but I have to wait for it to download again (because apparently uninstalling deletes all local content? I hate steam.)

Verify it, don't reinstall it. So much quicker and easier.

Verified? A quick search has showed me how to do so, and I will try that next time. You'd think I wouldn't have been able to play the first time without doing so, but Steam has never made much sense to me. Thank you for your help.

Playing a vanilla turn? Oh, that can explain my own problem posted in another thread. So it is not enough that the campaign map shows up in a vanilla campaign? Thoght that was proof enough.
Well, I will make a complete uninstall/reinstall and then, in vanilla, start a campaign, move some units and hit End turn. Then let the AI make its turn, before quitting and installing DME.

Hi everyone, thank you for your quick response last time, but I am still having problems. I assume you closed the previous thread from my lack of response, but I have been busy the past few days and haven't been able to try to fix this.

To recap, I was able to play the game with DME installed a single time for 17 turns without a single issue (reloading to replay a battle more than once), but after closing the game and trying again later, the game would crash on load screen. DME settings were all on default, with the exception of 3 turns/year. I installed the launcher hotfix.

Anyway, late last night I saw the advice that had been posted here: (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=564510) in response to another user's issue and I figured I would try everything and then post again if I was still having issues.

Here is my little saga, with a summary at the bottom in case you want to skip the gory details:

The problem I ran into into is that, after uninstalling Darthmod to run the game and play a turn in Vanilla, the game would crash on startup (not even make it to the loading screen this time). After verifying the game content, and deleting The Creative Assembly Folder in username/appdata/roaming, the game would start, and then crash on the load screen when attempting to create a new campaign OR start a quick battle.

My next move was to completely uninstall the game, reinstall it, and verify it. After this, the game wouldn't even load: I would run the .exe, steam would say "launching game," and nothing would happen: no error, no splash screen, nothing. I tried everything suggested on the Steam website and forums (update directx, reinstall redistributable, etc.), and got the same issue.

On a whim, I reinstalled Darthmod, and to my complete surprise, not only did the game start, I was able to start a new campaign and load my old save. After this, I went to sleep. This morning, upon trying to actually play the game, I got my original crash on load screen problem.

After uninstalling DME again, I was able to start the game in Vanilla, but got the crash on load problem again (again, after verifying and deleting the TCA folder).

Summary: game crashes on loading screen. My theory is that the problem is that I cannot play the required first Vanilla turn because uninstalling DME does not alleviate the issue, and reinstalling the game entirely makes the problem even worse.

I have a DME log, but it reports no errors and states that the game launches successfully (because, when DME is installed, it technically does).

Well, the last time I tried to reply, the reply button instead said "closed" and it gave me a "this thread has been locked" message, or something similar. Anyway, here's the log. I know that it says 2 turns per year, but this was after a reinstallation, and I did not try to load the old 3 per year save.

Update: I "fixed" it. Maybe? I went through another uninstall-reinstall, and and then Vanilla works. DME is now installed and working. I haven't the slightest idea what, if anything I did differently this time. Perhaps the reinstall that I tried got corrupted (though you'd think the verification step would have fixed that). Perhaps it was gremlins. I may never know...

Anyway, thank you for your assistance, and for your wonderful work on this mod!
