Thread: CA Modding Summit - daniu's Blog

Default CA Modding Summit - daniu's Blog

We just arrived at the modding summit. We were given a Wifi key and I'll try to keep you up to date on what's going on in case anyone is interested. It's going to be write-only, so I won't be able to answer any questions. No idea how frequent I'm able to update either. I'm typing on my iPad so please excuse typos
We're joined by some of the team members and a guy from RPS; introductions just started, so not too much to say yet.

I was however out with Craig and Will yesterday night, and they are very enthusiastic about Total war themselves; it felt more like hanging out with a fan group than the "corporate wage slaves" some people on the forum make them out to have become

First secret announcement just out, and it's huge.
    - CA releases Steam Workshop report for maps and mods
    - CA releases some of their internal toolset to edit data
    - CA will start a documentation Wiki

Not too many specifics as of yet, but the editable data will include 3d stuff and campaign map.

    All of this released tomorrow

So early in the day (apparently; it's actually rather late here) and it already sounds like a success .

Look at what TAW said in the official thread :

This is very likely for S2 only, not for ETW/NTW.

    - CA releases Steam Workshop report for maps and mods
    Good

    - CA releases some of their internal toolset to edit data
    Very good

    - CA will start a documentation Wiki
    Excellent.

Will it be more STW2 only, or will it also support ETW/NTW?
I hope they can at list include a section in the Wiki where we can ask NTW related questions and get answers.

BTW, in their Wiki, how can we ask them question to get answers from them in the wiki?

    Q&A results:
    - we will need to write tools to convert the packed data of current mods to be able to continue them if we want to use the tools CA will release. This will probably not be trivial and take some time... The did say "you will have everythin you need to write those" though.
    - they'll look into the luac files to see if they can include the not-compiled lua versions. They did say there are lua files that are"a mess" and are not even worth releasing without documentation, and they won't be able to document it because it would impact development far too much.

    Sounds great so far.

I can't wait for a way to add own models into the game.

And I can't wait for the RomeII Demo.

I'm not pretty sur if I understood what you say. Will they release all lua files or not finally ?

Talking about maps: right now, it should be technically possible to replace castles by TEd-made ones (no documentation available as to how though). It is not possible to add castles though, S2 is stuck with the set of five... "we could work on making more possible", me: yes, please do that; if the campaign map is editable and mods create more regions, 5 is not going to cut it, and it's one of the weak points of Shogun as is...
