    Default Jazz....

I like jazz, sepcifly Jazz like this:

I know nothing about jazz, but I'd rather like some help finding more like this... I've tried finding the stuff on you tube, but it's not, Smooth enough for me... So if you could recommend more tracks to me like this one, I would be grateful and should rep you at the first possible opportunity, which may be a while, but it will happen.

I've always been a fan of Bing Crosby and the like, but that's not exactly "Smooth."

As a matter of fact, it was more of a..... "Pop-Jazz", if you will.

What you got there was pretty much a genre defining piece, the genre being smooth specifically 'after dinner' jazz. Problem with that is few artist reached the same level of mixing Jazz with the burgeoning pop music scene where pieces were much shorter and had a repeating phrase or riff, and short and catchy doesn't really transpose to jazz.

Any way, similar artists would include John Coltrane, Bill Evans Trio, Thelonious Monk Quartet, Miles Davis or my personal favourite Wes Montgomery. Best period for a similar sound to Take 5 would be the mid to late sixties when recording live was still very much the norm.

I don't think it's smooth jazz, it's cool jazz. Smooth jazz is horrible elevator music stuff.

I don't know much about Jazz, but I do like to listen to some Miles Davis and Dexter Gordon from time to time.

Not really from the style of jazz you're looking for, but I feel compelled to mention Jaco.

A'yup, smooth is R&B/Soul influenced jazz, the sort of stuff they play in McDonald's toilets. Don't know why I even typed smooth, I just call it 'Dinner Jazz.'

I was going to go on a total Mingus rampage then I realised the threads about cool jazz.
There were few who thought him a starter,
    Many who thought themselves smarter,
