And apologies welcome to the forums

both these links are fine, they are hosted on 3rd party sites and you do not need to download or sign up to anything (I uploaded both of them myself)

If you open the DME launcher and then press exit, when the prompt Vanilla or DME ready comes up, please hit Vanilla

If you can check the following folder
C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data\DME\Packs

for DME_AUM.pack

I installed DME Platinum 8.0 with 8.0.1 patch. If i start the game as 'DME ready' the game crashes just after the darth mod logo (seconds after starting) but if the game is in 'vanilla ready' everything works fine.

I would suggest that you have a corrupted download, or have used the two part install option which seems to have not installed/unzipped correctly.
You could try a search for the file DME_AUM, or downlaod the one piece download from the main download section
