    Additional Mercenary Minimod

    version 1.4 for TATW 3.2
    (and all mods that do not alter the same files)







    Concept and Considerations of AMM

    TATW will not be a less fun place if we have some more mercenary units to strenghten our armies - but the opposit!
    I've been really careful though to not risk to upset balance in this minimod - since I've tested submods that added a lot of mercenaries before and they always twisted the game greatly and in my opinion not in a constructive way.
    Therefore in AMM it's restricted to additional mercenaries in limited amount and limited avilability.

    To make sure it shall work with as many submods as possible I have avoided to add any units not currently mercs in the TATW rosters.

    Unit: Silvan Volunteers (Silvan Sword Mercs) 610:-
    Region and quantity: Mirkwood, max 2
    Cultures: Elves, Northmen


    Unit: Rohan Volunteers (Rohan Rider Mercs) 830:-
    Region and quantity: Rohan, max 2
    Cultures: Northmen, D˙nedain


    Unit: Orc Volunteers (Mordor Orcs Mercs) 510:-
    Region and quantity: Mordor, max 2
    Cultures: Followers of Morgoth


    Unit: Goblin Volunteers (Goblin Orcs Mercs) 480:-
    Region and quantity: Misty Mountains and Isengard, max 2 in both
    Cultures: Followers of Morgoth

    Upkeeps and stats are the same as for the vanilla units. Max quantity = max amount in queue at the same time.
    Names in brackets are the vanilla TATW name.

    Open descr_mercenaries.txt in data/world/maps/campaign/imperial campaign

    Files in this mod descr_mercenaries.txt
    export_units.txt

    Permission Free for anyone to use this in mods and compalitions.
    Just add credits and don't mind telling, since it's fun to know.

    OBS - if to be released as the bulk of a submod, with only minor edits, then a proper description of this is requested.



    Installation

    1) If v1.4 is to be used with other submods, first make sure those do not alter descr_mercenaries.txt or export_units.txt, or it will not be compatible

    2) Download AMM v1.4 for TATW 3.2.rar

    3) Extract the .rar into the Third_Age_3-folder found in .../Medieval II Total War/mods
    (or equivalent folder for your Third Age-install if you use Steam)

    Accept overwrite

    5) Start the game and a new campaign. Enjoy!

    Shouldn't some units, like blackroot archers and rohan riders, be avaiable to all "good" factions instead of just their legit ones?

    I think that is a very good point, If a faction should lose many of its settlements and another good faction moves in, I think they should be able to recruit those same mercs. And the same for the evil factions as well. That may already be the case when using "catholic" as the culture identifier, since If I remember correctly, evil factions are all catholic.

    Will make an elaboration on this part soon, but as a rule same upkeep while a tad more expensive to buy.

    Re-vamped the files, added a lot more details in the OP and made a MOS-compatible version

    EDIT: Ops, in case anybody was quick and got AMM v1.3 for MOS.rar then I saw a flaw (non-critical but cost for Blackroot archers is to high) and dispatched it in favour of version AMM v1.3.1 for MOS.rar

    Good day Ngugi, Just had a quick question, want to make sure that the model.db doesn't need to change at all and will any of these units be re-trainable and not just upgradeable? Will apply this minimod as soon as I get my current playtesting campaign finished. This is to be included in the next MOS release yes? In any case I will add it to the expanded map version with your permission of course.

    Nothing has to be altered, that was an important guideline to me making this; why I only used existing mercs
    Be my guest here & now, and if the crew concurs we add it in MOS later versions ofc

    Doh! haha
    Made a tweak on prices for the vanilla version that was way to high (it got intermingled with MOS prices) and made sure the Gondor and Rohan mercs can be recruted of both D˙nedain and Northmen. So now 1.2.1 is out and shall be the last

    Looks good Ngugi. +Rep. But there's something I want to say:

    -The Eldar will surely not become some mercs that kill people for money. Maybe the Quendi could be the High Elven merc.

    -There is no Rhun or Harad mers. I understand that Orcs of Gundabad did not have any mercs, since the OotMM had, because they are almost identical factions, but Rhun and Harad!

    -I suppose there is no Dale mercs because there is the Dale Cavalry mercenaries already.

    Well that's it.
    (yeah, yeah, I'm fin player of TATW 3.2...

    Thanks B'!

    - Reason why the patch change the titles to Volunteers; the "merc" title is just unfitting.
    To maximize compability was a prio of mine, and to use Quendi would required to change the EDU and so forth to make merc-versions, and did not want that; least currently.
    I base the concept on the support the Northern D˙nedain got earlier during Third Age, albeight it was a while ago hehe. Still the replenish rate is very slow so it will still not be the most common support to lay hands on

    - OoG already have a bunch of Rhudaur mercs around so don't need more and Rhun & Harad is left out from a balance reason.
    Beside the normal Khand cavalry merc unit Harad have a lot of heavy mercs avilable at home as soon as Invasion kicks in (in difference to all other evil factions) and just as with Rhűn they really do not need it from a strategic and economic perspective.
    Especially Rhun (who leats have two fronts normally) get so much money they can go zergswarm on the foes fast enough hehe, they don't need to get more help with that!

    - Yes, the area south of Dale is already filled with Rhovanion mercs :
