    I have spent weeks now and I am beginning to give up. I am begging for your help. I do not want to give up, but i am now at my witts end. I have gone back to 1.0 back to 1.5 and installed in so many different folders and backed up everything dozens of times. If I keep the soilder name the same like this....

    This works

    type elite roman velite
    dictionary elite_roman_velite ; Velites

    category infantry
    class missile
    voice_type Light_1
    soldier roman_velite, 40, 0, 0.8
    mount_effect elephant +6, chariot +6
    attributes sea_faring, hide_improved_forest, hide_long_grass, can_sap

    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 2, 3, 2, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh

    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 270, 170, 30, 40, 270
    ownership roman

    This works but now its the dictionary name that is making it work never my custom name.
    type elite_roman_velite
    skeleton fs_fast_javelinman, fs_fast_dagger ; throwing spear/javelin & short sword
    indiv_range 40
    texture romans_julii, data/models_unit/textures/unit_roman_peasant_julii.tga

    model_tri 400, 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f

    I have even duplicated the cas. files and renamed them to elite_firing_velites_high low med ect.

    What am I doing wrong.

    I have now tried dozens of times on 1.0 1.3 and 1.5

    Please help me modding gods.

    So let me get this straight. What you want to do, is to use the same model as the velites, just make them stronger?

    Hi. Thank you for replying

    I used that just as an example of what is giving me problems. I cant add my own units, only create duplicate units with different type names and dictionary names to seperate them. As soon as I touch
    the soldier details in the descr_model_battle I get a ctd unable to find soilder but the soldier is right there in the descr_model_battle file clear as day. I am loosing my hair.

    Well, if you are going to just use the same model as another unit already existing, you might aswell just stick to pointing to them in the Export_Descr_unit, as that will give the same result, no point in create a new unit description in descr_model_battle if you already got it there. However, if you are making your own models to use in the game, then it might be something wrong with the model you have made (no offense intended).

    None taken. Actually thank you for the idea, but its not that. I have now days later on this particular problem got it to sort of work. I just got it to work in 1.0 and i copied it over to 1.5 folder and now its working. I do not know what is going on this is insane. People who mod this game to the heights of xgm or roma surrectum or eb or all the other awesome ones must have the patience of saints.

    Hmmmmmmm,

    I think a major problem is with windows 7 itself and its pesky double check and triple check user friendly system. I believe even though I was editing files it really wasnt overwriting somehow. Now I have versions installed in my documents where there is no protection system and it seems to have solved the problem.

    Another part of the solution seems to be to fully remove using the 1.3 patch first and then erase all recycling bin items, turn of system restore save points and seek and destroy all temporary storage spots that windows uses to make your experience more stable and predictable.

    Also..... your total war setups must be completely removed, many times mods leave folders behind, also I even switched my main folder from activsion to random names so windows couldnt possibly confuse it with my previous thousand RTW installs. My new installs are in my documents under rtw 1.5 folder and rtw 1.0 folder.

    It seems somehow windows was saving maybe temp versions and not truly accepting my multiple and repeated edits..... also I paid the price for not restarting. Windows needs to be restarted I think with each and every single medium to large change to your file systems in any way. Every install restart every uninstall erase everything and restart then change main folder names and locations to new folder names and locations......

    Just some very friendly advice.... please do everything and anything to your system with your own judgment and at your own risk and assume your own personal responsibility for your actions.

    Well, it seems that there is a problem in text file. Did you add the title like this:

    {elite_roman_velite} Roman Elite Velite

    {elite_roman_velite_descr}
    Expert at Hiding in Forests\nCan Sap\nExpert at Hiding in Long Grass\n\nRoman Elite Velites are much better than the other velites. They can aim better, and they can also hide in forests or long grass. They can also sap.

    {elite_roman_velite_descr_short}
    Elite Velites are supporting the heavy infantry in the battle, and they are very useful.

    I have type a random text down. You have to wrtie down it's ability first, something like "Expert at Hiding in Forests\nCan Sap\nExpert at Hiding in Long Grass\n\n". After it, you should type in a random text like "Roman Elite Velites are much better than the other velites. They can aim better, and they can also hide in forests or long grass. They can also sap.". Then you should type down the short description what will appear in the custom battles like "Elite Velites are supporting the heavy infantry in the battle, and they are very useful.".

    So that's all, if you have still got the problem, upload the files and I'll have a lookout what is wrong there.

    I got it to work, it just basically started working. Its a problem with windows 7. Once I installed my folders into my documents things ran much smoother. Windows 7 C:\Program Files (x86) folders are write protected and even overwriting wasnt truly solving the problem. By uninstalling everything and using additional programs to truly destroy all ares of my pc with temp files related to my previous rtw installs - then re-installing to non write protected folders seemed to solve the problem.

    You may find me bugging you at some point for additional help... thats your fault for helping lol. jk

    Thank you very much for replying.
