I have to say though, there are many offensive things in Facebook that are just left there, and the line for which something becomes 'offensive' can be a bit hazy, though this cartoon in question is offensive.

Well that would be political bias.

Austria and Bavaria (Catholic Germany) was historically the most anti Semitic. The otherwise great Maria Theresa was pretty much a foaming anti-Semite.

Hitler was of course... Austrian. Just because he had a Prussian fetish doesn't mean the Prussians had anything in common with the Nazis except a taste for sharp looking uniforms and an intimidating goose step. Geographically speaking Fascism was a Catholic thing. Not that Protestants don't hate Jews.

Prussia despite being stereotyped as extremely Militant was the forward looking intellectual tolerant soul of Germany. The military was massive primarily to fight the knuckle head Austrians, French, Russians, and Swedes who encircled them.

So the idea that the Austrian right is stronger than the German right should come as no surprise.

Funny thing is I think they are so ingrained with the idea that "evil banker = Jew" that it wasn't meant to actually TARGET Jews, it was just a product of their every day thinking of a caricature of a banker.

I think that's giving them an awful lot of undeserved benefit of the doubt.

Perhaps, but I would bet if you gave the world a paper and pencil and said "draw a evil banker" a very large % would have characterized Jewish features, even in those not thinking about Jews in particular.

I sincerely doubt that. It's not as if many people are unaware what an anti-Semitic cartoon looks like, let alone a neo-nazi group. Not sure why you're providing the case for the defence.

I'd agree with this, though I'd narrow it down to Europe and the Middle East.

To an extent I'm not sure how intrinsically Jewish these stereotypes are. It's only offensive to depict Jews as weaselly rat faced scoundrels because they're Jews. I'd probably draw a crook as weasle faced regardless. A pointed nose, beady eyes, and that whole rat look are pretty much how I would depict a bad guy. It has nothing to do with Jews. Jews were drawn like that because they were associated with that character. Hell, I think Taylor Swift looks like a ferret, but that's not a bad thing.

Although Ahmadinejad is a Jew ethnically.

(The Irony that's he denying the holocaust and looking like a Jewish steretype.)

No one is complaining that's anti semitic. They're just exaggerating his features and making him look more like a nefarious rodent.

I mean when people were drawing Bush as a monkey it was okay, they were just calling him stupid, but when they draw Obama as a chimp it's offensive because blacks have been depicted that way in the past.

It shouldn't be. Drawing someone with apish features makes them look foolish, not like a black person. That's why they drew black people like that. That's why they drew the Irish like that... That's why the draw politicians like that.

Protestants in general have been more progressive historically than Catholics. Protestants were a departure from the complex Church politics of many clergies, bishops, papacy, etc. Catholic church was more intertwined with politics and that in turn led to such things.

Lampooner,s always exagerate their targets. Princes and Kings would hang them on a regular basis for their unflattering sketches.
I suppose Lord Mov some branches of the Protestant movement were progressive, Other,s were and are most certainly not.
Anyway if the Austrians want to post pictures of Jewish Banker,s Goldblum and Diamond would be more up to date, Rather than a Dickensian Fagin character.Or shakespere,s Shylock.
Of course they might get their asses sued?
Anti semitism was rife in the aristocracy of Europe including Britain up until the middle of the 20th century.
I can even remember golf clubs in Britain in the 1960,s which would not allow a member of the Jewish faith to join.
So despite what society likes to portray there are many skeletons in the closets.

Those Ahmadinejad cartoons are caricatures of an individual, not a stereotype of a group.

In Iran, one nickname for Ahmadinejad is "meymoon" which means "monkey"
