Default Does vassalizing a faction count as destroying it?

Well, I'm playing a mod as England, and one of my objectives is destroying Scotland. Instead, I made them my vassals, and don't really wanna finish them, they seem so cute with their 2 settlements on the north...

So, will I have to end the happiness in the highlands?

I am not sure, but since they could still rise up against you, they aren't destroyed. Their lands do count for your victory conditions, though.

Are you familiar with the National Anthem?

    Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
    May by thy mighty aid,
    Victory bring.
    May he sedition hush,
    and like a torrent rush,
    Rebellious Scots to crush,
    God save the King.
It's not used any more, though I think tradition should be kept...

Kill them. Kill them all and then wait for some SNP to romanticise everything and undo one of the most influential and important unions in history. That's for another debate.

    Scotland isn't 'cute'.

I believe it counts as destroying them, I'm not 100% sure though

And let's not forget that if I attack them I'll get a huge reputation penalty.

It doesn't count as 'eliminating' the faction so you won't achieve the victory conditions unless you destroy them completely. When I played as Hungary (Short Campaign Conditions) I made the HRE my vassal and I did not win (I destroyed Poland btw). I didn't want to attack my own vassals but I did it anyways and I won the game. However their lands do count towards your total settlement count. I make only those who I'm not entitled to destroy as my vassals.

So yes, you will have to end the happiness in the highlands

EDIT: Just cancel your alliance and everything else with them and you'll get a lesser reputation penalty.

Or wait until they're the ONLY remaining victory condition, because once you win, reputation no longer matters! hahaha. Assuming you don't keep playing.

They'll betray you in a few turns.

I made Milan my protectorate, bad mistake.
