    Default New Computer Help

To help speed up the process, it would very much help if people asking for new build advice would fill out the following questions and paste into their new rig thread.

    Please Fill Out
    1. Why are you upgrading?
-Do you intend to use this computer for a media center, gaming rig, productivity, office, development, etc. -Where does your old one fail?

    2. What is your budget?
      -Your budget in local currency.

    3. Where do you live?
-No need to be overly specific, just general regions so we can determine pricing and parts availability.

    4. Can you build this computer yourself, or do you need to buy prebuilt?
-If your computer building skills are adequate, this is important as it will save money. If not, you can purchase prebuilt, for a higher price.
-If you're upgrading, you'll likely need to perform the upgrades yourself.

    5. What are you current system specs?
-If you don't know, Windows+R and type "dxdiag" without the quotes. You should be able to find the information there.

    6. What screen resolution will you be using?
-On Windows XP - Control Panel>Display>Settings will display this.
-For Vista/7/8 you can just right click on your desktop.

    7. What websites/stores can you purchase parts from?
-Please link to websites/stores that you can purchase from, so we can gather exact specifications and pricing.

    8. Do you need to purchase peripherals?
-Do you already own mice, keyboards, monitors, operating system, etc.

    9. When do you plan to buy this computer/parts?
-If you answer now, we'll be able to find you specific parts and deals to fit into your budget better.
-If not we'll simply give you a parts list.

For anyone asking for build advice, filling this out first would be extremely helpful and will ensure faster responses. Also, please do not post in this thread for build advice, it's better if you make your own thread to keep things coordinated. Happy building!

As an Addendum - If you lack the skills to make your own system then it is entirely possible to save money by buying the base components from other sources and taking them to a local Ma'and'Pa store for them to assemble. While it will be more expensive than building it on your own it will also be less expensive than buying a pre-built and upgrading from there. You also gain more control of your build as the smaller stores need to keep the customer happy. They'll listen to your needs and make suggestions based upon those needs. Just don't let them sell you something you haven't already determined you need to have. Good luck!

I'm wanting to upgrade my pc, I was wondering if you could point out any obvious or worthwhile upgrades?

My pc plays crysis, skyrim stw2 on high settings for reference but I want to keep up with graphics upgrades in the future.

    1. Why are you upgrading?
gaming and watching media. I bought my PC off a site which allowed me to customise it myself, I'm passably computer literate and but way off plenty of the people on this site, I wanted to know if I should have bought an increased power output supply, or a better cooling system for example when I've played long sessions of skyrim my pc shut down from overheating. This is obviously something I would prefer to avoid.
    2. What is your budget?
£150, but wouldn’t want to invest in something which would only give an incremental increase in performance or be obsolete quickly.
    3. Where do you live?
    England
    4. Can you build this computer yourself, or do you need to buy prebuilt?
    I’m willing to upgrade myself.
    5. What are you current system specs?

    PRODUCT Gallant AMD 4100
CPU: AMD FX 6100 Black Edition

    Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA Included
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB Included
    6. What screen resolution will you be using?
    1280 x 1024
    7. What websites/stores can you purchase parts from?
Unsure as it’s my first time upgrading, currys and pcworld are nearby.
    8. Do you need to purchase peripherals?
    No
    9. When do you plan to buy this computer/parts?
    As soon as.

Hello, I have a computer that is able to run shogun on the full ultra graphics, everything on the max.

My graphics card is nvidia GeForce 500 or something higher(sorry I'm currently not close to my comp, so I can't tell you specifically). I think I have an i7 dual core. Ram is 8 gb. That is the max info I can give you.

Can you please tell me, what should I buy for my computer( in the future, I'm planning to buy at December 2013)? Please. I think I have a budget about 500 euro. I want to buy 1 component for my comp, can you please guide me in the correct direction? What do you think my computer will require the most to play Rome 2 on very good graphics? Thank you in advance.

Find out which 500 series card you have specifically, if you have an i7 its a quad core and likely more then enough.
I suppose i should have some sort of sig here.
