Default Is it possible to land on an island with ships garrisoned?

I'm playing as GB and I'm trying to take Malta since it is one of my victory regions. Malta has only one port, which they have garrisoned with ships. Whenever I try to land my troops anywhere on the coastline, it says that the path is blocked by those garrisoned ships. How do I get around that?

You can enter their zone of control without being attacked if your force is strong enough, and then land your army on their coast rather than their port. The army won't be able to move until the next term though.

No matter where I try to land on the coastline, it says that my path is blocked by their garrisoned ships. Even if I try to land on the other side of the island. My force should be strong enough I think. I have 4 heavy first rates, 2 fourth rates, 2 sixth rates, and a brig. The enemy has 8 sixth rates and 2 trade ships garrisoned.

Also, sorry if this is a really stupid and obvious question. This is my first time playing through and I can't for the life of me figure out how to land.

Edit: Unless you were referring to the army force. In that case, it should still be strong enough. I have 10 line infantry, 3 heavy cavalry, 6 24 pound howitzers, and a general. They have 2 line infantry, one cavalry, and a few militia.

Have you tried right clicking with your fleet with your army on the town, as if to attack it on land? That sometimes bypasses it for me.

Or, as another user said, use one ship to blockade the port, and on the same turn drop your army off.

This MAY cause a battle through interception though if you send only one ship... FYI.
You cannot pick and choose what to follow from your holy books. If you are truly a Christian, you must follow the bible by the letter. One read through Leviticus, where the disabled are barred from Church attendance, and homosexuals should be the least of your worry. It's the whole book or none of it, and to follow the whole book is to be immoral.
    So it goes.
