Default Sword of the Stars 2 still broken?

I loved the original SotS, and despite its age I still play it, it being almost the only representative of its sadly neglected genre. I have heard terrible things about SotS 2, but most relate to its bugginess and missing interface or text. Given the length of time that has passed, it could within reason be fixed now, into a presumably decent game. Is it? If not, as the entire series died an ignoble death?

I think this game is in a state not unlike Master of Orion 3 where its just broken and bad and wont ever be good unless a major overhaul is done in an expansion pack. It was obvious this was the case at release and still is now.

Well thats disappointing. Loved SOTS1 too. Couldn't even work out how to play SOTS2 because of the UI and interuptions from bugs. I should probably stop my friend buying it then.

I bought it when it was on sale for a fiver; I've played maybe 10 hours max. I just got fed up of the very obvious bugs, albeit It might be better as of late, I'm not sure.

Play endless space, its a similar 4x game but its actually really good.

Combat in it is simplified like Galciv 2 though but its more involved in that you give indirect orders. The non combat aspects are really fleshed out like a civilization game.

The only thing noticeably lacking in SoTS2 at this point is the AI. It might also be missing one of the grand menaces too (the peacekeeper enforcer which is admittedly nonrandom unlike most of the other...random encounters or menaces).

A few of us are contemplating an MP game in the SoTS2 thread as this would circumvent things like the AI's perplexing diplomatic decisions and lack of peacetime planning for war.

So I assume that the previously missing things were patched in after any of the other posters played the game then. Is there an active playerbase or would I have to arrange games against people I know?

Well SOTS1 had about 10 games running most of the time up until SOTS2 release. So, um maybe?

    Don't bother.
It is still mess and work poorly. AI is retarded and cheat openly.
It is in much more better state than on release but still not good enough.
Wait until expansion hit(if it hit) the shore.

I hope this doesn't screw Kerebos. As a company I really like them. Pretty active on their own forums (in more then a moderator way, they've created a church to the head of the team), play their own games etc.
I just don't know what went wrong.

LOL found a funny post I made about this game.

Basically at release they made this game released one patch then decided to go on a vacation. I was FURIOUS and demanded my money back in an earlier post because the game was absolutely not working at all, then had legions of fanboys saying we should thank them for releasing the game and for their hard work. This is what I typed

Really? So you think that us giving them our money and they not fixing the issues is right? In fact its totally immoral! But I guess you are the type to just eat a sandwich, gladly, because it was given to you by someone you paid. I mean if you bought soup at a restaurant and it had a maggot in there you would GLADLY eat it, thank the waiter, and slurp up that maggot willfully then lick their boots on the way out to give it a spit shine.

Also they did NOT work 50 hours straight, get your facts right fanboy.

If this was a Microsoft or EA release the company would be CRUCIFIED. In fact Vista was fairly broken but NO WHERE NEAR this and it very nearly came to that.

I paid for a proper working game. I PAID for that so that is what I expect to get. You might of paid to lick boots but I did not.
I am tired of people defending game companies that just give you garbage and act like the company is doing us a favor. People don't know how reality works and how software companies work outside of the game industry. Poor work = you dont get paid or possibly sued.

Now i'm sure the game is much better but the fact remains this game was TERRIBLE at release and is likely still broken. I don't see a game recovering from that at all unless it had a major overhaul. Easily the most broken and terrible game of this year i've played and the most broken and unfinished game i've played since Master of Orion 3.

I hope this doesn't screw Kerebos
Why? They have been proven themselves to be an inept game company who lies about their products. They are like the Manga Mundi team if that dev team had no oversight and was just allowed to release MM.

The very least they could of done is have a open beta preorder so things could get fixed and people KNEW they were buying a beta, or in this games state at the time an alpha.

    Exactly this.
MECRON become god in his own universe surrounded by blinded by faith(in him) acolytes.
I was active on this forum too. In old SotS times. Writing TARs arguing with people and have fun.
So I witness how much hardcore fanboyism it turn. Especially for moderators.
Any form of critique is taken as a personal attack. You can't discus with them or argue because there is no point - THEY KNOW BETTER.
It reach a silly level when some of their fanboys tell that every one 4x game is a SotS clone.

They've created a church to the head of the team, play their own games etc.
    Guess what? It went wrong.

    Fixed for you.

I hope this do screw Kerberos.
    Fixed again.
Yes I hope. There is lack of good 4x games on market but there is no need for a company who lie to the consumers. Especially in that retarded way.
    So let them burn.

Kanaric being furious doesn't mean much though. He goes on a tangent for pretty much every other game.
It's especially funny when he starts his rants about MP-gaming, which are usually the exact opposite of what everyone wants.
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

New game, last update, patch 1.0.22773.2; turn 257, Jax map,six players: not a single crash, one session, a short interval between turns, diplomacy works, AI works. A great game.
I can imagine no more comfortable frame of mind for the conduct of life than a humorous resignation.
