Default Oil and Blood: A TWC-Driven AAR for ArmA II [Update September 9, 2012] (SUSPENDED)

August 2011. The Arab Spring is sweeping through the Middle East. As governments topple, the people take charge of their own destiny.

Two months ago the Oil Workers Union in the employ of the RusTak Oil Company went on strike to demand higher wages to compensate for the increase in the prices of day-to-day commodities. Those in the industrial sector of the country were finding it harder and harder to feed their families on the wages paid by RusTak.

Just as swiftly as the strike began, the CEO and founder of RusTak; Vasiliy “Tex” Abramovich, called in his personal army of mercenaries from Global Security Services to crush the strike. The Army of Takistan stood silent as Western Guns called in by the ethnic Russian-Jew born in North East Takistan rode roughshod over the strikers in Loy Manara and Nagara. Cheap labor from neighboring Ardistan was then brought in to work the oil fields.

Meanwhile in the agrarian areas of the country, rumblings of mullahs preaching tighter, more traditional Islamic laws over the country began to emerge. The agrarian areas around Zargabad and in the valleys of North East Takistan were not feeling the pinch of the commodities inflation, they were however disturbed by the reports that Western Mercenaries had been brought into the country and had committed acts of violence against Muslims while the Army did nothing to defend them. The fact that these mercenaries were brought in by a Jew only stirred the hornet’s nest more.

Takistan has been at peace since the Socialist Coup succeeded in 1992, but with the fall of its greatest benefactor; the Soviet Union, Takistan has moved further adrift from its socialist design. The country’s riches are under the control of one man who simultaneously owns his own army and for the time being, the actual army. The agrarian heart of the country is becoming more and more radicalized. The educated industrial workers are now without jobs and without government representation. The army is run by a power hungry madman who is rumored to indulge in unspeakable perversions.

The Socialists seek to return to the way things were in the previous decade. The Islamists see an opportunity to bring paradise to Takistan. The Oil Tycoon will do whatever is profitable and could be swayed if profits fall. The Army will support its General, and he is for sale to the highest bidder.

    ------------------------------------------------------------FACTIONS------------------------------------------------------------

The RusTak Oil Company was founded in 1985 by Takistan-born, ethnic Russian-Jew, Vasiliy Abramovich aka Tex . The company has weathered the fall of the Monarchy in 1992 and the subsequent Socialist takeover of the oil industry. RusTak was spared nationalization because no one else in the country had expertise in the energy field. However, RusTak had to make the concession to allow the oil workers to unionize. Through financial and managerial wizardry, the company has managed to dominate the Green Sea Region energy production market. They now control all oil and gas fields in Takistan along with the refining facilities, the export facility in the Capital-Port City of Takmyr and all of the pipelines. The gas pipeline that runs north from the county to Russia provides an economic tie to the powerful northern neighbor. RusTak recently signed an offshore oil development partnership with British Petroleum.

Global Security Services is a contracted company that has been providing security for RusTak for over 15 years. The firm was founded by Soviet Afghan War Veterans in 1994 and is now staffed by multiple nationalities. Many Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans have found high paying jobs protecting the oil fields of Takistan. They field the latest small arms and are rumored to have ties in the CIA. The extent of heavy weapons capability is unknown.

The Army of Takistan has grown softer over these 2 decades of peace. The Generals have been pushed out by the defacto head of the country; General Ahmed Ahmed Sakr. Rumors are that most of the Old Guard from the 1992 Coup have either been killed or bought off and shipped off. The army fields a mix of late 1980s military equipment. M113 APCs and Huey Helicopters will be seen beside T-55 MBTs and Hind Attack helicopters. General Sakr is said to favor artillery for conventional conflicts and employs his own Special Squads for smaller, more personal conflicts. Takistan sent a detachment of infantry to Afghanistan in 2007 to fight alongside the British and Dutch troops in Helmand Province. It is believed that the troops that were sent are now serving in this special unit. No official reports about these men have ever surfaced from Afghanistan, all that is know is that their deployment area was and still is very quiet.

The Socialist Party of Takistan or Red Hats; derived from the Arabic acronym for the political party and their socialist ideals. Were the leading political party to come out of the 1992 Coup. Most everyone that joined the party was a fighter on the front line against the Monarchy. They settled down and went to work in the oil and gas fields and have remained content since the 1992 peace. When commodities exploded as a result of western inflationary policies, the workers demanded a higher wage. This demand was refused and the workers struck. The GSS intervened and broke the strike. At present many are conducting guerrilla operations in and around Nagara, Bastam and Zargabad. They are poorly equipped and barely organized, but they may be the last hope for Takistan to return to it's former peace and prosperity.

The Islamic Brotherhood of Takistan is not organized at present. They have support as a small political party in the agrarian communities south of Zargabad and in the rural valleys of the country. A handful of the hard line militants have spent stints in Iraq and Afghanistan, but they could hardly be categorized as a terrorist group or legitimate movement. However, support has been growing ever since Muslim blood was spilled by western mercenaries in Loy Manara and Nagara.

    Press Release August 8th 2011
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

From: The Office of the Minister of Information
To: Foreign Press Agencies in Takistan

    Attention:
The Ministry confirms that military forces in the service of the Arab Republic of Takistan were engaged by domestic terrorist elements on the morning of the 5th of August.

These attacks come mere months after Socialist elements ceased work in the oil fields to gain higher wages. That strike was put down and it is believed that these elements are responsible for a campaign of violence in several of the industrialized areas of the country.

Until this weekend attacks within the country had proven to be ineffective at best. It is believed that forces seeking to impose an Islamic Republic upon the people of Takistan have started their own campaign to destabilize the country.

In the western part of the region nearly twenty enemy combatants were slain in contrast to zero fatalities for the Government forces.

The Army has responded by tightening security around the western valleys. In addition to this; 2 Companies of Takistani Commandos have been recalled from Kunar Province in Afghanistan. The mobile reserves have also been put on alert.

At this time the Ministry would like to assure its partners around the globe that at no time has the oil production of the country been threatened and the Army of Takistan is working diligently with RusTak to ensure that every precaution is made to continue to provide a steady flow of energy to Russia, the EU and the United States.

    AP Newswire Green Sea Region

The Associated Press is feverishly attempting to confirm or deny that major events have occurred within the Northeastern region of Takistan. Reports from various internet sites are claiming that violence has rocked the remote, oil producing area.

Two major events are being talked about at length over local message boards and social media sites.

It is believed that a major raid resulting in significant damage to the RusTak Local HQ near Nagara took place after dawn on Sunday. Some sources are claiming that a black helicopter was brought down near the Nagara oil fields during the fighting. Global Security Services is believed to use Russian Ka-60 helicopters painted in a black color scheme. No official word on whether or not the helicopter was indeed brought down or suffered from mechanical malfunction.

In Bastam a major gunfight broke out between locals near the Sultan Mahmud Mosque. Several casualties have been reported and it is believed that Sheikh Khaled Qareem Khan is among the dead.

Please standby for an official confirmation from the government or an exclusive report from AP/24 Global Watch reporter, John Swift.

At this time, the AP can confirm that the West has taken an interest in what is now being touted as the latest extension of the Arab Spring. The Pentagon has confirmed that the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit has moved into the Green Sea and that observers from the United States Marine Corps have been sent to Takistan from the USS Kearsarge.

The British Ministry of Defense has no plan to cancel or move exercises in the Western section of the country. These exercises, code named Green Sea Trust; are designed as a final workup for British troops headed to Afghanistan. 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment is currently in training at Joint Training Base-Nasdara in preparation for Op Herrick 12.

AP will continue to follow developments pertaining to this story within Takistan and around the globe.

From: The Office of the Minister of Information
To: Foreign Press Agencies in Takistan

    Attention:
The Ministry can confirm that several attacks resulting in widespread destruction of government and private property have taken place in the cities of Sakhe, Bastam and Nagara.

Islamic Extremists have murdered Sheikh Khaled Qareem Khan in his residence near the Sultan Mahmud Mosque in Bastam.

Major Hazim Kadri of the 2nd Company, 3rd Airborne Battalion has been confirmed dead along with most of his command in the town of Sakhe. Several Takistani civilians were also killed in the fighting and the town of Sakhe has been left badly damaged.

Major Kadri is survived by his 3 sons, daughter and wife.

A major insurrection has taken place in the village of Mulladoost and Takistani Forces have withdrawn to the east in preparation to retake the village.

The Minister is pleased to announce that the United States Marine Corps has agreed to embed observers with several Takistani Army units. The Americans are here to see how effective the Takistani Army is at operating in a counter-insurgency.

The Marine Commander of the 26th MEU has offered to loan an ANGLICO Fire Control Team to the Takistani Special Forces for training purposes prior to joint operations with the British Army in Nasdara. The Minister is pleased to accept this offer and is certain the Marines and Takistani Special Forces will provide one another with valuable training for fighting the Global War on Terror.

The Ministry acknowledges that security at the Nagara Oil Production facility lapsed and that several GSS Contractors and RusTak employees were killed or injured in the attack there. The Army and GSS have significantly boosted security around all RusTak facilities and the Takistani Army-Air Force will be on-call and at the disposal of GSS should another attack take place.

Repairs to the Nagara facility have been underway since the end of the attack and are near 80% complete.

    AP Newswire Green Sea Region

The AP has confirmed through official Pentagon sources that four United States Marines were killed yesterday by insurgents belonging to the Islamic Brotherhood of Takistan. The names of the fallen Marines are not being released at this time but AP can confirm that the bodies have been returned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit currently located in the Green Sea. The Pentagon has also confirmed that all US personal have been withdrawn from Takistan as a result of the heavy fighting and the inability of the Takistani Army to provide security for US forces.

In a related incident, thirteen British servicemen from the 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment were killed when the bus in which they were travelling was destroyed by an improvised explosive device outside of Nasdara. All 13 were returning from exercises being conducted at the Joint Training Center in Nasdara. In response to the attacks on uniformed NATO personnel within Takistan, the Prime Minister contacted the President of the United States to ask for assistance. From what the AP can gather, all personnel from 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment were evacuated to the 26th MEU via US Marine Corps aircraft.

There has not been an official statement concerning the details of the evacuation but rumors point to a complete shutdown of Takistani airspace while the evacuation took place. Essentially the US enforced a no-fly-zone over Takistan with orders to engage any contacts that threatened the extraction of British Forces from Takistan.

The MoD has dispatched a number of vessels to the region including HMS Ocean along with a large contingent of Royal Marines. It is expected that 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment will be based aboard the American flotilla until the Royal Navy flotilla can reach the Green Sea. The MoD also confirms that the United Kingdom has no desire to withdraw British forces from the Green Sea and that the scheduled deployment for the Paras will be covered by extending the ongoing deployment of 3rd Battalion, The Rifles into Op Herrick 12.

With these developments the US and UK have a combined reinforced regiment of troops ready to strike into Takistan if the situation demands it.

However, neither country has brought forth proposals to the UN for approval.

In response to these attacks the Kremlin has ordered all border crossings with Takistan to be closed. Russian nationals will be allowed to cross but for now refugees are being turned away. Russia is enforcing this closure with units from the 49th Army and has stated "Any attempt at a breach into Russia will be met with force".

The AP will continue to follow all developments within Takistan.

    Government Decree August 22nd 2011
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

From: The Office of the Minister of Information
    To: The People of Takistan

    Attention:
On the morning of August 19th, an Army of Takistan column was dispatched to quell the uprising in the rural town of Mulladost. The column was met with fierce resistance as the entire town was populated by insurgent forces intent on overthrowing the Government of Takistan. Dozens of brave soldiers were slain by this ruthless enemy and no quarter was given. The Commander of the Army issued an order to use heavy artillery on the town to dislodge the rebels. The uprising has been stopped and the rebels have been denied a safe haven.

After the bombardment a relief column was dispatched to Mulladost in pursuit of any fleeing rebel forces. This column continued to Khushab where a dozen Takistani Army personnel were found murdered and stripped of all uniforms and equipment. The village of Khushab had been harboring rebel forces and as such met the same fate as Mulladost.

The Government of the Republic of Takistan hereby declares that all internet and phone communication is closed unless granted special access by the Ministry of Information. All facilities have been closed and all passwords to communications equipment have been changed and stored in the Ministry of Information.

The Government of the Republic of Takistan offers rewards and clemency for any rebel fighter or informant to their cause.

The cities of Shapur, Nasdara, Rasman, Bastam, Feruz Abad, Takmyr and Zargabad and their surrounding areas are declared Government Green Zones and all citizens that wish to reside within these areas must submit to searches of homes and all firearms must be surrendered to the Special Operations Group. Martial law will take effect in these towns following the finalization of the turn in process and clearance of homes to be conducted on Monday the 27th of August. On that date these cities will be closed and access in and out will only be granted to authorized citizens, there will not be a curfew within these Green Zone cities but travel in and out is not advised. Your Government intends to keep you safe from the rebel forces.

Refugees from areas outside of those listed are advised to pack what belongings they can and head for the Government/International Aid camps closest to them. The government requests that all weapons be turned in when refugees arrive at the ports of entry. Citizens may opt to have the government purchase these weapons or turn them in for safe keeping until the insurgency is defeated. We do not wish to see the rightfully held weapons of farmers and shop keepers fall into the hands of the rebels.

All cities, towns and villages outside of these named areas are now effectively under martial law. Citizens that wish to remain may not congregate in more than groups of 3 and no one is to be on the street from dusk to dawn.

The Ministry recommends that citizens do their best to leave the rural areas and those affected by the fighting and seek shelter in the Government Green Zones.

    Press Release August 26th 2011
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    AP Newswire Green Sea Region

The AP has confirmed through official Pentagon sources that hostilities within Takistan have reached a tipping point. What one US Army General called "...the majority of the remaining Takistani armor and mechanized forces left in the north of the country" were spent in an effort to crush the Islamist strongholds of Zavarak and Karachinar. Many officers have expressed concern over what they watched live over satellite feeds from circling Predator Drones and Spy Satellites tasked to the area. The Takistani Air Force unleashed nearly all that it could alongside the huge armored thrust into the town and it appears that the Islamist Rebels have claimed a victory through survival.

One Marine Officer was in disbelief that anyone could survive the onslaught of air power and armor stating "...a jet would come in and drop a clusterbomb or 2000 pounder on a building complex to support the armor and you'd think the enemy would have been killed but as soon as the dust would settle, up would pop an insurgent with an RPG and another tank or APC would be lost".

The NATO forces in the Green Sea were not on alert during the fighting but the Pentagon is stirring after news from the USS Kidd confirming that a SCUD B ballistic missile was shot down as it was intercepted over Chernarussian air space. It is believed that this missile was headed for the largest city in Chernarus; Chernogorsk. A NEST Team from Russia was dispatched immediately to the scene and the Kremlin has confirmed that this missile was indeed armed with what was a warhead between 5 and 10 kilotons worth of nuclear fissile material.

Unfortunately two more SCUD B missiles were also launched and they were aimed at targets too far away for an AEGIS equipped vessel to intercept. The missiles struck in the Lake Beloe region of NW Chernarus where minority Turkic Shia live. These Shia tribes have been protected within Chernarus and Russia since the Tsars ruled both countries. There has not been confirmation from official sources as of yet but rumors of a nerve agent attack on the population center of Belozersk are circulating. Russian specialist units are en route to the remote area in the northern highlands and the AP will continue to follow all developments in Belozersk.

These Turkic tribes known as Kazhakanis in Takistan have made headlines in the past for bold attacks over the border into Takistan against the Sunni Muslim majority there and more recently the very public kidnapping and subsequent publicly broadcast beheading of Emir Abdullah-Abdullah bin Zayed of the Abu Dhabi Royal Family on vacation in Sochi Russia. The tribes have claimed that Sunni Monarchs like those in Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. are the enemies of all Islam and in particular the Shia sect. Russia and Chernarus have harbored these tribes in what some speculate as "a scheme to influence global oil prices for the benefit of Russia".

The Takistani government was unable to confirm who launched the SCUDs but in an attempt to prevent future launches of remaining missiles; all remaining missiles have had their guidance systems removed and destroyed.

There has not been any immediate movement along the Takistan-Russia border and the Chernarussian military has not mobilized. For the moment the the power of the US Navy and Marine Corps along with the now complete British Taskforce is keeping the Russian and Chernarussian forces from making any aggressive claims.

Takistan now appears to be a country in a vacuum with a government too powerless and friendless to defend the people against not just the Islamist insurgency but also the reinvigorated Socialist movement that has now besieged government forces in cities all around the country. It is doubtful that the government will be able to hold on without US/UK/NATO intervention but any move by them will surely be countered by the Russians or vice versa. Certainly a UN resolution is impossible with 3 Security Council Members at odds with one another over the future of Takistan.

There have been no reports of external support to either the Islamists or the Socialists but surely these sides will have to find a benefactor to continue fighting.

The AP will continue to follow all developments within Takistan.

    Press Release September 9th, 2011
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    AP Newswire Green Sea Region

The AP has confirmed through official Pentagon sources that the Army of the Republic of Takistan is now falling apart at the seams in many areas of northeast Takistan. Defections have been reported both to the Islamist and Socialist sides. This area is the heart of the insurgency and has been the focus of most of the attention by the Takistani Army. If this area falls, which it seems it will, a domino effect could hit the country and Zargabad could be the next target for the insurgents.

At the request of RusTak Oil, all offshore oil production facilities as well as the export facilities in the port of Takmyr have been placed under the protection of NATO forces stationed in the Green Sea. The Government of Takistan has not signed off on these seizures but no protests have been made either. It is doubtful that the Takistani Army can continue to guarantee to RusTak that these facilities can be protected by Takistani troops.

Reports of violence in Nasdara and Zargabad have been increasing daily. The government has cracked down severely in Zargabad and it is believed that Nasdara has completely fallen to the Socialists. The remote northern cities of Awdak and Chalang have been confirmed in the hands of the Islamists.

Kazhakanis have now claimed an autonomous region in the far east along the Chernarus border. Reports of militants crossing from Chernarus into Takistan are widespread but details are still hard to come by. These movements would seem to be in retaliation for the now confirmed chemical attack on Kazhakanis in Chernarus. We still do not know if Russia or Chernarus are supplying these militants with arms, but we do believe that they have seized the mountainous, wooded area adjacent to the Svetlaya river on the eastern border.

In the previously calm south of the country, the ethnic Karzegs have taken up arms in Shapur-e-Dalanper and have claimed an autonomous region along the the Sharig Plateau. The Karzegs have openly sought to unite with the neighboring state Karzeghistan. Ethnic Takistanis in the area have been stripped of lands and government offices. The refugee situation is becoming nearly unsustainable but the UN is so far unable to move due to competing stances on the Security Council.

The AP has not had direct access to Takistan since the media blackout. We will be looking to put assets on the ground as soon as the situation favors it. For the moment we are relying on sources inside the Pentagon, the MOD and monitoring what social media we can coming out of the country.

The AP will continue to follow all developments within Takistan.

Aanker here! I will be reporting as a war correspondent for the esteemed news network 24 Global Watch from within the heat of the Takistani conflict. As the only journalist capable of reporting from Takistan as part of an independent and highly regarded, unbiased news source, I will be providing as complete articles as possible covering in detail the action as it unfolds on the ground - taking a look at true, personal stories from the emerging conflict.

24 Global Watch will be monitoring the developing situation in Takistan with the help of its very own, on-site reporter. Join us for our weekly article and video updates on the personal side of the conflict.

World-famous war correspondent John Swift will be covering events from within Takistan.

    Violence Escalates in Takistan
Spoiler for Violence escalates in Takistan

    Violence escalates in Takistan
    John Swift, 24 Global Watch
    8 August 2011

Mohammed Abdullah sits quietly behind the wheel as we drive quietly through the Takistan night. The stars twinkle innocently in the pitch black dome above, hardly conscious of the bloodshed that will be had in just a few hours. Like them, Mohammed seems strangely detached – not ignorant – from the events that currently have set the country and its people into motion. We pass one quiet village after the other, but the words he offers are not those of concern, or worry. ”It is quiet, very quiet” he says as we step out of the car to stretch our legs for a brief moment, ”this is the true nature of Takistan”.

His comments could hardly reveal less about the real state of things in Takistan. An uprising, spearheaded by the Islamic Brotherhood, has resulted in a heavy military presence just about everywhere in the country. Patrols cross the countryside in abundance, looking for the admittedly crafty and secretive insurgents. A military truck speeds by. Things are not as they were only a few years ago, when the military admittedly still had an omnious presence in most locations across Takistan, but there is something different this time. Is it the worried look in the eyes of the soldiers, or the uncertainity of the officers at the now routine roadblock checks?

    The military presence is unmistakable

When we reach the village of Sakhe, Mohammed stops the car abruptly. He curses quietly in his language and signals to me to keep my head down. I am at first perplexed as to what could have caused the reaction, but then hear the crack of bullets flying through the air, and the distant thunder of an explosion. I have been engulfed in a bitter exchange of gunfire between the military and the insurgents, but the brutal engagement ends more swiftly than it began. A member of the Islamic Brotherhood lies dead, while the military claims that order has been restored with no casualties.

There are, however, always casualties in war. As the villagers peek out from their windows and doors to get a better look at the soldiers returning from the combat, the piercing cry of grief spreads across the streets. A child has been wounded, and whether it be from a stray bullet or a piece of shrapnel is uncertain. The doctor of the village reassures the family of the child – the wound is ”trivial”, as Mohammed translates for me – but the onlookers are nonetheless worried.

    The villagers of Sakhe

Sakhe is left behind as we speed towards Khushab. Takistan could have been – is – a truly beautiful country, but no tourists will ever set foot on this land as long as the violence is as prominent as this. And barely am I able to turn my thoughts away from the smattering sound of machinegun fire until we are stopped at another checkpoint, this time in Jilavur. An approaching car is suddenly targetted by the military, who, in their uncertainity, opt to open up with every piece of weaponry they have available. The vehicle slows down to a halt, while the officer of the roadblock encourages me to come closer to have a look. Lit up by the bright headlights of the vehicles present lies a dead insurgent, armed with a vintage rifle. Mohammed tells me that the man most likely had been aware that his life may end this way, on a cold asphalt road in a village in Takistan. The soldiers only chuckle as they lift away the body, and our journey continues into the night.

A dead insurgent at the roadblock in Jilavur

As morning approaches, and we stop at a village to rest and be offered some true Takistan hospitality, the thought of the conflict escalating pursues me. It seems inevitable, and that makes it all the more tragic.

    John Swift

A Day of Fighting in Takistan
Spoiler for A Day of Fighting in Takistan

A Day of Fighting in Takistan
    John Swift, 24 Global Watch
    15 August 2011

In Takistan, it is often said that when the wind no longer blows, Allah has made silence for man to pray. But it is difficult to imagine how anyone, even when the ever-present mountain winds cease, could pray in the nightmarish combat conditions around the town of Sakhe, which has seen an abrupt rise in fighting recently.

Just as the sun broke through the dry leaves of the trees that decorate the mountainside just above my hotel, a number of military vehicles rushed by on the road outside. Suddenly awoke, I and Mohammed, my guide and driver, set off to follow them. As it turned out, they were reinforcements for the beleaguered garrison in Sakhe, which had just come under heavy fire.

Approaching the town, a number of explosions set off, which seem to take the reinforcing soldiers completely off-guard. We are quickly directed off the road by the officers, who point at the attacking rebels, and shout commands at their soldiers to contain the situation. It becomes increasingly obvious, however, that the onslaught of the rebels has become unstoppable, and sooner than we came to the town, we are again ordered by an officer to move – this time onto the road and back to reinforced positions in Jilavur.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The Islamic Brotherhood claimed its killing of an officer in Sakhe was motivated by "heretic activities". Pictures later surfaced on their website, where it was claimed the officer had an "unislamic relationship".

In Jilavur, I am told by some of the soldiers that Sakhe has been lost, at least temporarily. Rumors abound that an infamous commander, apparently accused of “heretic activities” by the Islamic Brotherhood, has been killed. This honor killing seems indicative of things to come – and well enough, as the crisis settles and helicopters are sent in to take care of the situation – new reports emerge of attacks against the RusTak local headquarters near Nagara and a fierce gunfight between the Islamic Brotherhood and soldiers loyal to the religious leader, Khaled Qareem Khan. As we set off towards Nagara, accompanied by a military reconnaissance vehicle, the full scope of the destruction becomes obvious. Burning wrecks – including one of a Russian-built helicopter – litter the road or lie in the sand, while the GSS soldiers employed by RusTak have faced their end after being fiercely fired upon by the rebels. The Takistani soldiers look worried. Mohammed mutters a prayer for the dead.

More images surfaced on the website of the Islamic Brotherhood - this one depicting the raid on the RusTak HQ near Nagara.

Our journey continues to Bastam. The reports are coming in on the military radio: Sheik Khaled Qareem Khan has been killed in the Sultan Mahmud Mosque. The scene in the mosque is one of complete tragedy. Civilians have quickly gathered to mourn the dead, and tears soon emerge as the moderate and esteemed religious leader is carried out of the Islamic house of prayer. But some do not share the grief, instead retorting to shouting “death to the infidels!” and “gone is the devil Sheik!”When the soldiers appear, their cries quickly die out, however.

The Islamic Brotherhood claimed to have shot down a Russian Ka-40 helicopter, later showing evidence on their website. 24 Global Watch cannot confirm the authenticity of the images.

What had begun as a minor uprising now appears to be a rebellion in full sway. The Islamic Brotherhood is now on the lips of every soldier, and every civilian. People, not knowing what the true intentions of this relatively novel group are, fear what they might bring to the otherwise relatively stable country of Takistan. From their choice of targets, the message appears clear, however: the western influences are no longer welcome, and the shooting of Sheik Khaled Qareem Khan is indeed the paramount evidence that their guns are not only aimed at military targets, but also seemingly harmless civilians.

    The Battle of Zavarak

    The Battle of Zavarak
    John Swift, 24 Global Watch
    26 August 2011

The Islamic Brotherhood appears to be a well-informed organization. Shortly after reforming following the defeat at the hands of the TKA forces in Mulladost, the Takistani government enforced strict information publishing regulations and actively began prosecuting journalists within the country. It appeared as though the situation for the so-called "Takiban" was bleak, but with renewed vigour these humble but convinced warriors managed to intercept or otherwise acquire information that indicated another major government thrust in the country.

This time, the target was kept secret from us - and suspicious looks were exchanged as we followed the battle-weary but by now experienced insurgents to the frontline. One can wonder if they thought we had disclosed information on their tactics or equipment and thereby giving the TKA the decisive edge in Mulladost; one insurgent was especially keen on keeping me guarded at all times.

The roadsigns told us that we were headed for Zavarak. Normally a bustling and busy town on one of Takistan's most important roads, its residents were shy and mostly kept away from the Islamic Brotherhood. There were a few notable exceptions though, such as a small boy proudly wielding an assault rifle emblazoned with what appeared to be religious or political slogans. Mohammed mentioned that it was not too uncommon for the unprotected populace to switch sides to survive in the dynamic conflict, and that it was likely that the family had two weapons - one for the Islamic Brotherhood, and one for the Takistani national forces.

Shortly after the last insurgents had arrived in the town and reinforced its defences, skirmishes erupted. Gunfire smattered but eventually gave way to a full-fledged firefight involving tanks, artillery and airplanes. Although the complete cacophony of fighting made it difficult to discern individual sounds, it appeared as though every arm of the TKA had been rallied for this battle - I am absolutely certain that I heard jets maneuver above the town - and soon we were ushered towards the rear lines. One could easily believe that it at this point was another loss for the Takiban, but the sheer amount of burning wrecks outside and inside the town, and the inaccurate artillery fire, were indicative of the scale of the distruction wrought upon the assailants.

We retreated, and the TKA was in hot pursuit, but every meter won by its soldiers was paid for dearly. Columns of vehicles, burning, exposed the brutality of the engagement. The insurgents were melting away into the landscape, causing more casualties as the military pursued, and the only pause from combat came when the government forces regrouped for a final desperate attempt to get rid of the rebel forces. Already a ruined town, Zavarak was abandoned for the final push on Ravanay.

Once again the defenders, now confident of victory and no longer unsure of their future lives, positioned themselves to receive the assault. The government mustered its troops and attacked, but the shelling only caused light casualties amongst the ranks of the Islamic Brotherhood, and the advancing ranks of infantry and armour were gunned down.

This astonishing victory for the so-called Takiban could prove to be the decisive engagement of the war - but rumors abound that missiles have been launched at distant targets, potentially escalating the conflict to a higher level and destroying what the Islamic Brotherhood has achieved so far.

But so far, what concerns the insurgents most at the moment is how they can best celebrate the victory, and who can shout "Allahu Akbar" with most passion.

New report up, this one is a video.

Apologies for the poor FPS and the lacking quality (the latter was a result of the former). The FPS was of course the result of the huge amount of troops present in this weekend's action.

Imagine that you are in the mudpit... Conspiracy theorists, right-wingers and left-wingers (and combinations of those), abound to tear the news item apart through highly opiniated debate; the titans of the forum clash in epic engagements of trolling, rare moments of sensible argumentation and ranting...

    Wait.

Scrap that, above all, avoid imagining that you are in the mudpit! Instead think of it like a comments section to a newspaper article or, if you want to go that far, an actual, full, opiniated post.

Is it also acceptable to bring the neighbours of Takistan into the storyline? Maybe in the verge of intervening? Great initiative by the way

Yes indeed, the Chernorussians are not at all happy about 2 Chemically Armed SCUDs landing inside their border and a nuke almost hit Chernogorsk if it weren't for the US Navy, surely the Chernorussians would be going to war.

At present the players are trying to finish off an area in Northeast Takistan.
