Default [SUBMOD] MM's ZoR - Final 4.0 Released

From a galaxy far, far away... Where no Johnny Rebb dared to yell, where no Billy Yank dared to sing, where "Stonewall" Jackson lost his third arm but gained disability pension, where Robert E. Lee won at Gettysburg, where George B. McClellan was the most competent general, where Rebels were furies and yelled like Southerners and where Abe Lincoln shot theatre using a Dillinger Gun...

    Minas Moth brings you the

    *Awarded by Husserl

The ZoR is small add-on for American Civil War mod (only version 3.4.1.) that hopes to bring some small but eye catching things...

    Features

    1. completely integrated regional recruitment
    2. both Warpath and RTI3 campaign maps are supported
    3. new (more historical) regimental names now appear in game !WIP!
    4. increased/decreased a number of regiments of historical brigades (now, Stonewall Brigade has 5 regiments for recruitment, Bucktails 3, Union Irish Brigade 5 etc)
    5. decreased accuracy of state militia units (to represent their lower quality weapons)
    6. fully integrated "third shot type" ability. Player can now actually use shrapnel or grape shot as indicated in info picture of artillery pieces.
    7. Baron Von Beer's distant and enlarged deployment zones mod (newest version)
    8. new units:

    • Union 14th "Brooklyn" New York State Militia
    • Union 76th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment (Keystone Zouaves)
    • Union Illinois State Volunteers
    • Union Maine State Volunteers
    • Union Delaware State Volunteers
    • Union Battery B, 4th US Artillery
    • Confederate Washington Artillery
    • Confederate Virginia State Volunteers
    • Confederate Alabama State Volunteers
    • Confederate Rodes' Alabama Brigade

    Download & Installation

    Download Link (version 4.0)
    Gamefront

    Download Link (version 4.0)
    MediaFire

    1) Download the ZoR from the link above

    2) Download and install Launcher SubsReady by husserlTW

    3) Copy the downloaded ZoR file to your desktop

    4) Extract the file with 7zip to your desktop

    5) Copy the extracted file (it will be ZoR folder)

    6) Paste the files in SteamApps\common\empire total war\ACW\SubMods (there is a ZoR folder there already so you simply merge those folders )

    7) Start the ACW launcher, choose your campaign, faction and in SubMods section check Zone of Recruitment

    Un-installation

    1) Start ACW Launcher
    2) In SubMods un-check the Zone of Recruitment
    3) Simply delete the contents of the ZoR Folder in ACW\SubMods folder
    4) it seems in some cases file bg_MM_ZoR.pack remains in the SteamApps\common\empire total war\data folder. in that case, when you start vanilla after removing the ZoR game could crash at loading screen. to fix this, simply delete the bg_MM_ZoR.pack and you are ready to go!

*if you restore to vanilla, launcher will automatically disable the ZoR so you will have to make check it again in SubMods section of the launcher

    some in-game pictures:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    A word from MM:

as of now (18th August, 2012) this is going to be a final version of this add-on for some time. Reason is thatI am leaving for college and I will have no time to continue this. That is why I tried to do as much as possible as fast as possible. Sorry for many uploads and re-uploads but now I can say I have a product I find satisfactory. I hope yo will see it as such also.

    Some add-on guidelines

Some of the most important features are:
    1) Larger&Distant Deployment Zones
This mod (by Baron Von Beer) challenges the player to creatively use his army. distant deployment zones nullify the common artillery duel from the start of the battle. now, player and AI will have to manoeuvre their guns in best position to rain death on the enemy. in this setting individual characteristics of various artillery pieces come forward. For example: 3-inch Ordnance Rifle has the longest range f all weapons (except Withworth) and can therefore easily dispatch other artillery weapons even before they come in range.

This setting also encourages the player to creatively exploit the battle map. search for "sunken roads" small inclines, cliffs and other natural cover that battle-map presents you to deal maximum damage with minimum losses. ACW indeed was a conflict of large armies and both small and large scale manoeuvres. Recreate some of the most daring manoeuvres of the War, like R.E. Lee's famous split of forces at Chancellorsville or changing position in the face of the enemy at Wilderness.

    2) Regional Recruitment
Speaks for itself pretty much. Play and discover. However, most of the volunteer units are now recruited in farms (corn and sheep) so you will have to guard them from enemies raids or you will loose your ability to recruit them. This encourages the player to carefully guard his own frontier regions while attempting to raid border towns of his enemy to hamper its recruitment capability.

I only wanted to try to resemble it.If I don't misunderstand, there was a Union flag(It seems it is mixed regiment and union flag mixed) The blue area may not be true,I made it,if you examine Gettysburg you will see it at Picketts Charge.I mean "Can you add such a flag to union in this submod?"I think it will be better.(As only one flag,I know the engine doesn't support two waving flags)

that is a good idea and proposal. however, etw engine assigns waving flags based on the faction. that means that all the units from certain faction have the same flags. static (un-waving flags) are part of an equipment and therefore there can be two of them. with waving flags it is impossible to do... sorry...

however, I am considering adding a few regiments for both sides (but primarily the union) to expand their roster a little...

hello, this is very good work. the only comment i have is that the historic regiment names you have do not appear to be actually historical. in europe it was common to call regiments "35th Rifle Volunters" and such. here during the war, as with before the war, regiments were named by the states they came from. example: 3rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry, 10th NYVM (New York Volunteer Militia), 5th U.S. Infantry Regiment, 11th S.C. Rifles (South Carolina), etc. otherwise this is great. I have a units pack myself that i have been using for some time that i have been thinking about posting. the only thing i need to fix is the two southern colored regimens i have need to have the faces fixed but otherwise its great.

Yes I knew that but, from my understanding allocation of "random" regiment names such as Regiment of Foot or in this case Rifle Volunteers is tied to unit_class. and although you can make appear them as unique for each faction the problem in this case is that ACW makes all units (militia, volunteers, regulars and historical brigades) line_infantry_class, meaning: they all share the same pool of random regiment numbers/names. therefore I had chosen this option because it felt wrong to me to recruit unit in Virginia and be shown as 10th Florida Rifle Volunteers. I might change my mind later, but that takes a lot of time to edit... I respect your post, just wanted to clarify the reasons behind my decision...

yeah i see what you are saying but there does appear to be a way to do it. check this out: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=295716 here it appears you can assign the special names to specific factions. i have been thinking about doing this for some time now but have never really had the time to look into it. for his example he made custome regiment names for russia.

i had a request to create another custom unit. well i took it a little farthur. i created two. and they are both zouaves and they have new uniforms. well i just moddified the uniforms in game but the effect is great. so without furthur stalling i give you two new regiments:

    146th New York Volunteer Infantry

the 53rd New York Infantry (they have yellow trim instead of the red)

they sure are, i pulled them both from books i have and backed it up with research on the internet. an easy search can be done....
here is the 17th new york veteren volunteers and the 146th which shared the same pattern uniform

the 53rd is seen with being issued both styles, the red trousers and the blue, the red came in in 1863

it seems entirely possible that regiments were issued uniforms by company, meaning each comapny could have a different syle but it is more likely that they were reissued uniforms of different patterns latter in the war depending on what was available. i thought abaout designating the blue one as a pennsylvania pattern but it appears whatever style was availble is what was issued.
