    Default FPS way too low

    Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forums here but I've been a Total War fan ever for a very long time. I recently purchased Total War Shogun 2 off steam thinking my specs were all up to date seeing as how I was running Total War Rome on the highest settings for the past few months. Anyway, I discovered quickly that Shogun 2 was running very inefficiently. It is very choppy and lags even on the lowest settings. Now, I'm not very hardware savvy but I thought I had a pretty decent set up. I was hoping if I provide my specs you fellas could help me get started on solving this problem.

    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.4GHz 2.4GHz
    RAM: 6GB
    64-bit OS
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT (up to date)

Any help would be really helpful.

Footnote: Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section, I think I'm where I need to be though.

I would say the GPU is bottleneck in this case.
Anyway, I am confident you can run the game even with that kind of computer.
    Try to:
Update motherboard driver (helped me a lot)
    Use this mod - http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=486474
You can also use Game Booster application (It turns off unnecessary processes)

its a mix of GPU and CPU limitations
9600M GT = 9500 GT desktop gpu which is essentially an 8600GT

that means your Laptops GPU was considered Mid range back in 2006, as it stands todays Integrated GPUs are far faster.

If yours is a GDDR2 varient that explains pretty much everything if GDDR3 it would still be fairly slow but should be playable.

Sorry, S2 is a completely different beast from Rome. As mentioned before, especially the GPU might be a bottleneck.
    I would
    1) Try to run in DX9 mode (your card supports DX10 but might do it rather inefficiently)
    2) Try to lower the screen resolution. If you have a monitor with decent scaling, that might be your best bet to have acceptable performance.
