Enlightenment: Imperial Splendour
An Imperial Splendour AAR as the Kingdom of France
by IrishHitman
The 18th Century.
An Age of Enlightenment.
At its centre, the Kingdom of France.
For almost fifty years, it has flourished in its success. Finally a united kingdom, the spectre of noble rebellions banished by Louis XIV, the Sun King, her strong armies and massive empire project French power across the globe. The future looks bright for the Bourbon dynasty.
Of course, not all has gone the French way. The English, as always, remain. The Austrians too may prove a thorn in the side of ambition. In the colonies, any number of proud natives stand in the way of expansion.
But it is not just the foreigner that will challenge France. Lurking unknown in the future, unforeseeable to the King and his loyal subjects, progress approaches. New understanding about the nature of the world, and the place of humankind within it, reveals itself yearly. Every monarchy in Europe shall be shaken. It is this threat to tradition that means the story of France is also the story of Europe, and indeed, the entire world.

For Glory and the Republic!
RTW | Rome Total Realism VII | SPQR
By Maurits
For Glory and the Republic' isn't just another AAR about the Senate and the People of Rome. It isn't a page full of images, accompanied by some rare lines of text. Instead, it attempts to shed light on the people behind the republic which would become the mightiest empire of the known world. When reading this tale, you will become part of the lives of Publius, Valeria and an ambitious patrician from the house of Decius Mus. Their lives all come together in the wars that ravage the Italian peninsula around the year 280 BC. For years, Rome has expanded its borders and lived in peace. Now, the Greek king Pyrrhus of Epirus stands on the shores of Italy with his battle-hardened veterans and ferocious war elephants. Already, a consular army has been destroyed. Now, a young consul faces the Epirote might in battle. Will he manage to defeat their great king? Even so, more threats loom over the horizon. The great merchant empire of Carthage has taken Messana, while frictions between the two powers are growing....

The Last Pagan Emperor
by
Justinian Australis
RTW/Invasio Barbarorum: Sominum Apostate luliani
It's a time of mixed emotions as Flavius Claudius lulianus who has now been Emperor for five years since his acclamation at Augusta Trevororum whilst campaigning against the Franks, in direct opposition of Constantius. The Arian Emperor however now lays dead on a lonely island in Greece and now Julian is unopposed as he oversees the crushing of the Berbers and the humiliating treaty imposed on the Franks, whom were goaded to war by the perfidy of the Gallic Prefect Valentinianus and the headstrong and proud Agandastrius, whose scheming was laid bare by Julianus' loyal Magister, Corelianus Phocas. The remnants of the forces loyal to the memory of Constantius were expelled from Africa and Greece. The Tervingi Goths, though beaten numerous times, still loom around Thracia and Macedonia.
Yet for all his triumphs, Julian is torn apart by a growing distance between he and his wife Helena as he grapples with the enormity of governing the greatest Empire of its time, as it turns him into someone he does not want to be. Now he makes the long await return to Constantinople, where his nominated heir Decimius Valens awaits, as does Helena..
