    Default Campaign End Date

I'm sorry to ask this here and I'm not sure if this is the right place but I couldn't find an answer on Google. In Total War games (ie: Rome, Medieval II, Empire, Napoleon, Shogun) does the game end when the campaign is over? I ask because some people say that you can continue on and play as long as you like. Others like my brother find that at the end of 1815 in Empire that it prompts you to exit the campaign and return to the menu screen. Now do you have to do that in Total War games or can you just skip it and keep playing?

In M2TW as the apaches in the americas campaign i was able to continue the game after I won the campaign, same with the Kingdom of Jerusalem. In the case of your brother he probably won the campaign, continued to play, and then reached the end date of the campaign regardless of campaign completion. There is a certain turn that is the end which is specified in the campaign objectives as "win the campaign in ____ amount of turns", so eventually the campaign must end. In RTW I think I heard people saying they kept playing until AD14, and then had to stop. I am sure that eventually somebody will make a mod to lengthen the campaign close to an indefinite(infinite, as both are grammatically correct i think :/) length of time, as had been done for the game Victoria revolutions which I so highly reccomend :p.

Is there a way to lengthen the time? Like edit some files?

I have played way further than 1815, my first ever empire campaign got to 1832, and even then i just got a bit bored and started another one.
