    Rise of three Kingdoms

    The title is still a WIP as well . Some of you may be familiar with the "Three Kingdoms - The Fight for Supremacy" a mod for RTW-ALX that never made it into TWCenter because the developers felt the need to include a modified EXE file as well as the complete game (RTW, BI, ALX). The mod itself is quite impressive but I failed to make it a "legal" mod due to several issues (known and hidden) that were raised by the modified EXE. Instead I am attempting now to port it over to M2TW-Kingdoms. A few impressions of the work so far:

    I will have to restrict the number of wonders to three as I have to bind them in with trade resources and four of those trade resources are already taken by 'the Great Wall' (see next pic). I think I will use 'sleeping', 'palace' and 'spires'.

    Progress and other stuff

    The strat map is nearly finished, I just have to add the three wonders and assign\convert more strat models for the named characters (leader, heir, weird ranks etc).

    Right now I have started converting the battle models (+- 300 I think) after which the mod should be playable as the EDB is finished already.

    The traits will need a good work over as a lot of text is still in Chinese and some simply won't fire due to the syntax of conditions and effects. The most obvious have been corrected, like 'belief' --> 'religion', but that sometimes simply messes up the purpose of the trait.

    There is no script at all in the original version and I would like to script events of that period - but so far I haven't had the time to look up the history of that period. 194 AD onward is the time frame and I have already set it to 12 turns per year - anything beyond 230 AD (432 rounds) will be too late.
    Assistance with that (links to articles, period pictures related to events etc) will be most welcome.


    The Map Teaser

    Trailers are so yesterday! If you have some bandwidth to spare download the map teaser!

    The small installer (60MB) will provide you with a 'playable' map. Due to size it does not include all characters or factions, but the lay out is complete - including

    • - complete EDB (text\pictures) for the building browser
    • - new ground textures
    • - all resources (RTW retro) and the Great Wall
    • - complete placement of named settlements
    • - new strat models for settlements and trade boats
    • - multiple rebel symbols for settlements
    • - complete user interface
    • - pressing ScrollLock will remove the interface for larger screenshots

    So far only a few cavalry models (riders only). Check this pic from my help cry:

    The riders are floating a bit over their saddles, but I have been given to believe that that is a generic problem which I will have to address via descr_mounts. Still have to get some crisper banners as well - my templates are simply too small scale to be of decent use here.

    Gigantus, gut gemacht! Can help with researching issue and translating text fragments (at least I'll try) from Chineese.
    By the way, did you see the submod for previous version of three kingdoms? Here it is http://bbs.3dmgame.com/thread-2805705-1-1.html Probably, there is something usefull there
    And last thing, which AI do intend to use? Chineese modders mixed up nit classes for the best Ai performance))

    Well, my Chiinese is non existent and Google isn't exactly the answer if I look at some of the translations I put together for the export_buildings file. didn't help that it contained three sets of descriptions....
    Having relevant files distributed over a couple of installations (ALX, BI and RTW) in the same download isn't making the converting easier, eg the descr_model_battle is in alexander and the relevant model and textures are in BI - relatively easy to get lost in the wrong directory.
    But I am used to that by now after doing my 'easy installation' bit for Call of Warhammer.

    Editing what I have done there (export_building) and correcting where necessary would be great. I have attached the original, the alphabetically sorted original and the new file.
    The size reduction is due to there being only the necessary entries.
    Assistance would be much appreciated.

    There is no plan yet which AI to use. The implementation of it doesn't take too much time, so I will keep it for later.

    Excellent work G! Love the faction selection, though I do admit having Zhang Yan as a faction head is a little weird, I can get behind it.

    Edit: Nevermind, no point in helping with the history if its just translating base files lol. Still, good luck though.

    Proof reading was just a thought if you are familiar with the language. There are no historic events or any scripting, I am more interested in that.

    Awesome mod! Definitely one I will try out. I see some historical inaccuracies.
    -Liu Bei was staying with Tao Qian at this time
    -Han Xian and Meng Huo did not rule those areas until a later time.
    What kind of historical battles are you going to use, such as Guan Du, Mount Dingjun, and Wuzhang Plains?

    Nothing planned so far as I still have to read up on the background of the set up (period) of the mod.

    It is a hope of mine, but that is about the most convoluted scripting\editing so far. Having a nice pagoda instead of a catholic church would sure be a cherry.

    The general plan is to release a beta version once the porting is complete. Then the trait system will require a good work over and a script is needed to relieve the boredom. The battle buildings will be pretty much at the bottom of the list unless someone with know how would like to help.

    Simply amazing, I would help with the history but my knowledge is limited to Romance of the Three Kingdoms which is more fiction than history.
