Wouldn't it be a bit too hard to implement WWI?

If they made the game modes right(like Napoleon DLC for M&B), a WWI could work. I doubt it would be popular though.

I don't think I'd ever want to play a WWI FPS. Hell, I wouldn't even want to play a WWI RTS. It's just such a boring, pointless, and unexciting war.

WWI gaming is a niche market. The money is in modern shooters and maybe after Black Ops II comes out, future shooters as well.

There isn't even a niche. If you know of any current or even 5 year old titles let me know, I want to buy. RTS or FPS please. I'm following "The Trench" but that's delayed.

Rise of Flight, though that's a flight simulator. An excellent one, I might add.

Already played it. I need a good RTS or FPS, RTS is preferable. I've already looked so this is a dumb request, WWI RTS doesn't exist and FPS is mods only.

A BF 1942 mod set in WWI was released in 2011.

I find this eerily in response to Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

Nope. I read somewhere that someone on EA had confirmed that initial work on BF4 had started quite some time ago, I remember reading it before BO2 was announced. IF BF4 turns out to be futuristic, remember that DICE already did 2142 some years ago and it will probably be something of a continuation of that game.

    Here:

    http://www.fz.se/artiklar/nyheter/20...-battlefield-4

Date: 2011-11-10. Title roughly says: "There will be a Battlefield 4". So obviously they had some thoughts on the future by then.

Still, the announcement came relatively close to Black Ops 2.

I just hope it doesn't turn into an annual release fest, or two years for that matter.

Unless BF4 reverses the trend of BF3, and goes back to BF2 like mechanics, I couldn't care less about it. Thing is though, that BF3 was by far their best selling game so far, as far as I know, so a reversal seems unlikely.

We'll just have to wait and see. Way too early to judge this in any way or the other for me.
I was hoping that as well. Well I dont think they will rename WWII 1944. That was too late in the war and if they started in 1944 that would eliminate the desert maps. Unless the title means nothing.

Anyway... I dont BF4 is a placeholder since technically there have been well over 10 Battlefield games, at least 10 anyway.

And Battlefield 1918 was released years ago. Perhaps 5-6. Though it was prob just a Beta back then. Their final is prob from 2011.

There's enough games based on the 1944 scenario, it wouldn't make that much of an impact.

    Bump.

A little piece of information, nothing surprising really but disappointing.
    http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/13/ba...odern-warfare/

I hoped the name "Battlefield 4" was just a placeholder and since upcoming CoD BO 2 is set in future, the next BF would have been BF2143 or something else than the same modern stuff...
I'm sure DICE would have courage to make something new but EA, currently in a quite bad financial situation, doesn't wan't to take any "risks".

It better have something really new, perhaps take more steps closer to BF2. Still it is a long way to release and I'm interested to see what they have come up to.

I never got BF3 never reached out to me because of origin but lets see what BF4 is like i dont think it will come anywhere close to Arma 3 IMO.

Well, BF4 is probably going to have Micro-transactions or even be free to play. Not to mention its probably going to be like COD with MOH being released every 2 years. Yay.

Oh yeah, didn't one of BF3's top designers, "David Goldfarb" quit Dice to join Starbreeze because

" I really wanted to work on something that I personally felt I was interested in, which apparently is crime. I just wanted to get closer to things that I love and this was a great match for me.”

I see a bright future for game companies with games made by the investors.

Don't you guys think It feels like they should change the time-setting already? We have had so many modern warfare titles lately, and I must say that even though I'm not a big fan of Call of Duty, at least they deserve some respect for changing time-setting. I was personally hoping Battlefield 4 would take place during WWII since the last game I played from that time was World at War. I'd hoped to see some kind of 1942 remake. Well, can't always get what you want can you?
