    Default Faction - Labrynna Regime

    Labrynna Regime

    Main Color: Indigo
    Religion: No Deity Worship
    Culture: Civilized
    Rival Factions: Fairies of Tarm
    Cordial Factions: Tokay

    Strengths, Weaknesses, and Abilities:

    - Tech Savvy: Labrynnians have access to technology that is superior to those of other races, notably Gunpowder and steam powered armor.
    - Social Mongers: Labrynnians are rather bright and can advance their cities fairly quickly with new improvements in the campaign.
    - Brave at a Distance: Labrynnian forces prefer to fight from a defensive stance and are horrible when marching and charging.
    - Isolated: In the campaign, Labrynna is rather distant from other empires and has fair room to expand.

How to make them appear in the Campaign: Exploring as far east as Lynna City will spawn the Labrynna Regime

Far to the east of Hyrule the lands of Labrynna and Holodrum have remained largely unaffected by the bloody and savage wars of the past. In the southeastern reaches of this stable land the Labrynnians have developed peacefully for centuries, only having to fend off smaller tribes of hostile natives to expand their empire. The average Labrynnians looks similar to Hylians, though their ears have a much more vertical tilt to them. It is theorized that they may have been Hylian colonists that traveled far east in some ancient time, though there is no proof left to link the two races. Regardless, Labrynna's people have always been fueled to find knowledge, and their level of technology is above that of the medieval races to the west. They have managed to harness the power of hydraulics through the use of geysers, and as such steam is an important aspect of their machinery. Their most infamous invention however is that of gunpowder. Labrynna's armies are all equipped with these deadly firearms that can down an enemy force from a tremendous distance. This technological superiority gives the Labrynnians a huge edge when fighting from a distance. Despite the miracle of their guns however, they have a long reload time from which a prepared army can bridge the gap and charge into melee. At this point, the Labrynnians are not the best sword fighters in the land and tend to be bested by the more brutal medieval races. While they might not fair well in a bloody melee, one must respect and always beware of the Labrynnaian's signature weapons of death.

    Borderguards

Between Hyrule proper to the far west and Labrynna to the east lay a large stretch of uninhabited lands. Along this stretch of lands the Borderguards remain stationed at various camps and outposts to assure none can invade without warning from the west. Little more then sentries, Borderguards are only modestly armed and only have basic training.

    Homeguards

The main police and law force of Labrynna, Homeguards are found in virtually every city of the Regime. Armed with a heavy pole-arm and shield, they are effective crowd control during both civil unrest and during war time on the battlefield.

    Pioneers

The military workforce of the Regime, Pioneers are found in virtually every Labrynnian army. Base builders, Supply Charters, and logistic support, Pioneers assure that any army is in top fighting condition and well maintained. On the battlefield they can set up barricades and other defensive barriers before the fight starts.

    Pathfinders

Employed by the Regime for their scouting and tracking skills, Pathfinders are explorers that have been making their way west into Hyrule in seach of new lands. Quick on their feet and deadly with their knives, Pathfinders are excellent light troopers in a fight. In addition they are armed with a handheld crossbow to use from a safe hiding spot.

    Knights of Ambi

Capable commanders and soldiers, the Knights of Ambi are usually found leading lesser Regime units into battle. During more large scale attacks they'll often assemble into groups of footmen themselves. They serve a large variety of roles from guarding important locations, keeping captured cities at bay, and even escorting Queen Ambi herself.

    Palace Watch

Iconic guardians and wardens of Labrynna royalty, the Palace Watch are found in defensive garrisons all over the Regime. Be it gatehouses, treasuries, or the Palace of Queen Ambi herself, there are few foolish enough to test the endurance of these soldiers. Armed with bladed pole and shield, they often serve as front line soldiers on the battlefield as well.

    Gunners

Perhaps Labrynna's most infamous of icons, Gunners serve as high ranking units of terror during wartime. The first empire to create a portable weapon that could deliver the power of Hyrule's Bombs at long range, Labrynna's Gunners can mow down a charging enemy force before they knew what hit them. While the power and terror factor of their attacks can't be underestimated, clever foes will take note of the long reloading times these diabolical weapons require in between volleys.

    Mechs

Applying hydraulic principles to good use, Labrynna has been able to construct durable suits of armor with no penalty on the wearer's mobility. While still clumsy to a degree, Mechs can move with speed despite their size and are largely protected from most melee attacks by their polished Bronze armor.

    Tokay Slaves

Kidnapped in large groups from their native island homes, Tokay Slaves have been reeducated into military service. They often serve as very cheap front line troopers to hold off enemy soldiers while Gunners unleash volleys of fire on them. Despite their low rank in Labrynna society virtually every Tokay Slave is very willing and often thanks their masters for giving them free food and fancy uniforms: both items that they think make them superior to their wild brethren.

    Cannon Fodder

Exploitation of willing Tokay Slaves in Labrynna knows no bounds, and as such the military is not afraid to use them in unethically creative ways. Sporting a shield with a bullseye and no weapons of any sort, Cannon Fodder line themselves up in front of army formations to take the bulk of enemy fire. Their large numbers and cheap cost make them an effective and mobile alternative to Gunner Posts and Walls.

    Gunner Posts

When the Regime needs an area to be held and secured, nothing can do the job quite as well as a battery of gunners. By stationing themselves behind barriers, these Gunners have all the advantages they would out in the open, with the addition of being immune to charges and forward assaults. Placed in a narrow chokepoint or at the top of a hill, An array of Gunner Posts can fight off an entire army on their own from a distance.

    Labrynna Cannon

Using the principles of their gunpowder but on a larger scale, these siege weapons are undoubtedly one of the most effective means of tearing down an enemy castle. With modest reload times, a battery of cannons can down a city wall in short order.

    Expeditionary

Expeditionaries are lone scouts that have traveled far from their homeland to scout out potential threats to the Regime. An expeditionary can find valuable resources for capture and track the movements of enemy armies.

    Queen Ambi

The current leader of Labrynna's Regime, Queen Ambi inherited the Kingdom from her recently deceased husband and previous King. For a time she fell into a deep depression and Labrynna began to falter as a result. One day however her demeanor changed and soon after the Regime began to make huge strides in economics and technology. Seemingly from nowhere she helped develop Hydraulics as a new energy source for her kingdom as well as provided insight into new forms of weaponry. She now strives to expand west in Hyrule and find more resources to complete her crowning achievement: a massive tower from which she may look upon all the land.

    Ralph, Knight of Ambi

Eccentric would be a mild word to describe the oddity that is Ralph. Many would shun away from him because of his awkward mannerisms but few would deny his good sense of loyalty and duty. The grandson of Queen Ambi, Ralph was quick to join Labrynna's new found military as a recruit. He also has a keen interest in the cultures of those races native to Hyrule, in particular the religion built around the Hylian's three Goddesses and the Triforce.

    Veran

There are only a few individuals aware of Veran's existence, and even fewer that know the truth behind her. In the past a powerful Great Fairy, Veran at one time betrayed the Fairies and nearly destroyed all her people along with Onox. Death was believed to be too light of a punishment, so the Fairies instead cast her into the Mirror of Twilight believing she would suffer in a void for all eternity. Much like the Interlopers that were banished with her, Veran instead gained power on the other side of the Mirror and has now found a way to slip back into the world and poison Queen Ambi with her words.

If there is one unit that I find in this faction to be somewhat overpowered, it's those gunner posts.

so am i the only one who feels that Labrynna and the Faries should just be on the map from the start and be playable? they work fine on the map as is, and we already have an over abundance of emergant factions. and they would help add action to the eastern side of the map instead of it all being in the west.

besides, the Zora, Lanaryu, Gorons, Deku, Kokiri and Lizalfos can discover them in all of two, three turns of the game starting anyway. just make em playable.

They should be, as part of the enjoyment of a Total War Campaign is seeing not only how your empire forms but also how the empires of your foes does as well. If factions far away are emergent, you lose that interesting factor of seeing how they've developped in your absence. Also, it means they could be in a bad position to handle the threat of you travelling east, as you could have established a nigh unstoppable realm in the west already.

Strict building limit in the engine prevents them from being playable in the campaign.

But surely that doesn't impact on having the faction there from turn 1? I mean, it might stop them being a playable faction for people, but wouldn't they still be capable of being there as foes from the beginning?

this confuses, then how does Call of warhammer have crazy amounts of buildings, especially for the empire factions?

All their factions probably have similar techtrees, in which case they actually share building slots with each other.

Is that not a viable solution then?

More generic tech trees seems the obvious solution...

Hmmm.. you know that custom loader which handles changing the UI so each race has its own? I wonder just how far that Loader could be made to work. I mean, let's say you run with a generic tech tree for all races (with a few unique buildings as well), couldn't you theoretically use the Custom Loader to load custom icons for the buildings for each race? Maybe even custom names and descriptions?

Maybe I'm just talking out of my rump on this one, but I'm unsure of the extent that the Custom Loader can be used.

Already had to use that method to lower the building count. It's why there's only one barracks in the entire game.

That's what I'm trying to do, but it's been several months and Azog has not responded to me at all and it seems no one else in the world has the faintest clue of how his loader works. It's the only way each race will have their own portraits for generals too. Whatever braindead designer at CA decided that everything UI related would be culture specific instead of faction specific (you know, the standard in every RTS ever) really needs to be slapped upside the head.

any chance you could ask the Call of Warhmmer team how they got so many buildings to work and ask for some advice?

You know, for an unplayable campaign faction, they actually play pretty well in the campaign. I mean I haven't ran into any issues yet, though I did only just start my Labrynna campaign.

What file must you alter to allow for a playable Labrynna Regime?

West: Foranar- Azurita - The Redeemer - Sinteiria - Sakotae the Guardian (Tavia) - Saleria
    East: Nerise - Kiril

Go to your Hyrule:TW directory, then go to data > world > maps > campaign > imperial_campaign and open the file Descr_Strat in the word processor of your choice.

Then simply move Labrynna from the 'nonplayable' column to 'playable' and save the document. Then next time you start up H:TW Labrynna should be an option on the campaign screen. In theory you could also move the Fairy faction up there but I haven't tested that yet.

If you want to unlock a faction for Custom battles (Like say, the Majora faction) then go to your H:TW directory, then the folder called 'data', then there should be a file called descr_sm_factions. Open it and scroll down till you get to Major'a faction, then look for where it says 'Custom_battle_availability' and change the 'no' next to it to a 'yes' and save the file. Note that Majora's faction doesn't have an icon on the faction select screen, it's invisible so just click the blank space where the next faction icon should be and you should select majora's faction.
