Default Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

"We did the triple, but in all honesty...who else was going to be the best British band at the moment, you know?" - Alex Turner, upon having to go through another award ceremony

A lot of bad things can be said about the Arctic Monkeys, but little which relates to the quality of their music. I myself have a dislike of them as people in general, and can't shake the opinion that they're Britain's only socially accepted chavs. This may have something to do with me being a southerner. Whatever. Others say they have risen to sharply, that they have cashed in on their success, but their music is universally brilliant.

    1. "The View from the Afternoon" – 3:38
    2. "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" – 2:53
    3. "Fake Tales of San Francisco" – 2:57
    4. "Dancing Shoes" – 2:21
    5. "You Probably Couldn't See For the Lights But You Were Staring Straight at Me" – 2:10
    6. "Still Take You Home" – 2:53
    7. "Riot Van" – 2:14
    8. "Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured" – 2:23
    9. "Mardy Bum" – 2:55
    10. "Perhaps Vampires Is a Bit Strong But..." – 4:28
    11. "When the Sun Goes Down" – 3:20
    12. "From the Ritz to the Rubble" – 3:13
    13. "A Certain Romance" – 5:31

Both 'I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor' and 'When the Sun Goes Down' have rightfully been UK number ones and the other tracks are equally worthy of the Arctic Monkey's ability. The northern accent gives a very strange but incredibly successful tone to every song, and fast paced guitaring makes for some very exciting and memorable songs. A simply awesome album from a simply awesome band, though if you're British you may well be sick to death of them from their excessive radio time. If you're American waste no time and get some proper music in you.

Having had it a few months, I still think some of the songs are a bit...meh. I can imagine them being incredible live, though I didn't get tickets (like freakin gold dust), but some don't translate that well to CD. Plus the hype is very over-excessive.

    Still, 4 thumbs up.

This album is classy to the max. Very good, honest album. I really like it. But the band has been overhyped to death. I find it funny that the band have seemingly dropped of the spotlight somewhat ever since its release.

Seen em live just after they made it big on the NME tour. They were good but not great id say, but saying that it was in the corn exchange which is scotlands worst venue. If it was elsewhere they would have been alot better.
