Welcome, everyone, to the the 16th edition of the the Silver Shield. A lot has happened since we came to you last and we are excited to be back. First, our previous Editor in Chief, Bolkonsky, has resigned; and we would like to say, "Thanks" to him for all of his hard work and dedication. Second, we are happy to announce that the Shield will begin a bi-weekly highlight of the goings on across TWC. If you are a local mod, and you have a release or preview of any kind, we want to know about it. If there is a new RPG or hotseat starting, we want to know about it. If there is a great D&D thread or a hot topic in the Q&S we want to know about it. Basically, we want to know everythingIF you will let us know, we will do our best to let the rest of TWC know.
With that being said, I am pleased to introduce you to the 16th edition of the Silver Shield. We have some great pieces, over some even greater people. Our newest reporter David93, gives us a look into the growing hotseat community. Some great modders gives us their thoughts, along with some nice looking eye candy, while Dark Storm and Narf speak about the TWC Uninversity. All in all, we hope you enjoy
Running a Regiment: An Interview with Hinkel, By:M_1512
1. Hello Hinkel, nice to have you for the interview. Could you tell our readers something about yourself?![]()
A. Hey mate, and hello to all readers of the silver shield.
My name is Benjamin Hinkel, 28 years old and I'm from germany. But to be straight, my heart is 50 % american and I think thats why all my modifications handle about the same topic.![]()
When I'm not working in my job or making mods, I hang out in the forums, making videos or playing games, or just being worried about strange stuff being released or posted.
2. Please tell us about your mods.
A. The Blue and the Grey
Um, well.. where should I start.
It all startet in may 2009, when Empire: Total War got released. I'm a huge fan of the american civil war since I was a kid, so I thought that this game has the best basic to make cool civil war battles. I saw, that a guy has startet with such a modification and I joined him. We worked a few days and released "The Blue and the Grey" some days later. It wasn't a big deal, some new units, new names and some basic retextures.
Sadly, he retired from modding a few weeks later and I took over the mod lead and continued the work with some other guys.

Today, nearly 3 years later, "The Blue and the Grey" is the biggest full conversion for Empire: Total War. Even bigger then good old DarthMod I would say.
We've added tons of stuff, which the newest Total War games have, like railroads, gatling guns and other cool stuff. To offer the best gameplay and the best looking stuff, some of the most talented modders like Shokh, who is the current mod leader, but also Husserl and Primergy are working on this huge project!

North and South
When I'm talking about primergy, who is doing new models like civil war cannons or other battlefield props, I have to mention my second mod project "North and South", which is made for Napoleon: Total War.
Different from "The Blue and the Grey", which offers a civil war campaign, "North and South" has the goal to become a multiplayer modification only.
For that, Primergy is making the battlefield of Antietam, which is one of the biggest and most detailed custom maps for NTW. I would even say for every total war game yet..
And we have to say, this all without any official tools. Those tools are done by the community itself.

Primergy managed to build in 3 different fence types on that map, new plants like huge corn fields, historical buildings, new trees and ground textures and much more. You can get a good overview on the screenshots above. Beside that, he is a very talented modeller and is doing some of the fanciest uniforms I ever saw.
North and South will feature the Battlefield of Antietam, the Battle of Gettysburg with 5 unique maps, the Battle of Manassas and some other selfmade battlefield maps. Hope we are ready in september, during the 150th Anniversary of Antietam

Other Games
Outside Total War games, I'm also working on two civil war modifications for the game Mount&Blade:Warband.
While Secession is using the regular M&B:Warband, the second mod North&South: First Manassas is using the new Napoleonic Wars DLC
Both are designed for so called "Line Battles", were 250 player are doing huge battles, forming regiments and getting commanded via TS.
A Look at DarthMod: An Interview with Darth Vader. By: SonofPeverel
![]()
Q)DARTH VADER, what led you to the glory that is TWC?
I am one of the oldest members of TWC. One of the first here. I stay all these years because TWC is one of the best gaming forums I have ever visited. It is easy to distinguish it by its superiority in organization, quality of content and the interesting people you can have conversation with, not only about Total War games but also for Military History, as well as Politics and recent world news.
Q) Why the Dark side, and DARTH VADER?
Well I confess that it has no meaning to merge the Star Wars saga with the Total War series. This was not my intention by the way. The truth is that I was always a super fan of Star Wars so when I first joined the Total War forums (and TWC) I chose the name DARTH VADER as an Avatar. It inspired me. When I started to make my first mods, I started to think what name should I give… I am DARTH VADER so… DarthMod suited fine. Soon my mod became very popular and this surreal, transparent connection with Darth and all, sometimes leads to fun comments but surely makes my mod very easy to remember and spread its Logo. After all this time, when the fans see the Art & Logo that accompanies each of my mods (with Darth Vader appearing somewhere in the battlefield), all that speaks to their heart. Yes hilarious and funny but they know this is the real deal. DarthMod is a brand name which promises unique gameplay and realism that they can find only if they pass this unavoidable concept art.
Q) What was the first mod that you played?
You speak about Total War mods or in general? Hmm… the first first mod that I ever tried was Rome Total Realism which I liked and inspired me to continue with my own mods.
Q) What caused you to want to learn how to mod?
I am a gamer at heart so when I realized that I could make the games to play as I wanted, that was an opportunity I could not miss. Between 2004-2006 I have made mods for Medal of Honour (a realism mod that became popular in Greek Internet Cafés), Star Wars Empire at War and Pro Evolution Soccer. But soon Total War won my full dedication in game modding. I wanted to mod Total War badly because I was very much excited with large scale battles and because I found a lot of flaws that my strategic mind could not bear.
Q) Have you ever crashed out your games so bad you had to reinstall?
In my first steps as a modder this was very common…indeed. Now I always take multiple backups in order to revert to previous working states of the game. Wisdom comes with experience.
Q) Your favorite pre-modding meal?
Coffee (preferably Greek frappe) and a mix of Quaker products... they keep my brain healthy![]()
Q) Which historical site would you like to visit? Why?
I would like to visit all the great medieval castles of UK, France and Germany. This is my dream because from a small age I was always inspired about these magnificent defence buildings of the feudal ages.
Q) Zombie killing weapon of choice?
After this small travel I made with my mind to historical times and castles you ground me to the zombie trend. I hate zombies!!! I want to kill them all with a lightsaber and Force Lightnings!
Q) What lead you to create DarthMod?
This question is similar to that you did previously “What caused you to want to learn how to mod?”. I repeat more vigorously : DarthMod made me play Total War games as I wanted and as I believe they should be made. Modding is a tiring procedure and there were times I was thinking to quit. But I still continue to make DarthMods all these years because of the fans that show their appreciation of my efforts massively at my sites.
Q) Do you have any other project besides the DarthMod line?
No. Total War consumed my modding efforts totally. If I had time I would like to mod other games too such as Mount & Blade series, 1C publishing games (such as Men of War, Theatre of War, Real Warfare 2) and Europa Universalis.
Q) What is your favorite feature that you have incorporated into DarthMod?
The AI formations which control how the AI positions itself in the battlefield (like a football team formation system) and affect very much the overall AI. Very few, only one I can think of, in the whole Total War community can mod this very crucial aspect with success. Modding formation AI, in ETW, NTA and S2TW is a very difficult procedure because you have to use the unofficial tool (thanks to taw and Hedge Knight for the work in this) to compile/decompile and also to program with certain scripts the formations. Since the unofficial tool is not reading all the information properly and the slightest mistake can lead to CTD, broken AI, a malfunctioned game, my formations which improve the battle AI are an accomplishment I feel proud of.
Q) What can the community expect next from DARTH VADER?
The community can expect my mods for the next Total War games, if and only if, the modding support by Creative Assembly is increased to a proper level. I will decide how much and with what means I will interfere with Total War games after the CA Modding Summit of July. I will always love Total War games, but if the difficulties to mod become more, then maybe it would be better to choose another hobby. What ever happens they will have the new gigantic update to DarthMod Empire (my mod for Empire: Total War). The DarthMod Empire 8.0 Platinum Edition will have a new launcher, a brand new, even more improved gameplay and AI system, 40 unit armies and many stuff which will keep players playing the game for ages. This summer 2012.
Q) Is there anything else you would like to say?
I would like to invite fans to the new sites of DarthMod at Twitter (www.twitter.com/DarthMod) and facebook (www.facebook.com/DarthMod). There they can learn the latest news about my mods and get support. Support is always needed for a modder as well, so a follow and a like does not hurt, does it? Thank you for your time and your questions.
An Interview with Dark Storm, By: Okmin
It's different, I'll admit. I enjoy handing out these ... interrogations ... so I suppose it's time for me to get a taste of my own medicine, so to speak. Hopefully I can answer the questions to a good standard and it doesn't become too boring for the reader1. First of all, how's it feel to be on the receiving end of one of these interviews for a change?![]()
Well Dark_Storm5 is a name I've used for years now on my PS3 account, so I suppose that I've just used it wherever I can, usually in that form or, where someone else hasn't taken the name already, I use Dark Storm. Dark Storm being my preferred username. Sirius Black however was something slightly different, I think that was more due to Beyond Potter, an on-forum RPG starting. This led to Ponti changing his name to Severus Snape, Horica to Lucius Malfoy and myself to Sirius Black.2. How'd you pick your name (and why Sirius Black, too)?
Initially I was looking for mods for Rome Total War and stumbled across the forums in late December 2010, downloaded Europa Barbarorum, then left again without signing up. The next time I arrived I had managed to break most of my Total War games having attempted to mod them or add mods to them and so I signed up in June 2011 to ask a few questions. Having had them answered I left once more before returning two months later having broken Empire total war beyond repair one afternoon when I was attempting to try my hand at modding again. It was this time that, looking on the front page, I noticed an announcement for the newly started rpg 'The Roman Struggle' and, slightly bored, with nothing better to do, I joined the game and since then, I haven't left.3. How did you find TWC? What made you stay?
Around here I mostly help moderate a few of the rpg games such as Beyond Potter, GSTK and The Roman Struggle, I also take part in these rpg's and enjoy playing them. On top of this I write for the Silver Shield and I am a Local Moderator for the Writer's Study, helping run some of the competitions in those forums and generally helping out.4. What do you do around here?
... Sit in a corner, crying to myself. Rocking back and forth hoping upon hope that soon I will be able to return once more to these forums ...5. What do you do when you're not on TWC?
Nah, mostly my life at the moment is a mix between Schoolwork (lot's of schoolwork), exams and going out to the park with my mates to play football (Proper football, not the American 'attempt'
.)
I don't know, 'bodyarmourrugbydeformedball' does have a certain ring to it6. Hey, what's wrong with our football? Other than the name. We call it that because "football" sounds a lot better than "bodyarmorrugbydeformedball".Anyway I have no problem with the game itself, my problem is what American's insist upon calling proper football. There is no such thing as 'soccer'
There've been a few, I distinctly remember something to do with Elephants (7. Moving on from the trans-Atlantic language barrier, do you have any favorite moments from those RPGs?), I enjoy writing battles I suppose and plotting to kill people's characters is always fun. I enjoy most of the stuff that happens in the various RPG's as it can get quite funny at times, whilst at other times you can become quite attached to a character you've been playing for half a year and it can be upsetting to one day see them in the firing line of someone else's, invariably Lw's, characters.
My favourite interview? Well I must admit I've liked all of them, however there's one that stands out, Robinsx's, he was one of my first 'victims' and I enjoyed interviewing him. I like interviews where the individual expands beyond one word answers and provides a lot of detail I suppose, which is what he did to a great extent8. And on a similar note, what was your favorite interview that you did?
Hmm, I hadn't really thought about it ... In fact I was wondering, are you averse to a spot of mild waterboarding? Because if not...9. Who's your next target for interrogation?
The Hotseat Situation, By: David93
Many of you may not have heard of hotseat or even know what hotseat is, well to get right to the thick of it Hotseat Forum this is the main hotseat forum where you will always find many campaigns raging and you will also find smaller communities within mod forums specific to that mod.
For those who dont know what a hotseat is its basically a multiplayer game where each player will take turns to play their factions, the term hotseat most likely originated from the constant swapping of seats on the old desktops. In playing a hotseat you abandon the dumb a.i. and can enter the proving ground of some of the best players around, but for those who might be intimidated the hotseat community regularly run a new bloods game with only new players allowed so they can gain some experience before facing of against our veterans. Our 2 interviewees are some of the best and most prolific "hotseaters" Invicta certified "Master Tactician" a title he won in the last round of hotseat awards, he's generally thought to be one of the best if not the best players out there and Jiub who's no slouch (to which i can testify as i remember him kicking my ass rather royally ) one of the "oldest" members as well as the local mod and hotseat community artist, 2 great veterans who have graced us with an interview.
Interview with Jiub
TWC was the first forum I joined ever. I loved Medieval 2 total war which I started playing in the summer of 2008, but after about a year of single player I wanted some multiplayer action. Thus, I found my way here. I joined and lurked for a while, before starting to be quite active in the Medieval 2 TW General Discussion sub-forums. Althou I came for online hotseats, I soon discovered mods, and got lost in them for quite a while.Originally Posted by David93

I never really liked just playing battles, the strategy map is what drew me most, so by divine intervention, I don't even remember how I stumbled upon some guys playing hotseats, and just my luck, they had a spot free for me. I'll never forget "Foxes and Lions", my first hotseat ever. I loved it. I loved playing with humans and enjoyed planning my turns against them, but surprisingly what I loved most at that time about the online hotseats was the politics of it all. I started my first hotseat quite aggressive and employed rough politics, and maybe that sounds bad, and maybe it was, but I have to admit I absolutely loved it.Originally Posted by David93

Well I must say that in single player there's no competition, Stainless Steel. I fell in love with that mod from the moment I laid eyes on it, It's in my opinion the best single player mod. Sorry, I just had to put it out there.Originally Posted by David93

You asked about my favorite mod for hotseats, well, I must admit KGCM is the best mod for hotseats because it is more balanced and more stable, while SS just isn't made for multiplayer.
Before coming to the forums, I was a big fan of the Elder Scrolls series. The name stuck with me from when I was playing Morrowind, and if you remember the Dark Elf on the boat with you at the start of the name was named Jiub, so I took his name from there on as my role-playing name.Originally Posted by David93
Why did you choose Jiub as your username?
Well, let's see. I spent about a year around here fiddling around the Med2 General Discussion sub-forum and with mods. Afterwards, I started playing hotseats for about five months, followed by another 6-7 or so months of hiatus because I had some important exams and stuff in real life, but after I came back here and I'm still here since then. I'd say that from the four years I've been here, I've been playing hotseats for more than half of the time.Originally Posted by David93

I like the unpredictability of it all. I like that humans are very creative and never fail to surprise you. I like doing a little bit of politics and role-play, even if I've dulled down with time. Summer vacation is right around the corner so I hope I can put more time into the forum activities, as well as more life into my gameplay.Originally Posted by David93

Well, since hotseats are pretty competitive, it's quite normal to get a bit hot headed at times and just get over-involved in the fate of your faction. There's a thin line that's easy to cross, and if you cross that line and things get a bit to emotional and things just aren't fun anymore. People quit, rage out, and it just gets out of hand and that's in my opinion the worse side of the hotseats.Originally Posted by David93

Well I always felt that a bit of art can bring a little more life into things. I think that having a good healthy artwork thread for the community is important to keep the imagination fueled.Originally Posted by David93
What made you decide to start doing the art for the HS comunity?
I started doing artwork for the community, and basically started using photoshop for the first time, last year, when I was putting together The Third Edition of the Hotseat Awards. I tried to get some artists to help me provide the event with some art, but kind of failed. I asked a friend to help but he declined too, so I saw no choice but to start learning some photoshop basics. I did manage to pull some signatures, not the best I admit, I also had an old pc monitor and the colors I saw were different from the colors that the signatures actually were (a bit too dark ... ). In any case, since then, I continued doing from time to time some artwork for the community. I guess I've improved a little, but it's still quite very basic imho. Nevertheless, I'll continue doing my best if the occasion calls for it.
I was pitched the idea about a year ago, and I accepted it because I thought it natural. I spent a lot of time on the forums, even now that I'm busy I visit the forums daily, so it was quite logical I became a local mod. I was around long enough to do the cleaning around, to be the maid, so I accepted because I liked being of help.Originally Posted by David93

I like this community a lot and am very proud for being a part of it. I always wondered how it would be to start moving around the forum and try different things like writing AAR's or trying to learn some 2d art... but never really got around to it. I guess my heart is still with the hotesats, so I'm gonna take my time and see what the future brings. In any case, one thing is for sure, I don't see myself leaving the forums anytime soon. Interview with Invicta
Well, I was a fan of RTW and Shogun TW (yeah..long way back..What drew you to TWC?).
At a certain point though I had played so much RTW that I get tired of playing it.
By coincidence it happened I found out that there were mods about the game.
I had no idea that there were mods for the game. It was 2005, and I started with RTR (around release 5.. just one or 2 months before the release 6.x got released). Since then I became addicted to the mods: so many ,so different..
Well after trying all the possible mods, in the end playing against the AI gets boring.. Again for years I didn't pay attention to the HS world. I noticed HS though in another forum, but since the HS I wanted to join was going to start in a few months, I thought to try someone here first..What drew you to hotseats?
Considering every aspect of playing a HS (balance among factions-particularly in AR battles-, variety of units , historical immersion and more..), I think that Stainless Steel 6.4 stand above the others by a good margin.Your favourite mod to play hotseats?
No particular reasonWhy did you choose invicta as your username?
Almost 2 years, and I played many also in other forums. How long have you been playing hotseats?
Best thing is that finally you have some real diplomacy, real role-play (which greatly enhances full immersion), and you don't have to fight against the dumb AI. And above all I love the thrill given by the fear of losing. What do you like most about hotseats?
Although that could be a double-edged sword: at the end of the day, nobody like to lose and so conflicts between players often rise for such reason
Well since nobody like to loose, it happened more than once that some player resorted to cheating. Or even more often it happens that players leave when they smell they're going to lose. But the first thing a player would notice is that they're very slow compared to a sp campaign: in most HS (obviously things might change depending on the number and quality of players) the average speed is of 1 turn per week (with 8-10 players). What annoys you most about hotseats?
With better organization is possible to overcome such issue: in Infamous we're keeping the speed of 1 turns per day (each player). Obviously it very much depend on the approach used by the players: many take hours to play a turn, while normally a turn shouldn't take more than 20 minutes (since we don't play battles on the battle map against other players, turns are supposed to be very shot).
All in all, despite the cons, whoever loves the game imo should try HS: it's really playing on different level. I can't see myself getting back on sp campaigns. You'd need to try to understand it.Anything else you would like to say?
An Interview with Narf, By: Dark Storm

So when and why did you join TWC?
Well, I joined June 22, 2010, to simply socialise. I joined to find some nice people to speak with, Huge success, I found that the forum was full of such Individuals.
What is your favourite aspect of TWC?
The teamwork, trust, and kindness that people show each-other. The whole feeling that we are a part of TWC and everything we contribute somehow contribute to us all and the site as a whole.
Can you tell us about your involvement in GSTK and maybe a bit about GSTK itself?
GSTK, a wonderful place to.. Get ones mind of things, and have fun. Some times it was the only reason i logged onto TWC, just to keep updated about the current intrigue, Like when Major Darling Stood with a army at my doorstep, that was tense. Or when the one armed Eric won the brawl in that tournament, funny to imagine. A lot of small things which make a fantastic whole. That is a good way to describe GSTK.
You are currently doing a course in the university, can you maybe explain that course and how it's going?
Well of-course, It is going forward as soon as you have made your assignment.. *Teacher Stare from.. Denmark* The course itself is meant to teach the abeslute Basics about Animating in Photoshop. Using the tools and such while still learning to make something useful. As to how fast it is going.. some *Stares* Students in the course have taken a lot longer than i thought it would, that is ok. And in the end of the course I'm going to ask them what they would like to learn, and that is what the next course will be about.
What do you feel are your main contributions to the site, what are you most proud of?
I haven't really contributed with anything of note to the site, I still have that on my to-do list.. And what am I proud of? Even tho it may not mean much, I am proud of my friends, The Staff, Moderators and the Hex, that keep this site going, The Thema Devia and Political Mudpit that equally make me wonder and laugh at times. Now while I don't have a hand in any of these things, I am proud. Proud to know such selfless and giving people.
Do you do any other work on the site and, if so, what does it entail?
Well beside the Animation Course I am helping Knight of Virtue and Valour with creating a Fantasy RPG, which is rather fun.
I'm also a proud member of The Content Art Staff which i really would like to participate more in, sadly I've been too busy to make anything but minors contributions in that part of the site.
Then there is the Helios, Properly the place I've spend most working hours.
I've been writing on a small Article about Northern Mythology. I've learned a lot, because I know some about the subject, but I sometimes didn't remember the details so I've been Re-Reading the Sagas and so on. And now I don't think I'll forget it again soon. So that have been boring. The reading I mean. And making it, The Writing.. But sending it off in the Helios is worth it all 100 times.
What are your future plans on the site?
Help where I can, when I can, same as always.
What do you feel is your greatest achievement is on the site?
Hmmm, I am very honoured that I got the Graphic Artist Award of 2011.
What has been the greatest factor in keeping you interested in the site?
The fantastic people here, the community. The 'family'.
Has anyone on the site influenced you, is there anyone here you aspire to be like?
Inspired me? Many, I mean. There is MANY people on this site that I LOVE. So many awesome and unique personalities.. ALOT of people have inspired me, Some of the first being, MasterBigApp and Legio. Like back when i had... 50 posts.. Want to be like anyone? Never thought about that, I would like to one day to be able to help as globally as some do, like Ishan, Squid, GeD and Magic, I find that they are always there with a kind helping hand, I really admire that.
How successful do you feel your course has been?
Super Success, all in it have expressed satisfaction so far.
What obstacles did you face whilst making it?
Making a 1000 PX x 6000 GiF file as a lesson is just generally hardAnd it takes a lot of time, making it so that it is easy to follow and so on, took some weeks with Lesson one, a few days with lesson two.
Did you enjoy doing the course?
Yes, I love sharing knowledge and teaching people stuff.
What tips would you give to people deciding to make their own course?
Do it, but be patient, prepare it well, take it slow, don't announce it before it is done, I made that mistake.
Are there any of your students you are particularly proud of and why?
I'm proud of them all
An Interview with Lord Hamilton, By:SonofPeverel
Q) Lord Hamilton, what led you to the glory that is TWC?
Oh wow, it's been quite a while. I was a long time lurker before I finally took the plunge and created an account. I have been familiar with TWC since at least the Medieval I days, but really found value in the site when I went looking around for RTW mods following a hiatus from Total War gaming (what was I thinking haha).
Q) Why Lord Hamilton?
Pretty simple. Hamilton's my last name, and Lord because it makes it sound that much cooler, haha. Funny story about my name though - my wife recently found out about my username on TWC, and now makes fun of me pretty much all the time about it (me: honey, could you grab me a drink on your way through? her: well of course Lord Hamilton, is there anything else you desire?) Definitely learned my lesson on that one.
Q) What was the first mod that you played?
Great question. My first modding experience with Total War games would have been Rome: Total Realism back in the day. My discovery of Stainless Steel pretty much got me started down the dark, twisted path that is M2TW modding. Before Total War modding, I'd played around with stuff for MSFT's Combat Flight Simulator Series, Call of Duty (the original), and the old Rainbow Six (Rogue Spear).
Q) What caused you to want to learn how to mod?
I've always had a thing for improving the accuracy of games, historical or otherwise. Anything I can do, or learn to do, to make games more authentic (at least to my mind) is always something I strive for.
Q) Why unit creation?
2 reasons:
1) I'm a very visual person. Not so much a fan (or capable) of the crazy advanced scripting/coding stuff I've seen so many here do so well (especially on the WotW team). Eye candy is what always gets me.
2) TBH, I'm not a huuuuge fan of the campaign mode of Total War games. Sure it's fun, but the huge real-time battles are what keep me glued to the series. As such, editing units has always been my passion - I like being able to actually "see" the results of my work.
Q) Have you ever crashed out your games so bad you had to reinstall?
Haven't we all?
Q) Your favorite pre-modding meal?
Dead animal parts and fermented beverages.
Q) Which historical site would you like to visit? Why?
Wow, great question. I've always wanted to visit the Normandy beach-heads and hamlets from WWII. Thinking medievally, I'd love to get over to Britain at some point and see some of the castles, battlefields, etc. Our oldest "historical sites" here in my neck of the woods (Northeastern US) are about 250-300 years old - I wanna see some older stuff.
Q) Zombie killing weapon of choice?
The best zombie killing weapon is preparation.
In lieu of preparation, however, I'd settle for one of these bay boys:
Q) What lead you to WOTW?
Our glorious leader Polycarpe (all rep to him!) reached out to me waaay back when after he had seen some units I'd been working on for Stainless Steel. Western Europe has always interested me, and it seemed like there was a pretty good team in place, so I gave it a shot. Glad I did - I honestly feel that WotW is one of the best WIP mods out there for M2TW.
Q) On a scale of 1-10 how well to you like the WOTW mod team?
Gonna have to kick it up to 11 for this one (the team is great). Only member I'm not too fond of is this one guy...I think he's a Texan, username rhymes with RumshoveCleverel or something - do you know him?
Q) What is your favorite unit that will be in War of the West?
Jeez, the great questions keep on coming. I'd say its tough to have a "favorite" unit thus far, although I am quite partial to the knights and their caparisoned mounts. I'd say my favorite "units" for WotW are some of the special characters we've done, like William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Edward I, etc. They look super cool in-game, and I can't think of any other historical mods that have tried this.
Q) What can the community expect from the next WOTW preview?
Well my friend, I wouldn't want to steal your thunder on this, haha. Of course the team's next preview will be awesome though. Hopefully we'll have more than just a preview to share with the community real soon...
Q) It seems everyone knows your amazing units from the WOTW previews, but what are some of your other projects?
The only other thing I've released is an old unit pack for Stainless Steel (and any other mods that want to use it). Not much compared to what we get to play with in WotW, but they definitely an improvement on vanilla. I also have a basic 2D art service thread in the Artist's Forum - I can do logos, custom sigs, etc. Always love helping out where I can!
Q) Is there anything else you would like to say?
Thanks for the great interview - it's an honor to be featured in the glorious Silver Shield! Also, I'd also like to take a quick second to thank the wider TWC modding community. I've dabbled in mods for other games here & there, but never have I found such a collaborative, helpful, and supportive environment anywhere else on the web. You guys rock!
Finally, it needs to be said here that nothing I do could have been done without some really amazing work from a lot of key unit makers on the forum - especially the Ruischi Team and King Kong. You all have set new standards of greatness for what can be done with this aging (but aging gracefully) game engine, and have really upped the ante for some of us relative newcomers. Thank you for all that you've done. It has been a major inspiration (and resource) for my efforts as a humble modder.
