    Default Defending an Ally Castle.

    Hi,

If an ally castle has gone under siege, how do I help defend it? If I stay in the red zone as the enemy attacks, I will join as a reinforcement, but not as an actual defender. Is there anyway I can do it so that I am inside the castle and defending it?

    Regards,
    Mike

I think it's not possible. That would mean the enemy is camping outside your ally's gates and then you somehow manage to get past them and inside the castle.

Well yes, but equally I have been waiting at the castle to defend it for a while because I knew the enemy was coming.

You could attack the enemy army while it besieges the city. The garrison will reinforce your army on the battlefield.

Hmmm, that's true, but I'd still like to defend the walls with my allies. I guess it's not possible though. Thanks for the help guys!

Mackey does have a point though. It would be cool if you could reinforce an army like the Elves did at the Hornburg in the movie.

It's okay Macilrille, I'm only using the movie as an example!

Maybe it could be coded that it is possible for allies to defend custom settlements inside of the walls. It will probably need some toying with the deployment areas. I don't know how to do it though, I think the only 2 people who do know how to do it are Leo and King Kong the man(or ape) himself.

But it will need some serious tweaks. If the AI is the reinforcing defending army, then it will need to understand that the situation is changed. It will probably take a long time to code, although it is something nice for the future.

Speaking of deployment areas in custom settlements. When you have multiple attacking armies in a custom battle, in 3.2 they spawn behind the castle in the mountains (if it's Helm's Deep for instance). I swear they fixed this in 3.1.

Īt is possible. When the battle begins, you run as fast as you can into the castle/city. But you will never start IN the city!

The question was, could you defend an ally castle in sieges, and start IN the city.

That would be . But that would make the game too easy . It could be that the allying army has ?% chance to sneak in the ally castle/settlement, depending on how big the allying army is and how big the enemy army is.

that would mean, if you lost the battle you army is also lost and destroyed. if you act as ally you can leave the battlefield and take revenge.

I don't think you can ever do that, no matter what tweaks we are talking about. I think it's embedded into the game engine so that you are NOT able to do that.

as far as I undestand deployment-areas, it would not be possible.
you have the city itself and then the 8spots around, one is used by the attacking army and on one your support-forces are standing.
so if the battle begins, the armies standing around the settlement start where they stood on the camp-map.
if you now change, that the deployment-area is in the settlement, well then the attacker starts there as well - would be fun

but yes, it would be cool to share the battlements with your allies.
so if some of the modders want to try...

Well, I know that I've never seen it done on a campaign map. I do, however, seem to recall that all defending armies are deployed inside the walls during custom siege battles. (Or at least they used to... in one of the games? I have a distinct recollection of this, but not of the specific game for which it was the case.)
