Thread: What kind of a game will really satisfy you?

Default What kind of a game will really satisfy you?

from what i can gather from the threads, only a game made by god will do.

But then, even if it is made by a god it may be called the wrong god.

so what exactly do people want?

Good AI- what is that? An AI that can defeat you 100% of the time?

Historic accurate? There's like 100 tribes of Gaul alone how will that work?

Realistic speeds? Battles will take forever

Be able to Mod? Well, i guess that's pretty cool, but this is a total war game not Trials Evolution.

    So what is it?

Personally, I found all total war games fun. The way to do that is I went in expecting to have fun and just play a video game, not looking for flaws whether big or small. So most of the bugs I didn't even realize were there.

If I could autosave and reload my life at times I'd be totally satisfied.

You don't want autosave, it usually saves at the stupidest points.

    Go for manual save feature

It took a lot less than that.

Did it even stop? Seemed to me it just instantly started immediately after the announcement.

Maybe just one that doesn't use the exact same tactics every battle and maybe has a chance at winning without pumping up their stats ridiculously.

Historic accurate? There's like 100 tribes of Gaul alone how will that work?
This one is a bit bigger but a general level of realism would be nice. Considering the original it's hardly surprising people would be going for this.

Realistic speeds? Battles will take forever
    At least more realistic fatigue.

Be able to Mod? Well, i guess that's pretty cool, but this is a total war game not Trials Evolution.
Honestly Total War games gain a lot from modding and I cannot play the more recent titles without mods anymore. The older ones stand up with Vanilla but the new ones are lousy without. Discounting the value of modding is silly.

Rome: Total War is one of the favourite games of a lot of people (myself included) and represents what a lot of people think is the best of the series. It's only fair we want a sequel to live up to it.

I would like to see AI with a plan. It doesnt need to be perfect plan, but i would like to see entire enemy army to have certain plan and stick with it. I really hated the fact that for example in ETW every unit attacked on its own without any grand plan in mind... it was like lemmings running at the edge of cliff, so all you had to do is kill them with your troops... If enemy AI forms certain (historically well known) battle strategy (refused flank, strong center possition etc..) and stick with it, player would have feeling he is fighting real enemy general, not just bunch of units that are coming at him.. Also if AI needs to change the battle plan, make it so it wont change it too often - seeing AI army reforming like crazy (ETW again) while my guns are bombarding them long range was just (ridicu...)not right. Sometimes less is actually more.

High moddability and engine efficiently, especially in melee (Shogun 2 seemed to strongly lack this, although it was alot more efficient than M2TW, actually). A ability to micromanage your empire at all times, with a auto-manage option left in for those who don't want to.

Above all else I want modding potential. I already know CA will fall short of my expectations of historical accuracy, so I would like them to leave the engine open to modification by those that care.

There is no excuse to make it less mod-able the previous releases. Everyone wins. We get great mods, and like other companies that allow modding, they improve the lifespan of their game by a great amount. The games with the greatest lifespans and the most loyal fanbases are the ones that allow fans to use their own creativity to make something out of the game engine - Valve's Half-life series, Blizzard's warcraft and starcraft, Rome and M2TW - all games that have been popular well passed their release dates, partly because they live on through great mods and custom maps.

Lots and lots of little details.

Great sound effects and quality voice acting

An open tech tree and a sandbox world where player actions and the living world have the greatest impact on what historical events are produced.

I'm looking for mod-ability. Not cause I could, no, I'm technologically challenged to the point I can't even install RS2(you may laugh, I already do) but I have managed to install RTR Platinum. I've played that game for so many years I've lost count and I'll prolly keep playing it if Rome 2 only comes as vanilla. I can live with a broken AI seeing as how I could not program anything better. I can live with the computer attacking me without reason because their really is a reason, I am the biggest threat on the board every turn, every game.
Even if I'm out numbered and out resourced(and this actually goes for all of us) we could all turn the tide easily. Sure I'd like a good working diplomacy system, but that falls under AI and I can do no better so I live with it.

I just want re-playability. That means mods.
Unless they come out with a perfect product, which I do not expect from them.
They're human, and catering to a large audience, nothing would be perfect.

Battles will not "take forever" with realistic speed. Haven't you played Darthmod or anything at all? What a stupid statement...typical ADD gaming.

a porn game is no solution long term but it may "satisfy" the one or other

beside that i would be satisfied if Rome 2 would just be Rome 2 (so principally same game with some bugs fixed, and now better engine and look) and not a next gen Rome but who cares about our wishes anyway i think my opinion is not same of the masses that need new stuff all the time and that comes around half finished and bugged like Shogun 2 or Medival 2 or Empire or even Napoleon.

I would be satisfy with any evolutions for the franchise that make sense.
First if we could stop losing good mechanics of previous games without reason while keeping some annoying one.
Realism should be the main line to follow as the games are based on history.

For now I grow tired of games with mainly aesthetics change.
(Though the replenishment system is a good one. If only CA would support modding some wonderful things could be achieve.)

If i had to put a label on my perfect strategy game, it would mix influences from a few areas.

    The Anno series:

Ill be honest, im big into the Anno series. Why? Because when it comes to strategy games that make you think, while keeping things simple and understandable they are unmatched. I love the economic challenges of this series, and always wished that either it, or Total War could take influence from one another. Having similar micromanagement over my cities in Total War, or having the wonderful battle system in Anno.

    Men Of War

My favorite part of Men of War is the amount of micromanagement available o the battlefield, god only knows how many times i wish i could break off small contigents from my formations in Total War for specialized missions, or combine units in combat into mixed formations of light and heavy infantry, cavalry, or embedded artillery pieces.

Aside from this, a simple attrition, and better diplomatic system would make Total War my all around choice.

    campaign mutiplayer 4 person
slow down speed of battles so units dont run 30 mph and so units dont run first sight of enemy
    minimal rps system
    realism.

^This. In fact this goes out to the majority of developers who make my favorite games. It's the same complaint no mater what you're playing. I think it's part of this corporate consumerist philosophy that change is required not to fix or improve, but to switch things up with the idea it will be fresh and attract new consumers.

How about this one for philosophy? Don't fix something that anit broke!

We had this in RTW, you could group off and assign an AI general on the battlefield on the fly, to which you could still assume control over if necessary. I'd like this back please.

Do you mod? Because I really think you should take up modding or get involved with a team. Trust me it's much better to have some real input into the game than hope someone will read and agree with your wall of doom.

Screw that, I want a full fledged multiplayer campaign, ever since Hotseat gave us a taste for what a 21 player game *could* feel like, I will settle for nothing less.

I do, in fact. However most of the things I like aren't modable into any Total War game to date thanks to engine limitations (some of them rather silly and frustrating).

The things I can easily mod into a game aren't there because precisely that, they are easy to mod in. Have you read it? Apparently not, in the first paragraphs I say something along those lines.

    Fun facts:

Did you know Lord Baal's Wall of Doom have:
    - Have 15.694 readable words? This not taking the "Spoiler Alert, click show to read: " sentences.
    - It's divided in 270 paragraphs?
    - It takes 23 spoiler alerts to make it barely readable?
    - Given that the average adult can read up 250 to 300 words per minute, it would take between an fifty two minutes to an hour plus a couple of minutes to read it? But since average proofreading goes up to 200 words per minute, at least 72 minutes would be needed to proofreading it?
    - Did you know reading this facts take on average took you about 34 seconds?
