Not once have I seen a credible source of CA saying this, and it's been proven false now anyway.

They've been playing with gunpowder weapons since Empire: Total War, released in 2009. They do have the change the formula at some point you know.

I didn't buy the 'FoTS must be a testbed for another gunpowder game' crap for a second. As I repeatedly said, FoTS points to Victorian/WW1 about as much as Empire/Napoleon points to Shogun 2.

Told you so.

Gunpowder didn't exactly dominate those two games though, did it? Compare the amount of gunpowder units to melee units and you'll see what I mean.

Historical accuracy is important to a degree, you know. I don't want fake roman ninja units because they never existed nor do I want recruitable gladiators because that's ridiculous. It's fine if CA thinks "well Carthage needs another tier of infantry before the Sacred Band so we'll add the XYZ infantry" or something.
