HoI3 was quite a dissapointment at start.
It makes quite some things different as HoI2 games. Some design decsions might not be liked, but thats about personal taste. It has a quite different style in many fields and needs to learn/adopt to parts of the game anew.
It still has some bugs after the last expansion, but is of great fun compared to HoI3 first incarnation.
Truly envolved to the better, like so many games of Paradox.

Now, BL-Logic is doing, based on the HoI3 engine, a new game about cold war era.
This is not HoI3 this will be EvW..

Even more in a way as AoD/DH/IC were already not HoI2. As those shared the same timeline and added "just" some great missed features.(To be fair they also added differnt design to some extend, or will add that after time like DH. I have AoD/DH myself.)
EvW will add new timeframe and complete design changes. Just look at the screens and announced features more closely and I'm sure any strategy fan will get excited.

I'm surprised to see so many negative voices about East vs. West. Personally, every time I played a HoI3 campaign with a Allied or Comintern member, all I really cared about was to create a post 1945 environment that would allow a Cold War (and Cold War gone hot) scenario.

I am REALLY excited about this!

I've suddenly been taken by a desire to make sure that the glorious French Colonial Empire remains to stand as a bulwark against vile communism.

Hope they extend the customization from ships to tanks and planes.

Yeah, France will be my first choice of country to play too. I shall hold on to Indochina at all costs, even if it costs me the blood of thousands of Vietnamese and German ~~cannon fodder~~ legionnaires. Vive la France!
