Europa Barbarorum I would say. The amount of detail on pretty much everything from buildings, to map, to units, to events is astounding. This is probably the most researched mod for a Total war game in my opinion. Not to mention that the map is gigantic, and your units are also region based so its not that repetitive. Also Europa Barbaroum has not focused on only one faction as some mods focused on Rome or the Greek cities, but made each faction have their unique reforms, building types, and possibility to compete with the world powers. If you are going for a epic and historical accurate campaign (With units, Sarmatia never took Rome) then I would go for EB.
