Default It can't come quickly enough..

    Hey all,

Long, longtime player of all MTW mods and lurker here on TW forums but just recently joined up officially. I've been playing Stainless Steel since the early days and have tweaked and re-tweaked my own version of SS 6.4 to meet my exacting historical and graphical tastes. But I have to say - from what I've learned about this mod I am SO impressed by the level of detail and research that is going into this groundbreaking mod.. I am overwhelmed by it all. It almost sounds too good to be true! In particular I am really excited about the new additions for the Italian city states, representing the commune government system, Condottiere mercenaries etc. (I'm a huge fan of this particular chapter of medieval history) And don't even get me started on the new Norman unit roster.. absolutely freakin fantastic. Pacco's shields.. I could go on and on.

I know you guys have heard all the fanboy back-patting and 'reps' a million times before, but I just wanted to emphasize sincerely from the heart that I truly think this will be the mod to end all mods for Total War and I congratulate you wholeheartedly on raising the bar so high with this work.

    cheers guys!

    Hey there!

On behalf of the team, let me say thank you, it's the encouragement and love we get from the community that drives us relentlessly towards releasing the mod.

We are literally working around the clock to release the mod that all of you have been waiting for years.

Grant us your patience for just a little bit more, and we hope that we shall deliver the most unique gaming experience you guys have ever had that does is uncompromisingly accurate in terms of historical accuracy.

    Let me misquote Archimedes:
"Give us the tools to mod and we shall move the world".

To all the folks out there who await to forge their own destiny in the medieval world, we shall supply the hammers and anvils that ye shall need.
    Dominion of the Sword
    Hammer & Anvil
    Coming soon.

all the start date family trees and characters
    all the map done
all the 500 new units assigned to the trees
all the hundreds of brand new titles added
working additions of scripts and features
1.7GBs (over 500 tracks) of new music
    1.7 GBs of cinematics
Believe me when I say it's coming soon.

Diodredai, I've tried to figure this thing out, but I can't: what's this Hammer and Anvil thing? It obviously recalls something like "work in progress". Is it an alpha version or what?

As far as I know, and others may correct me, it's a release of the mod's basic features, so pretty much everything will be there, but certain things won't for example be historically accurate simply because we haven't had the time to research it all (like the PSFs, which is a massive job). So with Hammer and Anvil we're working towards releasing a working version of the mod, not a complete version, so people can play and give us feedback on what to improve

    Hopefully that answers your question!

No problem! We do this for you guys, and we do make this mod with all the love and care it requires, so as long as we are given the time to nurture this flower, I'm sure everyone will enjoy it in the end!

Cheers mate sorry for the late reply!

We will name our releases based on the theme of our release. In the future we shall be support DotS with patches, additional features (voice-mods, historical battles, perhaps even model cities akin to that of Third Age Total War's Minas Tirith! - all of this is just plans right now), therefore all of this is DotS, but we give it an epic name basically.

Hammer & Anvil alludes to the fact that the game is just coming out of development: we've hammered out a mod on the Total war anvil if you will!

Haha I'm delighted to hear that as I'm the department leader of the Hungarians in DotS so you'll be seeing a lot of my work!

Where did you get that mate? I'm specifically referring to this part here: "certain things won't for example be historically accurate simply because we haven't had the time to research it all (like the PSFs, which is a massive job)."

I'll have you know I've personally spent months researching the Hungarian PSFs, and I can say that for all of our developers. Our mod is strictly based on realism and historical accuracy, as far as we can bend the Total War engine.

"So with Hammer and Anvil we're working towards releasing a working version of the mod, not a complete version, so people can play and give us feedback on what to improve "

Exactly, although I'd dispute the statement that it isn't a 'complete version'. We shall be supporting and adding new features to DotS once it releases naturally as all mods do. It shall be nonetheless the most historically accurate experience taking form in the medieval ages of Europe and the Middle-East. Of course we'll take into account feedback and bug reports to improve DotS to a near perfect form!

I'm not at all trying to deny the aim of this mod: historical accuracy, but I'm pointing out that currently a lot of the PSFs still need reviewing, and that will probably go on after the first release, and the same is the case for other things. Being one of the researchers currently working on making this mod as historically accurate as possible, I can safely say that our work will not be finished with the first release, and things will get better and truer to history with every patch.

then it's not enough. LOL joking
Still I'd rather pay for this instead of Rome 2 for a lot of reasons. But they are 2 completely different things so a comparison between them doesn't make much sense.

The unforunate thing is that although the game play as well as the graphics are fantastic for Rome II, historically Europa Barbarorum 2 will own it's ass on so many historical levels.

Anyway it's going to be interesting. Shogun 2 was a suprise to me as I noted very few historical flaws (for example the Tokugawa were a completely unimportant small clan not a clan owning a province at the start date, and the Yari Ashigaru were using an inaccurate version of the Yari used back then).

So I'd just plug in an ad for the EB2 guys if you folks like that era, EB2 shall be on par with DotS that I can say for sure (albeit both play in a different era).

Me too as well. I think you mentioned you were going to have Dome's units from Magyar, but I'm also very interested to see how the map and campaign works with Hungary since you guys did all the upgrades.

So, when you say soon, do you mean by the end of the month? Or is that estimate too rough?

"Soon" could be anywhere between now and 24 December. After that there won't be any of us left to play the mod, after all.
