My problem with New Vegas and why I prefer Fallout 3

I like the NV Brotherhood because it's the BOS instead of the Blades with laser guns.

The East Coast cub scouts might have been "likable" but they weren't the Brotherhood of Steel.

True. They are better than the WBOS though from my POV it's not because they're likeable.
They identify and fight threats. WBOS hides in their tombs until they find something shiny. Their attempts to fight anyone other than raiders have resulted in defeat. They barely fought the Super Mutants, they didn't fight the Enclave, they were defeated by the NCR, those sent East to hunt Super Mutants deserted and so on.
They adapt to low manpower. Even so little as an auxiliary force in a nearby shanty town would help the WBOS. Instead they just sit back and do nothing.
Have diplomacy greater than an alleyway mugger. WBOS weakest point.

The Western Brotherhood is a rotting corpse of broken ideals. The only purpose they served was to give me power armor.

FO3 had random encounters? Don't remember ever seeing much of it.

There are some great random encounters in FO3. Quite a lot. Get the GOTY version because it`s all there. Pleas from escaped slaves, fights over a cache of water, highway type robberies of either you or someone else, mysterious people giving you stuff, etc, etc...

I guess everyone`s different, but for me it`s not about the scripted story. In fact Bethesda games aren`t about the scripted story, that`s usually added in to give the Player an overall goal. the real beauty of Bethesda games since Morrowind is to create your own story, your own personal adventure. In real life we do just this.

It becomes a personal story, a personal game. I can write a diary on it and No one else`s game is quite like mine.

This is why I LOVE these kind of games.

I guess we don`t all see it this way, that`s fine, the world is made up of all sorts.

...Which is the point of the BOS, they're meant to be a subversion of the sort of group shown in Fallout 3. The Outcasts are the Brotherhood done right, but they're "evil" for some reason. I think Bethsoft doesn't understand neutrality.

The Codex directly bans involvement with "locals" and the Brotherhood doesn't exist to fight Super Mutants.
