    Default religion vs culture

i'm building a new mod, and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on the pros and cons of using the religion scheme from vanilla vs the culture scheme from kingdoms. which would/did you use for your mod, and why?

I think it would depend on whether or not you want religion to play a role. so depends on the mod itself. I am working on a mod called DotC and all the factions in it share the same religion but have slightly different cultures, so i opted for the britania method over religion. With that said, i am trying to think of inventive ways to use the religion aspect of the game to represent something completely different.

As far as pro's and con's go it once again depends on the setting of the mod. If you plan on having a papal-like faction then i assume religion would be the go. Otherwise, culture. But the pro of using them both can be greater, then you can have factions of the same culture with separate religions. And whether or not you wish to use priests or not.

thanks, tsarsies. i'm looking at a mod where there are different religions, but you could just as easily use culture as religions. i'm trying to figure out the functional in-game differences, some of which you mentioned, like priests and a papal faction. i'm trying to see how other people weighed which model to use in their mod.

so, any other thoughts out there?

Is there a way to remove the "papal faction"? and how do you enable both culture and religion at the same time? :S

Yes, remove the papal faction attribute in descr_sm_factions, remove the papal faction in descr_strat.

No because culture is in fact just renamed religion.

There is a difference between the original culture and the original religion. To avoid confusion you shouldn't refer to the modified religion (now 'culture') as culture.
The original culture determines interface textures, building models, portraits and other UI elements. Your modified religion cannot do that.
