Finally got around to watching the episode.

You've got to give it to the writers, they're unpredictable. They follow up the best show of the series with by far the worst show of the series. Can't say I was bored but I thought the vast majority of the episode was a massive bag of shite.

    1. Only a minor thing, but what is this shows deal with fighting trials by combat in tiny areas with people all around the edges? Is it actually supposed to look cool or something? To me it just looks ridiculous. They did it for Tyrion's trial and now they've done it for Sandor's. Watching the combatants falling over buckets and the people watching running away as if they didn't realise they might get hurt is bloody stupid. I'm just sitting there thinking, did these people not realise all this would happen when they chose to fight in a tiny room with a fire in the center?

    2. Thoros is still pissing me off. They've just turned his character into a ****ing clown.

    3. After all the leaving out important scenes, changing scenes needlessly etc., I still find it amazing that when a book scene is based on sex they'll spare no expense to get it in the show. The Jon and Ygritte scene was basically word for word the same as the book.

    4. The Arya and Gendry scene was bloody shameless. Clearly just a ploy to get more female and make those who believe in the Arya/Gendry love story swoon. "You'd be my lady", eh yeah she's like 11 and hasn't hit puberty yet and he's about 16, I don't think I'm exaggerating by saying that those who like that love story are violent pedophiles.......

    5. I thought the Karstark scene was done well, except for Robb. I now agree, his wife is so annoying. Everyone saying that he should spare the Karstarks but he goes and executes them anyway just made look like Robb was insane. He's an idiot, yes, but not insane.

    6. Stannis' storyline has just gone to absolute scrap. They've totally ruined it this season and those 10 or so minutes of his story were some of the worst TV I've seen in recent times. Test tube babies, what in the ****? And Stannis calling Davos a traitor, seriously?

    7. The softcore gay porn was great! Really accurate to the books, was vital to the progression of the story and well, I just love seeing random gay kissing when I'm watching TV

    8. Cersei marrying Loras ffs! And Loras is the heir to Highgarden? Are the writers just trying to trip themselves up and make the story a mess?

Once again, Brienne and Jaime had to come the rescue and save the show some dignity. Those two should just have their own spin-off series because their amazing acting is being brought down by the rest of the show.

Other than that, all I got from this show was that all the changes that the writers made has finally caught up with them and now the storyline is spiralling out of control into a big mess.

I found it was quite obvious some comic relief and just put in there as a lighthearted quip and for the actors to have fun given they only have pretty dark stuff going on there all the time. The second episode of it being mentioned actually wasn't about Pod but about the fact Varys knows everything and gobbles up all information like a sponge regardless of it's seeming irrelevance.

And I found it kind of fun that Podrick's valor gets rewarded by Tyrion and Bronn who are very loose in their sexual morals even if he's just a minor character.

Can't wait for the fart jokes to start then. I mean why not throw in a little bit of some light-hearted "humor" to soften the edges? Maybe we can tangentially connect it to some kind of exposition on one of the characters as well while we're at it, you know, cause we're so clever and funny.

I feel some clarification is needed on the matter of army sizes.

16k from the North + 4k Freys + 2-4k Riverlanders under the Mallisters and others.
16k, mostly foot, with Roose, and 6k, mostly horse, with Robb.
    -4000 Freys
    -3000 Karstarks
    -casualties, a couple thousand
+12k men in the army under Edmure
That's what Robb has south of the Neck.
Lannisters - significantly more, but never really specified, and confusing troop mentions
Initially, they have 60k troops, of which Tywin and Jamie command 30k each.
Initially the Lannisters had two armies: first army under Tywin, 30k, and second army under Jaime - around 15k. The second army got wiped out almost completely during the battle of the Whispering Wood.
Tywin comissioned Stafford Lannister to muster a third army of 10k men, but it was destroyed by Robb at Oxcross.
Tyrell - new numbers, but confusing ones!
Littlefinger mentions them having "the largest army after Lannister and Stark". This makes little sense since Renly's initial host is supposed to be 100k, which is Tyrells and Stormlands combined (- Stannis).
Lady Olenna: "12k infantry + 1800 cavalry + 2000 support". This seems really, really low. Maybe she was just talking about the troops currently guarding the capital? Some 16k total would be ridiculously low considering what we know about the Renly / Lannister troops.
Exact Tyrell numbers remain a mystery and we can only assume the number given in the show are incomplete.
    This:
This seems really, really low. Maybe she was just talking about the troops currently guarding the capital?
The total force they've raised at this time is around 70'000 men, in three armies - one at the capital, one in the northern part of the Crownlands under Randyll Tarly, and one laying siege to Storms' End.

Stannis - initially has the bigger part of the Royal fleet, which is supposed to be smaller than the Iron fleet (and not all fighters) + the hired pirates.
He probably has some Stormland troops loyal to him over his brother as well
Let's say he has about 8k initially. He takes over Renlys troops after Renlys death.

The real question is how the 100k in Renlys army are divided into Stormland and Tyrell loyalists. We can only say that Tyrell has at least half or more, since the Tyrell part + the Lannisters beat the Renly part + Stannis at the blackwater.
Most of the Stormland lords went over to Stannis, while the Reach troops fell back with the Tyrells. So Stannis had around 20k men, mostly mounted.

    Totaled that would leave:
    Lannister: 35k~25k in the field
North: 13k~20-25k south of the Neck, with about 2/3 as many still unraised.
    Tyrell: 40k~70k in three armies

You are overreacting, the joke is not about the boy but is even tyrion who is constantly in scene with whores is impressed, and it will help you non book readers to link things will happen after, so yea chill up and dont make assumptions

About the armys. With only information of the show but a bit of knowledge of the books

    Riverlands Theatre

    Tywin
divide his troops between him and his son
    Jaime
beat the riverlands at the battle of Golden Tooth (not mentioned at the show)

    Tywin
    before Whispering woods, about 30k
Jaime before Whispering woods, about 25k
Robb before Whispering woods, about 18k

Robb commanded 2k to die and hold Tywin
Robb used the remaining 16k to destroy Jaime army with littler loses
Robb now have the Riverlands army and allegiance (7k?)
Robb have now about 23k troops

Tywin hold Harrenhall with 30k and request recruitament of new troops to Stafford Lannister
Stafford Lannister have 10k newly recruited holding the only way to Castle Rock
Robb Atacked Stafford Lannister and destroy his army and open a way to Castely Rock
Robb Lay siege to The Craig (just near Castely Rock) and other castles, to force Tywin to attack Riverrun

Tywin move to defend Kings Landing with about all his army minus some to garrison Harrenhall (speculating about 3k)

    Robb
Riverland and some northman army under Mallister seized an opportunity to attack Harenhall when The Mountain was gone to kill the Brotherhood Without Banners, and losed a lot of men (assumption: 3k)
Roose is at Harenhall now with 2k troops
Robb Army march to Riverrun with 18k troops - 12k north and 6k riverland
Robb lost half the northman army with karstarks execution 6k
    Robb
ask the garrison of Riverrun to fill the ranks, now he have about 6k northman and 10k riverlanders
Robb will go to Lord Walder frey to ask more troops (mind you, the freys are the second most powerfull house in the riverlands and have almost all his men left)

    Kings Landing Theatre

Stanis have a small army (4k ?) but a huge navy (mostly the royal navy who he comanded at Robert reign, this go back to even the greyjoy rebellion)
Renly Allied with the Tyrells and now have 100k, speculating 40k Stormlanders and 60k Tyrells
Renly dies and the 60k Tyrells resign the war, all 40k Stormlanders go to Stanis
Stanis have now 44k army and a huge navy
Kings Landing have 6k Golden cloaks + about 500 lannister troops

Important - Tyrion say they are outnumbered at 5 to 1 ate the prelude of Blackwater
Important - Garrison without real engangment in the war and unraised armys are not conted
Extra Important - The riverlands lose about all they troops to Jaime before Whispering woods

    Blackwater
Kings Landing With Tyrion leadership, Kings Landing hold Stanis and lose a lot of men (assumption lets put it the 5k Golden Cloak and all Lannister troops)
Tywin Attack their flank with his 27k plus the 15k (or all the 60k Tyrells)
Assumption Lanister + Tyrells lose 10k troops
Stanis lose all his army and ships at Blackwater
Stanis Now have only 2k of his army and only the pirate navy remaining
Tyrells Garrison 15k at Kings Landing
Kings Landing Now have 15k Tyrells troops, 23k Lannister troops + 1k Golden Cloak (assumption)

Spoilers to what will happen next and where is the rest of the Tyrells (no major spoilers)
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Tyrells with the command of Randyll Tarly (yes, Sam Father) have a big army (the rest of the 45k Tyrells) they start to kill the karstark mans who abandon Robb after their liege execution to fulfill his wishes, kill Jaime, and start to "liberate" the riverlands, they too, plan to siege Storm's End and Dragonstone

You are pretty gloomy. And if it works, why not indeed? However how they played this little unimportant thing and how fart jokes work are a bit different.

10/10 best episode so far, as expected.

"The climb is all there is"

Littlefinger doesn't simply desire the 7 Kingdoms, but the entire world, as he has said many times in various ways. There is no "realm" , just chunks of earth to carve up on a map, and he wants it all.

    Ros
    !!

No more badly written scenes with her , taking time from the book scenes. I'd been wishing her a painful death for a long time, +1 to Joffrey.

Other than that, eh episode. What was going to be the highlight of the episode for me, Brienne, Jaime and Lord Bolton conversation was really bland. Of course, they still made Roose tell Jaime what he wanted and kept his motivations the same , but the dialogue was very underwhelming compared to the books.

I'm really disliking how they're handling Tormund and Ygritte as well.

Book Tormund is easly one of the most charismatic and awesome characters in the series, like, Tyrion level in awesomeness. Show Tormund is just a generic bland barbarian.

Ygritte was very charismatic as well, and the Jon/Ygr relationship grew pretty much organically. They didn't need forced cheesy romance in the book.

Nice episode, paves a entertaining, if very dialogue-focused, road to the destination of what I suspect to be the pinnacle of this season.
Bit disappointed to see Tyrion being superficially outsmarted by the lizard Cersei

but hey, it won't get better for him in this matter.

After a series of QoT just trouncing the supposed smart men, I would have been extremely furious if Tywin had lost too.
Which he did not, of course.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Only minor complain would be the torture-porn of "the guy who isn't Karstarks son" that took way too much time, although the acting was engrossing.

Portrayal fits fine to his book alter-ego as well.

His cold, focused face bars any emotional expression, yet he appears to have joy by watching the broken Jamie struggle to eat. His both dialogues with Jamie were alright, although not as awesome as in the books.

Please don't make Shae be "jealous" because of Sansa. Don't **** this up.

hmm did anyone notice what the fire priestess said to arya about the eyes she'll shut forever, namely brown, blue, and green don't those colours correspond to ilyn payne, cersei and joffrey?

The ending was too well done. Almost felt like an ending to a movie or the final episode of a TV show.
