Just looked at the video for the new cast members on YouTube.

The first half was pretty promising. Doran Martell, Trystane Martell, Mycella and Areo Hotah are all very fitting choices.

The second half is less promising. I don't really understand why one of the Sand Snakes is Asian but I suppose it won't make a difference in this PC world. The other Sand Snakes seem fine but I think we can expect some overacting from Tyene Sand. Jonathan Pryce seems to think that he's actually playing a character whose name is High Sparrow instead of the High Septon who, after a joke, is referred to as the High Sparrow. They appear to have caught him off guard in the video.

The worst is by far is Enzo Cilenti as Yezzan. I'm sure the guy is a great actor and all but how exactly is a character who is massively obese and is in such bad health that he constantly urinates on himself, earning him the nickname "The Yellow Whale", supposed to be playing effectively by a very skinny man who looks quite healthy?

Oberyon was sleeping around in Essos as well so why not? The idea of the sand snakes are half sisters all by different mothers who Oberyon all cared for.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

Nym was from a volantene mother which is essos which we know from show is basically all like modern new York. The actress is way too plain though. Tyene ican tell is just gonna be awful. Obaras not ugly enough.

to caveat off what he said, shes way to eager and you can tell this is one of her very first roles and shes gonna end up overacting it.

Also Dorne seems to be the perfect place to introduce some more mixed or darker characters, but really? an Asian sandsnake? where does it say anywhere in the book that the volantenes have slanted eyes? if that was the case shouldn't robb's wife have been asian as well? they don't even follow the continuity of thier own show much less the books.

To the first thing yeah. Also why the is tyene using daggers?

To the second like I said essos in show is basically just a mashup of everything, a modern metropolis.

There could be a part of essos where more Asiatic traits reside, it just wasn't mentioned.but they clearly shoehorned it into Volantis for some reason, which doesn't make any real sense. I have no problem with there being asians in the show, or any other race for that matter. I think its just pandering on the part of the showrunners though to get an asian in there somewhere.

Keep on topic. Discussing actors: Yes. Discussing racism/harassing people, NO.

Why not have an asian Sandsnake? Aren't they all supposes to be bastards anyways? Also, Cersei Baratheon-Lannister isn't from Volantis, she is from Castlirock.

One more thing, if Dorne or the Free Cities is supposed to be Spainish, then anyone should be able to play one convincingly. I know this cause a few years back while I was at an internet cafe playing WarCraft III, I raged at the "Korean" who beet me. Following said rage, he turned my chair around and informed me that he was in fact spanish.
Moral of the story: Never accuse any one of being any race, because they might be a Spaniard in disguise. And by extention: Hispanics make the best ninjas.

It has just occurred to me that the "Robb" you were talking about wasn't the "Robb" I inferred from.

If we are going to refer to characters on a first name or nickname basis, can we please only do that for knights and royalty (leaving out the rest of the nobility)? And for the record, Robert Stark doesn't count as royalty since he lost his war for independence (although every other character from Dorne still counts as royalty due to the way Dorne was integrated into the 7 Kingdoms which allowed that province to keep its titles).

Half the series' cast is called some variation of Bob, and if we are not to refer to only Kings and Knights by their first/nick names, then the only character whom should be called "Robb" (with two b's) is Robbin Baelish of The Vale. And last time I checked, Robb was not married.

    What's there not to get?

    1. "Rob" is a really common name. I can name 3 people in Game of Thrones named "Rob". Robert Stark, Robert Baratheon, and Robbin Baelish
    2. Cersei Baratheon, A.K.A "Rob's wife", does not come from Volantis (which is one of the Free Cities on Essos). She in fact comes from Castlirock, which is on the western coast of Westeros.
      1. Hence why she does not look Asian, while some people from Volantis may indeed look Asian.

    3. To elaborate on Mangalore's position: The more you get around, the probability of one of your children being asian approaches 1.
    4. As an alternative explanation to this outrage many of you are demonstrating, I am projecting my inability to tell asians and spainish-men apart onto the lot of you.

How can you judge an actress watching only 10 sec in a clip?Do you know her from some other work she did?

To be fair Volantis in the books definitely has some asian vibes to it with the man-pushed carts to transport people and the ubiquous elephants.
Although at my first reading i rather imagined some indian based city, it could be any south-eastern asian country, Thaïland especially.
