    off topic

what's that **** with Ramsay cutting the dick of, he can certainly do meter than that, he is not a savage, in the books it is implied he peeled of the skin, and waited for it to rot off.
Since George wrote that episode I think that was his way of putting the ambiguity to rest. The Answer is YES theon did get his ****** cut off. now there is no more "what if"

Danny´s story got ruined in my opinion, in the books you sort of empathize with her as she slowly decends into madness while she grows more powerful, all that is lost in the show. she was again changed to appeal to a modern audience simplifying her character.
I don't get where people claim Dany descends into madness. She is certainly no madder than 90% of the nobility we see who are all behaving like jerks and at least she has a basic morale compass even if she might have stumbled over it by chance. GRR Martin portrays most noblemen as selfish little pricks who do whatever the **** they like including murdering or torturing for fun.

I think it is implied in the books he skinned it, waited for it to rot so Theon begged him to cut it off. I'd think that'd be too cruel for the show.

Stannis is one of the biggest dicks
How is Stannis one of the biggest dicks if you've got guys like Theon, Ramsay, Frey, Bolton, Joffrey, early Jaime, Tywin, Cersei, Balon Greyjoy, Amory Lorch, Gregor Clegane , ...

I wouldn't say Stannis is one of the "biggest dicks" in the show, but they've definitely managed to make him less likeable than in the books.

The whole "Stannis is iron" thing kind of falls flat after you watch him beg Melisandre to have sex with him.....

Yeah my point exactly, he was not-so-nice in the books which means a very friendly and loving character by ADWD, but in the show he's a real pain in the ass.

I find him more annoying in the later books than in the start because of his fire god fetish. I kind of like the more self doubting character in the show better than the pretty arbritrary - but supposedly claims to be just - guy in the books. in the show he at least shows more reason why he is doubting.

Perhaps, but I'm sure he gets harder around Mel

Yeah, true. Guess that's perhaps Martin's intention, to show the downfall of (even a very tough) man when he's corrupted like that. Though I wouldn't call him doubting this seasen, he was pretty rash in all his decisions. Also I felt as if he didn't listen to Davos as much. And I remember in the series he didn't really want to burn Edric Storm either, which he obviously had no problem with in the series ("what's one bastard against a kingdom ?"). Stannis seems more power/throne-hungry in the series, that's what I dislike

That's the problem. They've made him unlikable and uncaring. In the books he's Just to a fault and is conflicted by Mel because of her power and how he can use her to win the war despite the fact he knows her methods are wrong.

He doesn't use Davos as much as the books where he is used as a reminder of his morality.

There's also hints hes using her and doesn't really believe

He imho displays more motivation why he thinks this stuff has to be done: He lost at the Blackwater, something Melisandre seemingly predicted if she isn't present and absent an army he desperately seeks alternatives and sees them in magic to counterbalance enemy numbers. He is desperate and he knows it, at least that's what I take from him angrily asking Davos what the alternatives supposed to be.
His resentments are kind of mirrored by Tywin who asks why it is more immorale to kill 10 people at dinner when it would cost tens of thousands of lives to end it with battle. With Tywin the motivation is that the longer the war goes on the greater the risk to his family, particularly since his battles all turned bad against Robb. With Stannis it's that he doesn't have any options left.
