C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\total war shogun 2\data
Open up sound.pack with pack file manager (get it from tool tuts and resources if you dont have it already.)
Extract the music section.
Listen to them and work out which pieces you want to replace which other pieces.
Copy the names of the pieces you want to replace. Rename the pieces you want to replace them with to have the same name.
Make a mod pack with the newly renamed files.
Hopefully this will make sense as you do it.

Ok i've tried creating a mod ,
changing the name of the custom mp3 and putting it into a new mod.
I've tried movie type packs and mod packs with the script.
Nothing works![]()

make another one, I do this often, and whenever I want to change the music sometimes when I make a new pack file it doesn't read it.
or, try to delete one song at random, for some reason, either changing the file or making an entirely new one seems to make it work for me...
Hi mitch,
can you explain what you mean, make 2 of the same mod?
delete the original mod i made and make a new one again ( tried that )
or make a new mod and keep the custom mp3 name?

You can keep the same name and put in all the same music for the new mod. put it in your data folder and run the game. if the music hasn't changed; log out of the game go to the mod in the data folder, open it, delete one mp3 or something, then run the game again.
If that doesn't work, make a new mod and overwrite the last one. shouldn't take more than four tries. wish I could give you a simpler method but that's the way I mod my music.
P.S. I'm not sure if there is a limit to the size (of data) of mod. make sure you only have the music your replacing in the file, don't put in the field musician folder (or whatever it's called).
also, make sure that every new mp3 has the EXACT SAME NAME as the original mp3 you want it to replace. if the new music has a different name than the song your trying to overwrite it won't work of course.
and yes make it a movie file

Can you upload the file so I can take a look? What are you overwriting?
Fots still uses tracks from the original campaign (that's actually all you here in the Fots Campaign until your clan reaches the second tier of modernization), so you might want to overwrite those...

Sure , I created just 1 to test it with , waited for the song I replaced it with but the old song still plays instead.

Just looked at it and immediately noticed 2 problems... you need a directory inside the pack file It should go;
Test_music.pack
---->music
---->boshin
---->"the forgotten"
not like this;
Test_music.pack
---->"the forgotten"
without the directory the game doesn't locate the music. It's pretty simple actually, instead of using the "add file" option when making the pack file, use "add directory" option and click on the folder containing the file and it'll build it for you.
and it was a mod file and not a movie file...try to use the movie file option when making music mod.
see the below fixed file...
Change those two things and it should work. if for some reason it doesn't play right then follow my previous instructions.

Thanks a lot , going to test it now.
I tried movie before and it didn't work so I switched back to mod, Im guessing the problem was the directory. How did you get music / boshin into the file ? pfm would only let me move the song.

Unfortunately this doesn't work either, all the sound goes in the game apart from the ambient nature sounds and the clash sound for automatch victory.

to mod the music with the boshin folder;
first, extract the original music folder with the songs you want to overwrite.
second, overwrite the files inside the folder.
third, make a new pack file using only the overwritten songs via the "add- directory" option. it'll make the folders in the correct directory itself (make sure you have the latest PFM 2.1.1 or you might have issues)
then save the file as a movie mod, place it in the data folder and play the game.
If it doesn't work properly then try remaking the file. sometimes you need to do that a couple of times to get one that works properly, but if you don't have the proper directory it will never work... also remember that the Boshin music has a couple of new songs in different patches that go somewhere between 15 to 21.
Oh thank goodness someone is trying this, fots needs some different music for me.
hmm... that's odd, I'm starting to get the same bug where only the battle intro plays. My only tip is to remake the file or to replace it, because that always worked for me before... I'll let you know if anything else comes up.
I hadn't tried to do a new music mod for Fots until today mainly because I like the new soundtrack, but this is odd.
