Default How to Post a Review, Rules, and General Info

    The Reviews Forum

Welcome to the Reviews forum! This is a section where you can post a thread highlighting your experiences with, well, anything that might be relevant. Games, products, media, if it's a review then you're in business.

Some guidelines for constructing a suitable review:
    • Submissions should have at least 4 - 5 paragraphs of substance
    • Submissions must be your own work, that is, this is not a forum to redirect to off site articles or videos. You can use them as references though!
    • Submissions should be thought out and explained, with effort in grammar, headings, etc, and attempting to give a balanced view of the positives and negatives involved. A thought out satire works too.
    • The title should be clear, ie, "Minecraft", not "That Game Where You Play With Blocks", "SomeReviewerDude's Ultra Epic Review Of Minecraft" and so forth.

This forum is a combination of Product Reviews, Game Reviews and The Arts Reviews. It may be archived in the future but right now it's open to use. Your posting could give it new life.

If you arrive here too late or would like suggestions there is also the Member Blogs forum in the writer's study and the CMS Blogs feature, just reach out if you're interested.

    Hoping for the best...

How to Post a Review, Rules, and General Info

If you're thinking about submitting a review take note of the following:

How to Write a Review & Rules:

    • Submissions must AT LEAST be 4 - 5 paragraphs in length
    • Submissions must be you're own work - no links to G4, Gamespot, IGN etc articles
    • Do not submit video reviews unless they're your own (and you can prove it)
    • Submissions should be well thought out and explained (use proper grammar, use headings, scores, etc)
    • Refrain from too much subjectivity - i.e. don't post a review whose sole purpose is to highlight and embellish just the negative OR just the positive aspects of a game
    • When you submit a review please title the thread appropriately (i.e. if you're writing a review for MineCraft call the thread "MineCraft", don't call it "That Game Where You Play with Blocks" or "So-and-Sos Super Awesome Review of MineCraft")

*Note* Any reviews from this point forward that DO NOT adhere to these rules will first be brought to the attention of the author who will
have his review closed until improvements or corrections have been made.
    General Information:

    • All old reviews and all new ones that fit the above criteria will be added to the "Directory" sticky for easy access by TWC members. If you're review is missing from this list contact an local moderator and the issue will be resolved
    • Some good tips for keeping readers interested: 1) use screenshots, trailers, gameplay videos, and other visual aids when necessary (no one likes looking at just a huge block of text) 2) score your reviews - while not an absolute necessity, a score really does help readers understand your overall impression with a game 3) Be interesting and creative - don't just sit down and ramble about shaders and HDR lighting for 5 paragraphs. Readers want to know what's great about the game, what's lacking, and what's bad about it. Talk about the gameplay (and specifics of it), the graphics, the multiplayer, the story, etc. 4) It's mentioned above but for the love of God use proper grammar, punctuation, and structure. It's incredibly hard to read a review consisting of 7 paragraphs, 3 periods, and 182 misspellings. 5) Edit. When you're done writing your review scan over it a couple more times to make sure you've mentioned everything you want, didn't make any grammatical mistakes, etc 6) Feel free to update - maybe a game that you wrote a review on suddenly stopped having that "new game smell" and you realize you over-looked a few things. Feel free to come back and update your review.
    • DON'T BE AFRAID TO REVIEW A GAME THAT'S ALREADY BEEN DONE. Chances are that someone interested in purchasing a new game wants to see more than one person's opinion of it.
    • Please use the review thread for discussion of the review. Detailed discussion of the game itself should be done in the game's thread/forum.

If you have any questions regarding Game Reviews, feel free to contact a site moderator or administrator (you can find them on the Staff list).
