    Default Proposal: Gifted people

People have been talking about the need to implement a system reflecting skilled people for some time. I seem to remember we eventually decided on rolls at birth to determine whether a person is "skilled" but nothing was done. So I'm making this thread to suggest an idea of my own, and also to generate discussion to see if a better solution can be found.

So, if my idea is implemented, whenever a child is born, there will be a few extra rolls to see if they are skilled, what they are skilled in, and how skilled they are.

    Roll 1: Skilled or not?

After all rolls have been done to determine that the child will live, this roll takes place, using a d20.

    1-2: skilled in three areas
    3-6 skilled in two areas
    7-12: skilled in one area
    13-20: not skilled

    Roll 2: Skill areas

A d20 is then rolled for each skill area they get in the first roll to see what they are skilled in.

    Physical (roll 1-5):

    Duels
    Jousting
    Archery
    Unarmed
    Birth

    Intelligence (roll 6-10):

    Assassinations
    Seige Battles
    Income
    Land Battles
    Sea Captain

    Charisma (roll 11-15):

    Denouncer
    Devote member of the Faith
    Loyalty
    Pillage

    Misc. (roll 16-20):

    Capture
    Survival
    Smith
    Fate
    Escape

The player may then choose one skill from each category in which they recieved a roll. A player may NOT choose the same skill twice - if the same skill area is rolled twice or more, a player must choose that number of skills from within that area.

    Roll 3: Level of skill

For each skill decided upon, roll a d20 to determine how skilled that person will be in that area.

    1-4: +3
    5-12: +2
    13-20: +1

Again, this is very much open to suggestions and changes.

I dont like it, this would force us to rewrite our characters if they are not skilled or skilled in the wrong area. And if our current guys are just all unskilled than the next generation of guys will be way more powerful. So Nay.

But if this did pass I think we should break the skills up into a few categories, and you roll to see which category they are skilled in and than you pick which skill in said category you want them to be skilled in.

    Agreed. For example...

    Militaristic (Duels, Field Battles, Archery)

    Intellectual (Income, Escape, Assassinations, etc)

    Just an idea.

The mods have already said any skill system implemented would only affect those born from its implementation onwards, not characters already created.

    So maybe...

    Physical (roll 1-5)

    Duels
    Jousting
    Archery
    Unarmed
    Birth

    Intelligence (roll 6-10)

    Assassinations
    Seige Battles
    Income
    Land Battles
    Sea Captain

    Charisma (roll 11-15)

    Denouncer
    Devote member of the Faith
    Loyalty
    Pillage

    Misc. (roll 16-20)

    Capture
    Survival
    Smith
    Fate
    Escape

For roll 2, which would allow you multiple skills per area if, say, you rolled a 1 then a 4? Would need other players to support it though.

Add Income to Charisma (as being a suave talker, like merchants can make you rich)

Or leave as Intell could be either imo

    Edit:

For Misc, maybe 16-19, and if you are lucky enough to get a 20, you can pick which category.

Also, I think +4 is too much. +3 should be max for birth skill.

    For 2nd roll,

    Like 1-10 = 1, 11-16 = 2, 17-20 = 3? Roll chances slowly decreases per skill level up.

Survival should be in both Misc and Physical as it could be both.

But then there is a much higher chance of getting survival, I want to have as equal chance for each skill as possible.

However that would reduce the chances of getting misc skills compared to others, and as stated previously I want to keep the chances equal if possible.

It goes up to +5 at the moment But yeah, things like that are absolutely up for debate and finetuning, I do feel that going up to +4 and +5 may be too much combined with say, a VS sword and many skill points anyway, you could get a guy with +15 duels or something, which would be ridiculous.

Something like that, but I wouldn't want such a large chance of a basically pointless +1.

No +1 would be pointless Any little bit helps.

I was looking through, support but please remember that all rolls are to be constructed on the basis that a natural 1 passes and a natural 20 fails.

Upon further inspection & thought I'd agree that this is a good idea, actually. I take it that the vote tally currently stands at:

    Aye: 6
    Nay: 0

Assuming this passes, can't see next 6 votes being nay, but if it does pass, feel free to roll my two births (in the year 299 thread) after it passes

Updated to reflect that and the skill areas - can be implemented as long as the mods are ok with it.

Alright, I'm good to implement it. Also, if it hasn't already said so that we don't end up with very long threads I think the roll request thread will be the thread for the current year that is happening.

No, because that would clog the thread up with Death rolls, birth rolls and the like, we need a thread so. The mods can see who they are rolling for without scrolling through loads of "oh noes I died" comments
