Who Should Sit the Iron Throne? (ADWD spoiler)

Am I the only one who thinks Tywin Lannister would make a good king of Westeros?

I know he's not the nicest guy out there but he's intelligent, rich and ruthless which as has been said before by others in this thread is what is needed to be a successful king in Westeros.

Stannis Baratheon would rule in a similar way to Tywin in my opinion but probably with more honour which would also make him similar to Ned Stark.

I agree that Stannis is the true heir. It doesn't matter what went on before with the Targaryen's as House Baratheon is now the ruling House so Stannis should rule.

I fear for Westeros, bacause Martin just unleashed the most terrifying scourge upon that poor land, that is of course, Cercei Lannister ........poor kevan's death was as sad to me as Ned and Rob ones . Until the end of ADWD i didn't thougth that there could be any more chaos, but Martin never fails to surprise you.

As for the Iron Throne, Stannis has the will to bring order to the land, assuming he can defeat the Boltons, take control of whatever is happening at the wall, subjugate the ironborn, put an end to the schemes of Littlefinger, extermitate the brotherhood of hangers at the riverlands, defeat Agon; return the Lannister, Tyrells and Martells to obedience; end with Varys and his birds, deal with the church fanatics, face Daenerys ( if she ever manges to get out of Essos) and........last but not least, exterminate the others. .

Obviosly no a problem to the rigthfull King.

I hope that Stannis survives, I can see what Stannis's plan is and I can't see how he could lose. He probably will die though.


I had a theory about that letter actually well the story behind it. They send out the Manderly's and Frey's right to fight him? Well they get out the gates and ride off then Manderly pulls a betrayal and cuts the frey's down, links up with Stannis and gets him to hand over the magic sword for a bit and then get their hands on a random head (They've done the good ol' switcherro before in white harbour) and go back and say they killed him but lost the frey's, got a beat up head and the sword so the Boltons believe them(They've never seen Stannis before, have they?) and we know his army isn't large enough for a SEVEN Day battle so maybe that's a little poetic lie from a manderly?This would explain why he hasn't got blood or skin to go with the letter and inconsistences like the lack of "Arya" at the camp - the manderly's said they weren't there. Bolton's believe the lie and tell their "Bannermen" to go home then Stannis show's up and ambushes them, getting his sword back and winning the north.

I PERSONALLY THINK THIS IS UNLIKELY, but it's a nice idea...

It's a nice idea but it would never work beacuse i don't believe that Stannis would give Lightbringer in hands of a man who he believes killed his Hand and best(probably only) friend. I don't see how Manderly will convince Stannis of his good intentions other than to present him with Davos.
Also Roose would see through "All Freys all died in battle, but we somehow survived".

Daenery's will pull through I believe and I am pretty sure the Ramsay Snow ( he will never not be a bastard in my eyes) is desperate and trying to trick the nights watch into thinking they supported the wrong side.

Sorry don't know what happened there... I pray to the Drowned god, the Red god and the gods old and new that Daenerys doesn't get the Throne, she's one of the worst candidates on a power trip because of some Dragons which make everything else redundant and she only has them through Luck. Stannis is the right choice but unlikely to win, Aegon is a good chocie but I reckon he's a dud or something will happen, he might be a head of the dragon with Jon but I doubt that too. Sir Doubtalot the first of his doubter, lord of Doubterville, and the doubtful men. It can go anyway except for Baelish. Good.

Excluding people who are dead (and that's like half the list), the best choice is Stannis. His sense of justice may be harsh, but at least he has one.

Dark horse: Tyrion Lannister, with a consumated marriage to Sansa Stark, re-uniting Westeros in peace.


Of course, there will be nothing left of Westeros but a desolate wasteland by the time we're down to last man standing , but someone's gotta rule it, right?

Personally, I like Stannis for it (Totally breaking from the pack here, I know), but I do think Daenyrs would make a good Queen to Stannis. This would be an excellent way to cement the love of the people, assuming the hints that the people really do want a targ on the throne are true, and while she is naive and occasionally acts insane, having stannis as her husband (and co-ruler) modulates that-and giving stannis her Dragons to play around with might very well make him unstoppable. Additionally, Daenyrs has the personality to be a kind of...moral guide?...for stannis. Daenyrs being barren (or is she?) and Stannis having a previous marriage (assuming his wife doesent kick the bucket eventually) are problems, but not insurmountable ones.

I could foresee Daenyrs ruling after Stannis kicks it ala Elizabeth Tudor as a virgin queen. That, plus her dragons, should keep her on the throne despite her womenhood. Any succession problem aside, the most important thing for the kingdom is to have a ruler who can keep it together over the coming winter/zombie apocalypse. And Stannis does have a daughter by his previous marriage in any case, so....

Also, as for the succession, if Daenyrs is barren she can probably still keep the throne for a while after Stannis kicks it, simply by pulling a Elizabeth tudor "Virgin Queen" ploy and using marriage as a kind of threat to keep the various factions at odds with each other. and even if Daenyrs is barren (to the degree that freaking magic cant fix it) Stannis already has a daughter.

As for everyone else, they are far to evil/crazy or hilariously inept for various reasons. I consider Daenyrs+stannis to be the best way to get a just and competent ruler-ship onto the throne. plus, in my mind, their personalities perfectly balance each other out.

If he is who we think he is he is going to be very difficult to remove from power and I can not imagine anyone rebelling successfuly if he is their enemy.

That by the way was a pointless bit of crap to keep this post on topic while I put in this.
Ser Osney Kettleback is getting executed by the High Septon for murdering his predecessor.
Both Ser Osmund Kettleback and Ser Osfryd Kettleback will be sent to the Wall if they confess their crimes or face Robert Strong if they do not.

I think Osmund and Osfryd fighting Robert Strong together while Osney watches will be a likely outcome and them both being butchered would be a way to show how powerful the new Kingsguard member is.

If that is is the next book then it is a chapter I am really looking forward to

If you could have your choice of any apparent and major character in the Books, who would you prefer to see on the Iron Throne?

Personally I think Renly would've made a great king. He knew how to have fun, how to make friends, how to behave at court, and how to live in the Red Keep. But also, Robb as King in the North, and essentially that is what Renly proposes in the Series. And he certainly know's how to surround himself with good men, Loras, Randyll Tarly, Mace, and Garlan Tyrell, and the storm lord's.

I definitely think it would've been interesting to see where Renly and Robb would've gone. Cheers
